Iran's Arsenal Of Sunburn Missiles Is More Than Enough To Close The Strait

Read more: http://www.wallstreetexaminer.com/blogs/winter/?p=4519#ixzz1m2QPthxC

Any good armchair general with a good search engine and time on their hands can figure out in a hurry that the song and dance about Iran being unable to close the Strait if Hormuz for long is just a plain crock. Worse than a crock. Yet, this big Orwellian lie persists, so once again I have to set the record straight. Iran has the capability of not only closing the Strait for some time, but creating a world of hurt for the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet.

Iran possesses a build up of anti-ship weapons called Sunburn missiles, which it has procured from Russia and China over the last decade. These are top-notch weapons developed by the Russians as a low-cost challenge to the expensive, tech-heavy weaponry of the U.S., and specifically the aircraft carrier task force. A conflict, which I now assign a high probability to [see Scenario for an Israel Attack on Iran], is going to be a huge test of a global-naval doctrine that Russia and China will watch with tremendous interest. That’s why I think they have armed Iran to the teeth. The big question: How many of these weapons does Iran have? I would suggest thousands, and that this is the real show.

Given that U.S. crony logic seems to be about squandering money on weapons in the military-industrial complex, I fear for young sailors and marines on the 5th Fleet. Don’t get me wrong, the US Navy is professional, but the Strait doesn’t allow for the normal defense in depth available in open seas, in fact it offers the Iranians a cross fire setup or triangulation (see map of Strait below) . If you read discussions on various military sites, there is a lively debate on American ship defense system like the Aegis. However, almost nobody claims this to be fully protective against ship strikes. And an oil tanker, no way. It is important that the US is working on new generation lasar defense to counter these missiles, however they are still in development. This puts added pressure for Iran to have this fight now, not later. The following is from ”Russian Military Equality Network. (I have cleaned up the English a bit]

U.S. Navy Pacific Commander Admiral Timothy Keating said that due to lack of sufficient funds for the procurement of simulated target missile defense system, the U.S. Navy can not now afford to fight “the club” category of supersonic anti-ship missiles. It is reported that the U.S. military that is used to simulate the “club” missile target missile is still being developed, and is expected to be put into use in 2014.

The Sunburn is perhaps the most lethal anti-ship missile in the world, designed to fly as low as 9 feet above ground/water at more than 1,500 miles per hour (mach 2+). The missile uses a violent pop-up maneuver for its terminal approach to throw off Phalanx and other U.S. anti-missile defense systems. Given their low cost, they’re perfectly suited for close quarter naval conflict in the bathtub-like Persian Gulf.

The Sunburn is versatile, and can be fired from practically any platform, including just a flat bed truck. It has a 90-mile range, which is all that is necessary in the small Persian Gulf and 40-mile-wide Strait of Hormuz. Fired from shore a missile could hit a ship in the Strait in less than a minute. It presents a real threat to the U.S. Navy. Tests using the Aegean and RAM ship defense technology stops the Sunburn 95% of the time, but such testing was done in open seas, not a bathtub. The payload hit with a 750-pound conventional warhead can be witnessed at 1:53-1:57 in this video. Not enough to sink a carrier, but it could take down smaller capital ships and crew.

You don’t have to be Hannibal preparing for the Battle of Cannae to see that the Strait is a potential shooting gallery. Without a doubt, Iran has plotted and mapped every firing angle and location along the Gulf, their home-court coastline. This is going to put enormous interdiction pressure on U.S. warplanes to spot and destroy platforms, which may be as simple as a flat-bed truck. In reality, Iran has dug in from Jask in the east to Bandar in the west and can easily cover any ship, commercial or military, traversing the narrow Strait.

Equally disturbing is Iran’s missile range for the entire Persian Gulf. Bahrain itself could be hit by the longer-range version of the Sunburn, the Onyx. Is the U.S. (which has three aircraft carrier groups in play currently) going to stick around or clear out to the Oman Sea, leaving control of the oil lanes to Iran? Or will they stay and slug it out with the Iranians? If so, at what cost? Iran’s strategic advantage may mean some losses for the 5th Fleet, if this gets played out on Iran’s home court.

