Alfa Man, I think it is a combination of several things. Often when I get a text it will say, “ Your prescription for——- is now back in stock and ready for pickup.” So I think they are having a difficult time getting in some medications and are short staffed. My neighbor told me our CVS has closed their drive through for the last few days. It’s not unusual to see cars wrapped around the building . My niece went in several months ago and said the store looked in disarray. Also as I mentioned I called the other day and was on hold for 30 minutes and finally hung up.

If this continues, I‘ll probably go to a different pharmacy .
That is what I did. The CVS we were using was impossible. Everything that could be wrong was happening. So glad I moved to Medicine Shoppe. Everytime we picked something up they would tell us DH didn't have coverage and want to charge us some outrageous price. Plus you can't get them on the phone. I hope they go belly up.

Kind of food missing/dot.

Just cracked open the Whitman's Sampler. It's been a traditional Christmas Gift in my family in like forever. Now thought something is different. Many of the candies have specifically peanuts listed as an ingredient where in past years they would have walnuts, cashews or almonds. There were two coconut candies. Other candies have the ingredient "nut" in their name but not a specific nut.

Their management has done stupid stuff before. One year they sent their candies to be packed in China. Somewhere along the way to Christmas they were not properly stored and the chocolate "bloomed". The ones we got didn't taste right either.

I think we need a new tradition.

You might look at ordering Esther Price.
The absolute best in my opinion. A small family run place in Dayton Ohio. Took my kids on a tour there many years ago.

I saw someone post a Frito pie recipe and decided I want some Frito's. I don't buy chips often because I just don't need them and they're not my "drug" of choice LOL. But they're $5 a bag!! Nope won't pay it. I'll check the 99 cent store to see if they have a smaller bag. $5 for chips is ridiculous. But, they're a want not a need...

Someone above mentioned they hoped CVS went belly up. The problem with current situation is that many many businesses have/are/will go belly up. The more businesses that fail the less competition and the less the general public will benefit from competition which keeps prices lower.

In a city of 25,000 which is a major shopping center for this rural area there is no store left where I can find clothing. I'm a senior citizen and the shops selling to teenagers and younger women have nothing I would wear. Sears, Younkers and Penneys were my stores of choice all of which are gone. I've had a $26 Kohls credit for over a year that I've not used because no clothing they have appeals to me or is so darned expensive it's ridiculous. If I can't find what I want at thrift stores, at least I have the choice of dusting off my sewing skills and making my own stuff.

Sorry for your problems. I have been going crazy with local CVS. That is why I said that. With all the screwups I've put up with the last year competitive prices are the least of my concerns. As long as I get my BC discount on medicine, correct prescription, timely delivery, and can talk to a pharmacy employee I am not going to nit pick a few dollars more if they do in fact cost more.CVS isn't that cheap.

I just had a call from my brother in Kensington, MD. He said the shelves in the meat, produce, and dairy are empty at the Gaint and Target stores. The manager at the grocery store said they now have 40% of the workforce at the warehouse out with covid. Most of the truck drivers are also out sick. He expects things to get worse. It will be interesting to see what happens when people can't buy food.

Neither here nor there.

Find a local candy maker and buy from them, I think you'll be happier in the long run.

Lack of pet food is going to be a serious problem in the not too distance future. Everyone and their brother that have an insta account, has bought a pet in the last several years. Figure in the people that got comfort animals too. What are they going to do when there's no more pet food of any kind, and they realize they can't afford to feed them precious people food?

We haven’t seen many cat food shortage in our area but my 23 year old son has 3 cats…..I was on him about making sure he had a lot of extras for them. A few weeks ago he finally listened and says he now has about 9 months worth of food and liter put away. I told him to get more whenever he has a chance or extra $$

greysage - you've asked a question long in my mind. I personally choose not to have pets because I cannot afford proper vet care for them. I have known a few individuals over the years that used funds for pets that were in actual fact needed for themselves. I consider that short sighted because if they do not take care of themselves first what happens to the pet when they become unable to care for it?

I have seen no shortage of dry dog (or cat-though I don't do cats) food. Seems to be the more expensive cuts of canned that people are looking for, and that's probably being limited mostly by processing and the can itself.

pet food. go to a Tractor Supply or Baumgars farm store, they may not have the fancy brands but they got dog food and cat food. also look for COOP stores, most small towns have one, the one in the next town over makes there own animal food. the dogs and cats will get used to eating it or they will die, im not being mean, just a fact, you cant spend the extra time and money getting the fancy food a picky cat wants, you need to concern yourself with what you eat more,

If there's an Aldi nearby, try the Clancy corn chips. Believe it or not...I couldn't tell the difference between Clancy and name brand Frito. I feel certain in a recipe, there would not be a difference either. Other Clancy chips, I can tell, but not these. The Clancy brand used to be 69 cents per bag! Now, I think they're $1.29. Buying them now, for me, is a no, no. I'm cutting down and these are among the things that must go.

Closest Aldi is a couple hundred miles from me in Hesperia, CA. I don't buy chips often but just had a craving. By the time I get to a store the craving will be gone LOL

you cant deprive yourself of everything, you need to get yourself something good that you like once in awhile. a want is important. you will burn out trying to only get what you think you need to have, give yourself some goodies once in awhile.

An update on this post.
I was told this evening that my CVS only has 3 people working now. The pharmacist and one other person in the pharmacy and one person out on the floor. The other employees are out with Covid.

