NEW: A group of Good Samaritans save a driver in Minnesota from his burning car after he got in a crash on the I-94 highway.

The driver was stuck in the burning vehicle and couldn't get out.

The group who pulled him out said they were getting hit in the face by the scorching flames as the car door was being blocked by the guard rail.

A highway worker smashed the window open allowing the group to pull the man out of the car, saving his life.

The driver reportedly avoided serious injury and was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

Just read about the incredible act of heroism on I-94 highway in Minnesota! A group of strangers risking their lives to save someone trapped in a burning car is the kind of news we all need right now. It's heartening to see people coming together in moments of crisis. Kudos to the highway worker for their quick thinking and bravery. Wishing the driver a speedy recovery.

Same as when the I-35 bridge went into the river: brave Minnesotans stopped and helped.

And that's why I love the Midwest: it's still full of brave men and women who have the knowledge and ability to stabilize a very bad scene.

Great story! I follow an account on Instagram named @menbeingheroes that is full of great stories of men being real men. It’s a great antidote to the pansy soy boys.
and yer just now telling me of this resource :: pouts ::
- Momma needs a ray o' hope, too!

Americans being Americans- that wasn't just men, but we all know how darn terrifying vehicle fires are- and how dangerous that situation was.

I tell sweet boy his first and most important job is to come home safely; but maybe some things ARE worth dying for, and that might be one o' em.

Here's the story from the (Red)Star Trib. Not fleshed out very much from the twitter post.

Good Samaritans rescue driver from fiery I-94 crash in St. Paul

No injuries were reported in the wreck, though the driver was taken to Regions Hospital for evaluation.

Good Samaritans and at least one state worker helped rescue a driver from a burning vehicle on Interstate 94 in St. Paul last week.

Video of the incident making the rounds on social media Sunday shows several motorists and a state Department of Transportation worker stop on the shoulder of the highway on Thursday evening, run to a burning Honda and attempt to open the vehicle's doors to save the driver.

The SUV had drifted off the road to the right and struck a light pole, then a guardrail, catching fire near the Snelling exit on I-94 around 6:30 p.m., said State Patrol spokesperson Lt. Jill Frankfurth.

A Minnesota Department of Transportation worker broke the burning SUV's window, Frankfurth said. That allowed the group to pull the driver out feet-first, the video shows. Fox 9 identified video as being taken by Kadir Tolla.

The driver was taken to Regions Hospital for evaluation, but no injuries were reported, Frankfurth said.

This is what normal, decent Minnesotans do. Same reason we don't carry tow straps and jumper cables for only our own benefit. Living 5-6 months of the year in weather that can easily kill when sheet goes sideways, it gives a little different outlook.

Yup we give MN NICE a bad rap, deservedly so in many respects, but in many ways it does seem true that the best of who we were survives the strongest in those Midwest populations.

must be something in the water afterall, eh? those coasts are toxic

I didn't notice until last night, but here is the Fox 9 story and interview video with one of the first guys who stopped to help. The video has to be viewed on their website. Here's the link with the video including the footage from this guy's car cam:

Good Samaritan helps pull driver from fiery crash on I-94

ST. PAUL, Minn. (FOX 9) - Kadir Tolla says he was on his way to visit a couple of clients in St. Paul when he came across a crash, moments after it happened.

"I saw a car on fire. Then I said somebody is probably in there," Tolla told FOX 9.

The Minnesota State Patrol says a Honda ran off the road on I-94 near Snelling Avenue, hit a light pole and burst into flames around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Tolla was one of several Good Samaritans who pulled over and ran to help.

"That could be me one day. What would happen if I was in that situation and my life was in the hands of strangers that I don't even know," said Tolla.

Tolla says the bystanders tried frantically to get the driver out.

"He was awake. He was saying pull me out, pull me out, pull me out," said Tolla.

But the door was blocked by the guardrail.

"We could crack the door a bit and give him a little air," said Tolla.

Meanwhile, the fire kept inching closer and closer.

"It was actually smacking us on our face but we just jumped back," said Tolla.

At one point, Tolla grabbed a piece of plastic from the side of the road and tried to break the window, to no avail.

Eventually a highway helper smashed the glass and the bystanders were able to pull the man to safety, just in time.

"Right when we got him out, the fire started going inside the car from the driver's side. I'm glad he got out in time," said Tolla.

Tolla says it wasn't until later he realized the cameras on his car had captured the entire experience.

He is grateful he was able to lend a helping hand to someone in need.

"It was just like the scariest moment of my life. This is something that I'll never forget. I will always remember this," said Tolla.

The state patrol says the driver did not have any serious injuries but paramedics took him to Regions Hospital to be evaluated.

The crash also started a small grass fire which firefighters were able to quickly put out.

My friend was on that bridge stranded with an autistic daughter. She of course had the some praise for fellow minnesotans.