Iran will soon reveal "very big new achievements" in its controversial nuclear programme, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has announced.

Speaking at a rally in Tehran to mark the 33rd anniversary of the Islamic revolution, Ahmadinejad also said Iran would never give up its uranium enrichment progamme.

"In the coming days the world will witness Iran's announcement of its very important and very major nuclear achievements," Ahmadinejad told a crowd at Tehran's Azadi [Freedom] Square broadcast on state television.

Tens of thousands of Iranians joined state-organised rallies across the country to mark the anniversary of the overthrow of Shah, who was largely reviled as a US puppet by his opponents.

The US and its allies suspect Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons, while Iran insists its programme has only peaceful purposes.

The Islamic Republic has said it is forced to manufacture nuclear fuel rods, which provide fuel for reactors, on its own since international sanctions ban it from buying them on foreign markets.

Tensions over Iran's nuclear ambitions have risen sharply in recent weeks amid expectations of a military strike by Israel.

Earlier this week, US president Barack Obama ordered the freezing of Iranian government assets, including transactions by the Iranian Central Bank, in tightened sanctions over Tehran's nuclear programme.

As it marks Islamic revolution,
Iran touts major new nuclear projects

Agence France-Presse
Feb 11, 2012
http://www.thenational.ae/news/worl...olution-iran-touts-major-new-nuclear-projects

TEHRAN // A defiant Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad vowed Saturday to inaugurate "important nuclear projects" within days and lashed out at Israel, saying the "story" of the Holocaust underpinning its existence had been "smashed".

In a speech marking the anniversary of Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution, Ahmadinejad said his nation will "never yield" to Western sanctions and threats of military action from Israel and the United States.

A crowd of an estimated 30,000 people in central Tehran cheered Ahmadinejad's words. Many held aloft placards declaring "Death to America" and "Death to Israel".

In pointed messages aimed at those two arch-foes, Iranian officials planted a full-scale model of a US spy drone captured in December in front of the president's stage, and hosted on the stage the Hamas prime minister of Gaza.

Hamas "will never recognise Israel," Gaza leader Ismail Haniya told the crowd just before Ahmadinejad spoke.

His remarks were likely to complicate efforts to form with rival party Fatah a Palestinian unity government in the face of strong opposition from the Jewish state, which views Hamas as a terrorist organisation armed by Iran.

Ahmadinejad gave no details about the "important nuclear projects" about to be made public.

However, the UN nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has already said Iran is enriching uranium to 20 percent -- a level significantly closer to military-grade 90 percent purity -- at a mountain bunker near the Shiite shrine city of Qoms.

And Iranian officials have said that they will be inserting their first domestically made 20-percent enriched fuel plate into a Tehran research reactor by March.

Both developments have unsettled the West and Israel, which suspect Iran is pursuing research into nuclear weapons despite its repeated denials.

An IAEA report in November said there was evidence of activities in Iran that relate to a militarised nuclear programme.

The United States and the European Union have ratcheted up economic sanctions on Iran to an unprecedented level to try to force it to halt the uranium enrichment and to re-engage in long-stalled talks.

Israel, voicing concerns that Iran could shield its nuclear programme from attack by the end of this year, has made comments suggesting it could imminently launch air strikes against its long-time enemy. The United States has also not ruled out military action.

But Ahmadinejad rejected the pressure, saying that, "if the language of bullying and insult is used, the Iranian nation will never yield."

He added: "The only path is to adhere to justice and the respect of Iran's (nuclear) rights and to return to the negotiating table."

Iran has said several times in recent months that it is ready to resume talks on its nuclear programme with world powers that collapsed a year ago.

But up to now it has failed to respond to a letter by EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton formally offering to return to those talks as long as Iran imposes no preconditions.

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, in comments carried by media on Saturday, said his country's chief nuclear negotiator, Saeed Jalili, had written a reply to Ashton that "either has been sent or is on the verge of being sent."

