I wasn't sure where to post this so decided on a stand-alone thread for now - but mods can move it if they like - this is an e-mail blog from a friend of mine who is one of those rare birds, a somewhat liberal Prepper here in Ireland. He's also getting an advanced degree in pre-1600 cooking...
I am posting this public Wall Street Journal article partly because of the headline, if you read the article it could easily have a title like "Americans return to the thrifty ways of their great-grandparents," or "A full pantry is a new household must-have for American Families" instead it is...
Yep, this is the Guardian, which locals joke as being "To the Left of Lenin" but they are still a "mainstream" paper - it is no surprise that the Guardian focuses on the more liberal members of this movement in France (and other European Countries) and as the West Coast there ARE liberal...

Hi all. Can you please suggest some of the best prep sites (for info and also for gear)? I, of course, know Shane's site from post 911 and have stumbled across some others over the years. Much has changed due to the more recent popularity of prepping in the mainstream media, so I would like...
This is the first chapter of a book I wrote. I'd like to know if anyone likes the story and would like me to continue posting it and any constructive criticism is welcome.
The story as indicated by the title is about a bad scenario happening just as many of us doomers have talked about. It...
Just wanted to share this blog post that we put up this morning, that has had a great response from those who have read it:

Hi!
I just got a contract to do a book for beginners about Living Off The Grid. When they first contacted me - it was more about sustainable living (preparedness, etc....) - now, the title has changed slightly.
When I think "living off the grid" - I think about solar power, windmills, etc...
I used to be very robust and healthy. I could work all day at whatever I wanted to do from clearing land, splitting logs, digging.
I once spent an entire day lifting 150-200 lb railroad ties to my shoulder and moving them about 50 yards away.
I wanted a pickup so I could haul things around...
