We lost power for a few hours yesterday as they were completing repairs in another neighborhood in the area and someone zigged when they should have zagged and brought down one of the older wood electric poles still in use around here. That in turn ripped out some wires at the switching station. Sigh.

Honestly feel for folks but at least it isn't too warm right now.

Pretty much the answer. And there is a big difference between standing water and water that is ripping across the road. The latter being dangerous.

Years ago I was at work during a big hurricane, I went to leave only went about a half mile, went back to our yard parked my f350 and took a big ass utility truck for setting telephone poles home. 40k pounds and a solid 3' of clearance. No problems.

I was in central florida for years (lake county) weathereg a couple of hurricanes and Troppies, even rode out one in a 34' fifth wheel. Best tv receptuon usinf antenna I evwr got rhere.

I’m just your average taxpayer, but I don’t think the US taxpayers should pay for all the people that didn’t have flood insurance.

I thought about moving to Florida for a time, and after much consideration, I decided against it for many reasons.

But one of them was, the cost of insurance is crazy high in Florida. I ended up in the Midwest, and everything here is much cheaper.

My point is, I made those decisions and I don’t think I should have to pay for somebody else’s house when they decided not to buy flood insurance.

We up here in NY are still getting remnants. They're weird. It's like sort of lines of puffy white clouds still touched with black. But the weird part is -- all the clouds are moving in a southerly direction, and it's windy. That never ever happens here that the clouds move south. Hurricanes.

FEMA is almost useless. Last time I talked to folks fema 'helped' fema showed up with empty trucks of water and blocked outside incoming. Folks used tgeir boats to bring supplies and said next time they would blow the two bridges that were the only vehicle access and just keep fema out of it.

This! Having my mom in Ft. Myers (NOT Ft. Myers Beach - thank goodness), I have been watching their local new which is being live streamed. It is SO much worse than what would be shown anywhere else. Mom's damage is much less than others in her community. She is blessed to know that she has somewhere to stay (just upstairs from her condo) for the next couple of months. She has contacts back in NW Ohio that she can utilize to replace her car. What has happened in SWFL is heartbreaking. Arcadia was just on the news tonight for still being flooded out :(

My friend contacted me yesterday and let me know that the water just receded from their house Saturday night. They’re still stuck in the house and sleeping on a damp mattress (covered with fresh blankets).

They had four feet of water in their house.

They’re in Fort Myers.

I haven't been following any of the above, but usually if you hear that conservatives voted no for something like "save the puppies from being abused" type of legislation it is because the liberals put something else (really bad) in the bill, like free tax payer funded trans surgeries for 10 year olds or something like that.