He voiced optimism that another round of talks with Britain, France, Germany, the United States, Russia and China would begin "soon".

"They have some questions and ambiguities and we will try to answer these questions and ambiguities," he was quoted as saying.

Ahmadinejad used his speech to again question the veracity of the Jewish Holocaust, which he has in the past dimissed as a "myth".

He claimed the United States and the West had created "a story called the Holocaust" to create the Israeli state as part of a plan "to dominate the world".

But, he said, "the Iranian nation with courage and wisdom smashed this idol to free the people of the West (of its hold)."

Iran denies Israel's right to exist and has said it will back any group trying to put an end to the Jewish state.

Iran's anniversary commemorations marked the day 33 years ago that a revolution led by clerics, students and dissidents overthrew the US-backed shah and installed an Islamic theocracy.

The United States cut off all diplomatic relations with Iran in 1980, after Islamic students stormed the US embassy in Tehran in November 1979 and took 52 Americans inside hostage for 444 days.

The US drone replica on display in Tehran was that of an unmanned stealth aircraft, a bat-winged RQ-170 Sentinel, which Iranian officials said they brought down by hacking its flight controls as it overflew their territory in December on a surveillance mission.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made the announcement at a rally in Tehran
(CNN) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced Saturday that the nation will reveal "several major achievements in the nuclear domain" within days, state media reported.

Ahmadinejad did not offer details during his announcement at a rally to mark the 33rd anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.

But he slammed "hegemonic powers," accusing them of pressuring the nation on the nuclear front.

In the near future, Iran's nuclear demands will be met by the nation's scientists, Ahmadinejad said at the Tehran event broadcast on Press TV

"Today you see that the Iranian nation has become nuclear and can supply many of its demands," he said. "And God willing, in next few days, the whole world will witness the inauguration of several major achievements in the nuclear domain.

The news comes amid heightened tension between Iran and the West over its nuclear program.

The West believes Tehran may be trying to develop nuclear weapons, but Iran has long maintained that its nuclear program is solely for civilian energy production.

Tensions hit a boiling point weeks ago when Iran conducted military exercises in the Persian Gulf after threatening to close the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping lane for oil.

Iran's threat followed tough sanctions from Western nations aimed at stopping its suspected nuclear weapons program.

TEHRAN - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Saturday the Islamic Republic would soon announce "very important" achievements in the nuclear field, state TV reported.

He was speaking on the 33rd anniversary of the Islamic revolution. Tens of thousands of Iranians joined state-organized rallies across the country to mark the occasion.

"In the coming days the world will witness Iran's announcement of its very important and very major nuclear achievements," Ahmadinejad told a crowd at Tehran's Azadi (Freedom) Square in a speech relayed live on state television. He gave no details.

Demonstrators carrying Iranian flags and pictures of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei chanted "Death to Israel" and "Death to America."

Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, who arrived in Iran on Friday for three-day trip, also spoke at the ceremony. Haniyeh vowed that the Hamas movement will never recognize the State of Israel and will continue its resistance until all Palestinian lands are liberated.

On Friday, Iran pledged to back Palestinian resistance against Israel, saying "soon the Zionist regime will be punished for its plots and aggression," AFP reported Iran's first vice-president Mohammad Reza Rahimi as saying to Haniyeh.

"Iran will not retreat one iota from its position on defending the rights of the Palestinian people," AFP quoted Rahimi as saying.

The Iranian people are celebrating the 33rd anniversary of the Islamic revolution with mass rallies in cities around the country.

The biggest was in Tehran, where President Ahmedinejad told the huge crowd in Azadi square that in the coming days they and the world would hear some “very important and very major announcements of nuclear achievements.”

However, the president may be heading for trouble. He has been summoned to parliament to answer a list of questions on his economic policy, and the rift that has appeared in his relationship with the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei. He is the first Iranian president to be hauled before the legislature in this way since the 1979 revolution.

He must appear within the next month, which means he could answer the questions after the March 2 parliamentary elections, the first national poll since his disputed re-election in 2009.

