Again, not the best week for prep sales. Somebody better put canned veggies on sale soon or my list is really going to be out of whack. Anyway, for this week...

WALGREENS-
celebrity ham, 1 lb-2.00 each---2/4.00
15 oz canned salmon-1.00 each w/in ad coup---3/3.00
royal jello--5/1.00 w/in ad coupon---5/1.00

HITCHCOCKS--
Ragu-.99 each---3/2.97

PUBLIX--
ronzoni pasta--buy1/get1 free, 2/.97----4/1.94
lipton tea bags (100 ct)--buy 1/get 1 free--2/3.41
3 ramen---3/.45

ALBERTSONS--
Bush's chili--buy 1/get 1 free + $1 coupon---2/2.19
24 oz White House applesauce-$1 ea + .35/1 coup---2/1.30

TOTAL--$20.26

March is right around the corner, and a lot of us on this board seem to be somewhat worried about what March will have in store. I urge everyone to make sure their food preps are up to snuff.

So what did you guys find this week?

Yes, I agree. This thread is an inspiration to DO something.
I can see that $20 a week would really make a difference.
Thanks! I'm going to go shopping and see what is findable.

not much, but a start. I had so much before Y2k, I was afraid the floors would cave in. Then moving 3,000 miles, I sold it all for about half what I paid. I feel reluctant to sink every spare dime into cans again,... but a few weeks supply in hurricaneland isn't a bad idea. Looking at the list above, 20 dollars a week isn't going to amount to much.

How did food get so expensive? saw a can of asparagus for almost 4 dollars.

I do buy 'panic food' like Raisonettes etc, and we end up eating it all.

Though it doesn't really pertain to the 20. a week shopping, we snared some salmon at 10 for 10.00, some chili without beans, 10 for 10.00, chili with beans 10 for 10, at Krogers sale. Though the chili from a can isn't something we usually eat, it would come in handy for the right situation. Ugh. ;)

It slowly dawned on me over the past 2 or 3 days that we have no "name-brand" grocery stores here. We have Country Mart, which i guess is a chain in this state, maybe. There's so little variation in price there though. Besides that, we have Wal-Mart, and it's not very cheap. I do most of my grocery shopping at the post commissary (i'm so thankful to have that benefit!) . . . Unless i drive up to Oklahoma City though, there is virtually little choice. It's frustrating.

Tonight tho', i did buy some dried fruit at Wal-Mart for .98-1.28. Got a half dozen packages and squirrelled them away.

Shop and Save has 3# bags of frozen, boneless chicken breasts 5/$20. I finally got mine tonight. They can't keep them in stock even though they have a 5 bag limit! They also have their store brand of canned veggies for .30 each. Peter Pan peanut butter 2/$2.19 or something close to that. Lots of goodies this week. That's the first time in a long time that I've gotten this much at once!

If you put the chili over buttered mashed potatoes it's not so bad! It ususlly has too much chili powder or something, so it's better mixed with something else!

Thanks a lot Dinghy. You are just an amazing wealth of good ideas. It doesn't sound half bad that way. I just couldn't pass it up since the kind without beans is a lot of meat for that price. Thanks again.

Our Albertson's has Campbell's Chunky Soups 10 for $10.00, so I bought 20 cans! There are a lot more varieties available than for the store brand chunky soups I usually buy for preps.

Unfortunately, my 3 teenagers have discovered this latest addition to the prep stash... I may have to go back for 20 more cans before the deal ends this Thursday!

Your welcome!! Just little tidbits that I picked up through the years of having to pinch pennies!!;) I'll buy lots of stuff on clearance that I know I'm going to have to doctor up, but it's nice to have the convenience of ready made sometimes. Doctoring is a lot less work than making from scratch, and at those prices, a lot cheaper too!

Chicken was the loss leader in the Houston area this week, till Tue, anyway. Brookshires had leg quarters for .25 lb, Food Fair has fryers for .49 lb.

20 lbs of leg quarters & 6 fryers equals 4 hrs work with the canner.
