'03 Ford Explorer.. trouble starting after sitting a day pr so.

This problem didn't start until about a week after the mechanic installed (here's where I don't remember what it's called) intake valve cover?...something to do with the intake, which may have nothing to do with the problem now. The motor turns over fine but it takes 2 or 3 tries before it starts. It's not the battery or oxygen sensor so does anyone have an idea what the heck it could be?
And yes, I'm a old female that doesn't have a clue what's under that hood.
BTW...it starts fine all day, going anwhere, it's just after it sits a day or so that it's hard to start.

Probably changed the intake manifold. I am assuming yours is a 4.0 L engine. If so when installing the new manifold he may have messed up one or more of the fuel injectors or left a sensor partially unplugged.

If a 4.0 L engine is a 4 cylinder then that must be what mine is since it is a 4 cylender.
thanks for the reply...your conclusion is probably right since it started acting up after the intake thing was done and it never did that before. I'll call him and tell him to come get it and check it out.
Thanks you.

Do you hear the fuel pump run for a couple of seconds when you turn the key on? There may be a problem with your fuel pump relay. I have a cutlass they did the same thing. I had to crank the engine a long time in the morning. After that it would start ok unless it sat all day to work. It was an easy fix and cost less than $10.00 for a new relay.

The intake thing I couldn't remember was the intake gasket...that's what the mechanic replaced.
But no, Ididn't hear the fuel pump run when I turned the key on. He checked the pressure and it was 65. It had him bumfuzzled so he replaced the new intake gasket with another new intake gasket and that ended the problem, even though the one he replaced wasn't leaking air or whatever it leaks ( I'm really stupid about this stuff so I can't remember parts names and what they do). but anyway, it's fixed and he didn't charge me anything since it was something that he had already done and got paid for that didn't work.

Thanks Big Bob, I'll remember to listen for the fuel pump if any thing like this happens again.