Saudia Arabia to ‘buy’ nukes if Iran tests A-bomb

By: The Nation Monitoring | February 11, 2012 | 0
Share
LONDON - Saudia Arabia would move quickly to acquire nuclear weapons if Iran successfully tests an atomic bomb.Citing an unidentified Saudi Arabian source, the Times newspaper in the UK (which operates behind a paywall) said that the kingdom would seek to buy ready-made warheads and also begin its own programme to enrich weapons-grade uranium. The paper suggested that Pakistan was the country most likely to supply Saudi Arabia with weapons, saying Western officials were convinced there was an understanding between the countries to do so if the security situation in the Persian Gulf gets worse. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have denied such an arrangement exists. The Times described its source for the story as a ‘senior Saudi’, but gave no other details. “There is no intention currently to pursue a unilateral military nuclear programme, but the dynamics will change immediately if the Iranians develop their own nuclear capability,” the source told the newspaper. “Politically, it would be completely unacceptable to have Iran with a nuclear capability and not the kingdom.”It also cited an unnamed Western official as saying that Saudi Arabia would ask Pakistan to honour the alleged agreement ‘the next day’ after any Iranian nuclear bomb test. The US and other nations suspect that Iran is using its civilian nuclear work as a cover for a weapons programme, but Iran insists that its nuclear ambitions are strictly peaceful. The US has used sanctions and diplomacy to pressure Iran on the issue, but has long refused to rule out military action saying that all options are on the table. Israel is also believed to be contemplating a military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta now believes there’s a strong possibility that Israel will attack Iran in an attempt to thwart Tehran’s nuclear ambitions, according to US officials. NBC News reported. In a statement issued by the Pakistan Embassy in Saudi Arabia, Ambassador Mohammed Naeem Khan said “Each Pakistani considers (the) security of Saudi Arabia as his personal matter.” Naeem also said that the Saudi leadership considered Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to be one country. In January this year, Saudi Arabia’s former ambassador to the US, Prince Turki al-Faisal, said in an interview with an American news agency that unless a zone free of weapons of mass destruction was created in the Mideast there would ‘inevitably’ be a nuclear arms race, and “that’s not going to be in the favour of anybody.”He stressed that the Gulf states were committed not to acquire WMD. “But we’re not the only players in town. You have Turkey. You have Iraq which has a track record of wanting to go nuclear. You have Egypt. They had a very vibrant nuclear energy programme from the 1960s. You have Syria. You have other players in the area that could open Pandora’s box,” the Saudi prince said in the interview.Asked whether Saudi Arabia would maintain its commitment against acquiring WMD, Turki said: “What I suggest for Saudi Arabia and for the other Gulf states ... is that we must study carefully all the options, including the option of acquiring weapons of mass destruction. We can’t simply leave it for somebody else to decide for us.”Turki said the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council should guarantee a nuclear security umbrella for Mideast countries that join a nuclear-free zone — and impose ‘military sanctions’ against countries seen to be developing nuclear weapons. “I think that’s a better way of going at this issue of nuclear enrichment of uranium, or preventing Iran from acquiring weapons of mass destruction,” he said.In October, the US claimed that agents linked to Iran’s Qud’s Force, an elite wing of the Revolutionary Guard, were involved in a plot to kill Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the US, Adel Al-Jubeir. Iran said the claims were ‘baseless’.Turki said in November that there was ‘ample and heinous’ evidence that Iran was behind the alleged plot. He added that the evidence “indicates the depths of depravity and unreason to which the (Mahmoud) Ahmadinejad regime has sunk.”The Saudi government has also accused a terror cell linked to Iran of plotting to blow up its embassy in Bahrain, as well as the causeway linking the island kingdom to Saudi Arabia. In a secret diplomatic cable made public by WikiLeaks, Saudi King Abdullah allegedly urged Washington to strike at Iran and “cut off the head of the snake.”Turki dismissed the cable in November, telling reporters that Saudi Arabia supported sanctions and diplomatic pressure against Iran but not a military strike.

