I have a weird problem with the transmission in my 2002 Expedition.
When it is hot(weather/primarily summer months) it will not go in reverse.
When it is cold (60 degrees or colder) it will click in just fine.
It shifts and runs fine (forward)

It is the original transmission.(230,000 miles)
The car still runs strong. You would never know that it has that many miles on it.

The transmission has never been touched or serviced.

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

Looks like its time for service and the trick is to get to someone that can fix it.

DO NOT attempt to flush the fluid !! With that many miles it could cause real problems in the trans. I would take it to a local AAMCO. Most will do a free diagnostic. Could be the temp sensor in the valve body.

defiantly time for a service, filter and oil change, it could be the filter getting plugged up, (had a car that my MIL stooped driving that had a plugged up filter and was not shifting correctly), but most likely there is more of a problem. (plugged filters drop oil pressure and caused the friction disks to slip and less lubrication) you should be able to do a search and find a trouble shooting check list, for that transmission and see what type of things cause that problem. (my experience is that most automatic transmissions have seen better days with that kind of mileage, and are in need of a rebuild),
(had a old FMX transmission that would do the same and it was in the valve body one of the parts were sticking in it),

FOLLOW THE RECOMMENDED SERVICE SUGGESTIONS IN THE MANUAL, Oil changes, transmission service, belts and hoses, etc,