‘Iran can destroy Israel in 9 minutes’

By: Agencies | February 11, 2012 | 0
http://www.nation.com.pk/pakistan-n...eb-2012/‘iran-can-destroy-israel-in-9-minutes

Tehran - A website with close ties to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has warned that the chance to remove the ‘corrupting material’ of Israel must not be lost - and that it would only take nine minutes to wipe it out;The doctrine, first reported by WND.com, said it was a ‘jurisprudential justification’ for Iran’s Islamic government to take the helm.

The article, written by Khamenei’s strategy specialist Alireza Forghani, and published by conservative site Alef, is now being run on most state-owned conservative sites, indicating it has the regime’s support. The crux of dossier said Iran would be justified in launching a pre-emptive strike against Israel because of the threat the Jewish state’s leaders are posing against its own nuclear facilities.

The website outlined why it would be acceptable to kill all Jews and annihilate Israel. The document outlined the reasons why, “Iran must attack Israel by 2014.”It said Israel would need US approval and help to carry out such an attack, and that because of a current passive climate in America the time for Iran to strike was now.Listing statistics that reveal 5.7million of Israel’s 7.5million citizens are Jewish, the dossier breaks down the districts with the highest concentration of Jews.

It states that Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa contain more than 60 per cent of the Jewish population, which could be hit by Shahab 3 ballistic missiles to easily kill everyone.Sejil missiles, which are almost impossible to intercept, could be used to hit key nuclear plants - including Israel’s main engineering centre Rafael and the Eilun and Nebrin plants. They could also target the Dimona reactor, in the nuclear research centre in Neqeb, which produces 90 per cent of the enriched uranium used in Israel’s nuclear weapons.

Airports, air force bases, power plants, sewage treatment facilities and energy resources would also be hit. And, the dossier concluded, Ghadr missiles could also be used to target urban settlements until the Israelis were wiped out.The publication of the doctrine comes after Khamenei announced on Friday that Iran would support any nation or group that attacks the ‘cancerous tumour’ of Israel.

Thanks, Dutch. Pard, you're invaluable to keeping us updated with timely intel.

As to when Ahmadinejad decides to unveil his nuclear "demonstration," I'd be most worried that it would be in Tel Aviv. Easier for the Iranians to smuggle a weapon in by truck, or shipping crate by sea, than launch a missile. Such a "demonstration" would be not only unexpected, but catastrophic in its results... Israel would have to determine from where the weapon had come, and I don't think Ahmadinejad would be stupid enough to gloat... In all probability, Israel would launch the Samson Option, not daring to let any of it's enemies get a second blow to be thrown... The ME would become a giant, glazed, parking lot...

OA, out...

Bless all of you that bring the news to us here. Everyone I know is in total darkness concerning the middle east. They look at me like I am an alien when I talk about it. Well, I guess their 1 box of cereal and 1 gallon of milk will have to do for them. Heartbreaking to say the least!

Huge storm targets West: Ahmadinejad

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has warned of the emergence of a “huge storm of global awakening” that aims to put an end to the hegemony of the Western powers.

Speaking at the Saturday assembly of millions of Iranians marking the 33rd anniversary of Iran’s Islamic Revolution in the capital city of Tehran, Ahmadinejad called on the Western powers to take heed of the world nations’ demands against the backdrop of the spreading popular movements across the globe.

“The huge awakening is underway. The storm of global awakening is underway. If you do not join the nations, this storm will uproot tyranny and oppression. It is to your interest to be on the side of the nations,” the Iranian President said, addressing the Western powers.

Ahmadinejad described Marxism and Capitalism as the most tyrannical systems in the entire human history, saying, “Marxism is gone and the sounds of the bones of capitalism being crushed have echoed through the world.”

The Iranian chief executive insisted that the world is in need of a new order which guarantees justice, righteousness, prosperity, security and dignity for all humans, and argued that such universal governance should transcend all racist stigmas and be based on respect for humanity.

He attributed all the world’s problems to the US domination and Israel’s existence as Washington and Tel Aviv have been propping up all the autocratic regimes across the world.

Ahmadinejad made reference to the West’s escalating pressure against Iran over the country’s peaceful nuclear program and argued that the Western powers are in fact against Iran’s progress and they employ the nuclear issue as a pretext to hinder the country’s achievements.

He insisted that Iran will never be diverted from its true path “even an iota” and that the nation has managed to change hegemonic power’s discourse.

The Iranian president warned the Middle Eastern countries against the enemy plots to sow discord in the region and urged the regional nations to exercise vigilance against major developments unfolding .

Well if you don't own stock in the military type of company's that build ships, planes and their related components you might want to buy some. I see many, many multi-10 million dollar planes getting shot out of the air, a number of expensive ships sinking and of course a plethora of missiles being shot of which that supply will need to be replenished.

Of course.....all of that is dependent on this thing actually kicking off - and that's a crap shoot at best right now. Lots and lots and lots of economic woes (let alone the facts of war) if everyone starts shooting and I'm not sure if the leadership is ready for that as they'll probably get a whole lot dead during the shooting.

OA, out...

Didn't an overland "Aid" convoy from Iran recently reach Gaza? I'm sure I saw that on www.presstv.ir. but I can't search their website on my cell phone

well the income tax came in yesterday, so I am off to top off my preps. Aldi's cans are the cheapest around and I will be leaving with 2-3 cart fulls today.

I have a very bad feeling people here. So weird that it came in yesterday instead of monday as scheduled. I believe it happened for a reason. I could be wrong, but my stomach is telling me other wise.

I don't know about your side of the pond but over here Aldi & its sister store Lidal are the cheapest for bottled water, rice, dried pasta, dried beans & lentils, they're only in 1kg bags but they're still cheaper than bulk,
they're also doing seeds at the moment nice & cheap, OK they're hybrids but they'll do at a pinch, you won't be able to save the seed from them for the next year but you can buy at shed load of them to get you past the first couple of years of famine

Short but deadly
Violence continues in Syria; gunmen assassinate army general in Damascus

BEIRUT — Gunmen assassinated an army general in Damascus on Saturday in the first killing of a high ranking military officer in the Syrian capital since the uprising against President Bashar Assad's regime began in March, the state-run news agency said.

SANA said three gunmen opened fire at Brig. Gen. Issa al-Khouli in the morning as he left his home in the Damascus neighborhood of Rukn-Eddine. Al-Khouli was a doctor and the chief of a military hospital in the capital. No one claimed responsibility for the killing.

The attack indicates that violence in Syria is reaching the tightly controlled capital, which has been relatively quiet compared to other cities. Such assassinations are not uncommon outside Damascus and army officers have been killed in the past, mostly in the restive provinces of Homs and Idlib.

The U.N. estimates that 5,400 people have been killed in Syria since the uprising began in March. But that figure is from January, when the U.N. stopped counting because the chaos in the country has made it all but impossible to check the figures.

The Assad regime says terrorists acting out a foreign conspiracy to destabilize the country are behind the uprising, not people seeking to transform the authoritarian regime. The Syrian government says more than 2,000 soldiers and police officers have been killed by terrorists since March.

APSyrian rebels march in a show of strength during a demonstration in Idlib, Syria, Friday.
Also Saturday, Syrian troops shelled the Baba Amr district in the central city of Homs, killing at least four people, according to the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Another activist group, the Local Coordination Committees said 15 people were killed in Baba Amr on Saturday.

Syrian troops have been trying to regain control of areas in Homs since last Saturday when they started a major offensive on rebel-held areas. Activists say more than 400 people have been killed in Homs since then.

The Observatory also reported a rare clash between troops and defectors late Friday in the northern Damascus neighborhood of Qaboun but had no details. It said troops shot dead an activist in the area.

The violence came a day after two suicide car bombers struck security compounds in the northern city of Aleppo, killing 28 people. The blasts were the first significant violence in an industrial center that has largely stood by Assad during the 11-month uprising against his rule.

Anti-Assad activists denied any involvement and accused the regime of setting off Friday's blasts to smear the opposition as government forces pummel rebels in one of their main strongholds, Homs. State media touted the bombings as proof the regime faces a campaign by terrorists.

AO;

FWIW to you pard. *I feel as if I need no longer need keep a 'close' watch on the wall; that my self appointed task is done.

I am "not physically ready for the next "act" to begin; we still have as yet to address the water well problem, (when the electricty goes out for the last time). AO pard, I have, over the years, wondered what I would feel when that "mental switch" clicked over....signifying to me, at least. That "The Rubicon" has been crossed, and there is no "going back" now....

AO; what am I feeling? EMPTY! And yes, a bit "lost"

And yes, a weird kind of "Shock!" that human beings, no matter their religious beliefs, have "allowed" their differences "to push" them - and the whole world towards Armageddon...

Sorry for the "sad rant" ole Pard. But I have seen enough of man's inhumaity towards their fellow men/women. I have seen enough that I have no wish to partake of their "new reality"... But how to "opt out" of the coming Dant'e's inferno I am "seeing" in the near term future?

:shk:

Dutch, you've got your grandchildren still to teach. When, or if, you decide to "opt out," do so buying the farm in a way that costs the "others" dearly... You're not ready, yet, to go into that long, dark, night... Some day, we'll all make that journey... Just, not yet...

Hang in there, Pard... What you learned in the tough school of Vietnam, can readily be transferred to here... Those skills will be sorely needed...

Stay safe and well...

Just wondering about that earthquake. That is earthquake country so it's a great cover for testing. I wish we would pull our guys out of Iran's zone. We have military weapons that work long range, outside of their reach. If they close the strait, or look like they are closing the strait, THAT is when it becomes an American/European/Arab interest and THAT is when you take care of business and mean it. We have a long arm reach to just about anywhere, and can watch anyplace with great detail and accuracy...why put our people and equipment at risk? To fluff our feathers and act like a rooster. That is the only reason and I don't think it is a wise one.

Iran is not Western, the leaders of Iran believe their Mahdi is here or coming and with him, a world war that will put Islam in dominance over the world. They welcome it coming. They welcome the death and destruction. They want to help contribute to that death and destruction even if it means many of their own are caught in it and are happy to see others, like Israel or USA experience complete destruction and genocide levels of death.

Christians also have a prophesies, and know with some will come much violence and death. Those prophesies are not times we would want to jump start nor do we look forward to the death of anyone, anywhere. We are warned to know the signs and prepare. We are commanded to witness to save souls, in life, not kill them. We are told to work and not desire death. When God is ready, He will take us home, but until then, we have a purpose in life. We do not fear death because it has no hold but the act of death is not something we relish or wish on anyone.

There in is the huge difference between the two.

no seeds saw today! We are in East TN, so probably next month. I agree on grains and beans, they are cheap cheap. I have really years worth of rice, that I got for .10 per # with coupons over the past years, so I don't even look at that stuff LOL. My carts (2) were so full, we could barely push them this morning. I just smiled at the register lady and stated, we are here for our 3 month visit...don't get out here that much. Little does she know I live about 3 miles from the place. I did only cans, eggs to freeze and some snacks for the kids. Chicken was too high there for canning, so walmart trip this afternoon to get my more canning jars and I will check there as I plan to can up as much chicken legs, thighs as I can possible do within the next 2 days.

Pentagon calls for 'urgent' upgrade of massive bunker-busting bombs, as Iranian threat looms

By Jennifer Griffin
Published February 11, 2012 | FoxNews.com

The military's so-called Massive Ordnance Penetrator, a 30,000-pound bunker buster bomb, requires an "urgent" upgrade, according to Pentagon officials who are trying to ensure that 20 of the bombs are battle-ready -- possibly for use against Iran, though officials have been tight-lipped on potential targets.
The Air Force developed the bomb in conjunction with Boeing to attack concrete bunkers and tunnel facilities, and the Pentagon has requested $81 million in reallocated funds from Congress to get it ready for use.

Several observations:

One, this is very scary and concerning, and I am starting to wonder if some of these "earthquakes" are tests. I understand that most nuclear "earthquakes" leave a certain signature but not always; also while it would be hard to keep under wraps for every long, I can easily see at least US and European scientists being asked to wait on such a story (using REAL national security of various nations as the reason for the request). I can even see scientists in China, Russia and India being requested to keep in quiet in the same way; won't last forever, but that may not matter in a few days.

Another thing, The Times of London used to be a pretty good paper, but we stopped buying it a few years ago and stopped reading it when it went fire wall. The main reason was the "Sadam Hussain Execution" issue that was printed in the middle of the night here and proclaimed that "eye witnesses" reported that he died "cowering like a dog, a total coward etc..etc.." There was several pages of these so-called descriptions which made great breakfast table entertainment when read along side the REAL eye witness reports (complete with hidden footage) showing that the man may have been one of histories great monsters, but he died bravely like a man. In fact it was the American "allies" or actually rival tribesman that put on a barbaric show worthy of Hollywood Mongol warriors killing off the Chinese Emperor (complete with dancing around the hanging).

For that reason, though I know it is not illegal in the UK to print any story the government asks a paper to print, I just feel revulsion when I read the times. I still do it once in a while, usually if I need extra news paper for the cat pans (I'm not kidding, its a big paper and sometimes has entertaining human interests stories) and you can get a feel for what "they" want you to know.

Which in some ways makes this story more worrying because not only do "they" (aka the Powers the Be in the UK/West) want this story out there, they didn't wait to make the huge Sunday Morning Edition headline tomorrow that you would have expected. Which means that either they were told not to wait, or worried that if they waited the story might already happen. After all tomorrow is NOT a holiday in the Middle East, that's yesterday and today in most places.

Finally, a side note - I have found that "Asian" shops here in Ireland (and to some degree the UK) are the hidden gem of bulk buying. Also, ordering some from health food stores and watching the "loss leader" sales at regular shops (I got 20 pounds of butter for the freezer that way for 20 Euros, its been used of course, but it was still a great buy for the holidays). You have to dig around in these "Asian" markets because some things are more expensive, but a lot of times the big bags of rice, chick peas (garbanzo beans), beans etc are cheaper. You just have to keep looking and be willing to shop around; Lidles and Aldis are certainly next on the list...

Placing 3 carrier tasks force in the persian gulf is treason. It is the same set up as pearl harbor. No need to place those assets in harms way. They can strike Iran without being in that little puddle of water. They have the capabilities of launching far more than jets. This is the same mentality that put a 30 man seal team on one chopper. Zero wants this disaster to happen. You are talking well over 20,000 personel in the 3 task force on cruise in the persian puddle. We have a air base in Quatar and you can send stealth bombers out of new mexico to strike anywhere in the world. Has been done in the last one.

So.

We get a choice which way to bet. The Syrian Civil War (which is what it IS, regardless what folks are trying to paint it as) can light the fire, or Ahmadhi-nejad can kick it off.
Or the Soviets can.
Or the Lebanese can.

CARP I hate choices.

Dutch, don't you DARE opt out before I get back to TX and get some study time in with you....
Yeah we'll be the halt leading the lame, but....

The first verse was relevant to another post but the whole thing is relevant here::

Michael W Smith, lyrics by Rich Mullins:

When He rolls up His sleeves
He ain't just puttin' on the ritz
(our God is an awesome God)
There is thunder in His footsteps
And lightning in His fist
(our God is an awesome God)
Well, the Lord wasn't joking
When He kicked 'em out of Eden
It wasn't for no reason that He shed his blood
His return is very close and so you better be believing
that our God is an awesome God

REFRAIN
Our God(our God) is an awesome God
He reigns(He reigns) from heaven above
With wisdom(with wisdom) pow'r and love
our God is an awesome God

And when the sky was starless in the void of the night
(our God is an awesome God)
He spoke into the darkness and created the light
(our God is an awesome God)
Judgment and wrath he poured out on Sodom
Mercy and grace He gave us at the cross
I hope that we have not too quickly forgotten that
our God is an awesome God

Refrain x3

Our God is an awesome God
Our God is an awesome God
(Our God is an awesome God)
(Our God is an awesome God)