From what I understand they are either closing the pharmacy to inside customers and just serving the drive through customers and then at other times they close the drive through and the pharmacy then only service people coming in the store. I’m not sure what that schedule looks like.

This sure explains all the issues they are having.

There is more afoot than covid, IMO.

My daughter had it bad over Thanksgiving. She missed a total of 4½ days of work. I know, I know. Not everyone is that way. But, by now, I would think if it was strictly coronaviri, our population would be largely categorized as already had it.

I believe illness is a factor, but not to this degree.

Went to Food Lion today - Charlotte, NC - I went purposely to find any meat on sale to vacuum seal and start stocking up for the next couple of years. I took out a package of Cube Steak I had in the freezer (6 in a pack) that I bought in September. I paid $5.37 for it - today, same size package cost me $10.63!!! Had gone up 100% in less than 5 months.

Texas: went to HEB after a doctor appointment yesterday, with Son. He wanted snacks, I needed mushrooms. Not much of either. They are "narrowing" their snack assortment--deeper on their stuff, eliminating some of the things we like in the chip aisle, for example. The gaps were larger this time, bread, veggies, snack aisle. He remarked when we got into the car that it almost looked like they hadn't gotten a truck, although we saw that there was a trailer sitting there.

Whelp, I believe I just nabbed the last bag on the face of the earth of the Addiction Duck Royale Grain Free Dry Cat Food, 4 Lb. Got THE last bag on Amazon with it nowhere else to be found. So now I have to switch cat food which will probably bring about much throwing up between my 2 cats. Picked two other dry Duck cat food brands. Soon, all pet food may become obsolete!

Buy another bag of something NOW! Mix 10% with the "good stuff", then increase it over time ... it's likely to reduce the chances of them refusing to est the new stuff...

Back from a trip to Wallyworld in Kerrville, Tex. Did not go to either HEB, as I found enough to do me at WM. My takeaway from this trip: Multiple holes, mainly in foreign-made stuff. Was looking for a couple of those mats that go into the bottom of the sink to hold things up off the bottom of the sink. Empty hole. They're a Rubbermaid product, probably made in Chinkyland. Right next to them, stuffed shelves of all sizes and shapes of Kerr and Ball mason jars. No off-brands whatsoever. They did have Golden Harvest lids, regular mouth, made in USA, for 1.47/dozen. At twelve cents a lid, that's not much off the pre-cootie price of 1.28 I was paying before, so I cleaned 'em out. Twelve boxes. Gross of US made lids for <$20, not bad.

On to the pet stuff. Scattering of dry cat and dog, not much brand choice but there WAS dry food there in all sizes. Didn't buy any because we've got a considerable order from Tractor Supply in transit already. Wet, though, is another story entirely. ZERO wet cat mush. (Pate.) Very little of chunks, except for in the my-cat's-a-queen price range, and not much of that. Dog wet food, sixteen vegetable-sized cans of it (as opposed to the pork-n-bean size, which was not in stock at all). Bought 'em out.

On to food end. All I was after was yellow tags on meat and to kinda look around. I was apparently too late for the reduced meats, as there wasn't a yellow tag on anything. They did, however, have a 4 ft section of the chicken display devoted to innards and extremities. Gizzards 89c/lb, feet 99c/lb, about half stocked with "normal" part of chickens at roughly buck and a quarter for dark, 2 bucks for white. Pork was really picked over, not a single thick cut chop in the display, a few scraggly looking half-inch pork chops, 3-4 whole roasts, and ground pork.

Beef was fairly well stocked and high as a kite for prices. Probably why it was well-stocked. Made a note of the 'sell by' date--most of it was the 14th-- and will be back early the 13th when the guy's out there with his little yellow tag printer :D

Didn't go through the produce section but from afar it looked to be about 80% capacity on the shelves. Milk and dairy was picked over but not bare. TP and PT aisles well-stocked.

Valentine's stuff facing the front midway was gap-toothed as hell, almost looked like Feb 14th at 5pm (isn't that when most guys freak out and go grab something for their honey?) The row in from there, also devoted to seasonal, was practically bare.

They do have their winter outerwear on clearance, so I did pick up a....well, IDK what to call it...heavy quilted snap shirt?....which, combined with a vest, is plenty for all but maybe one or two days a year here. Regular 28 and change, on 'clearance' for 15. Figured it'd keep me warmer than those pics of Alex and Ben....unless I need those greenish portraits to start a fire with someday.

Store brand carb cleaner is still 1.97 a can. Got some more to stack in the shop. Marvel Mystery Oil, same. It was still under $5/quart so I grabbed a couple of those as well. Wipers were picked over horribly, but then it's sleeting and drizzling here, so what can one expect?

Still getting sticker shock at the register though. A year ago this kind of run, even including an impulse buy of that jacket, would've been close but I'd have gotten change from a hundred. Today's trip set me back 140. Not the end of the world ....yet. FRN's are still holding value for long enough to get to the store and spend it. I feel bad for those who squirrel away their paper money because what they worked an hour to get last year buys about half to 60% of what that same hour's paper will buy now.

I went to Dollar General to get cat food, canned. They were out again. I saw the manager and asked if there is a shortage of cat food. He said yes, he can't get any in.

I went to Petsmart for fish filters on Sunday and they had quite a bit of cat food, canned and dry. Maybe try Chewy online? They're owned by Petsmart.

I found some cat food hidden at Dollar General . I went to a bigger grocery store, and they were out. I got to thinking about it and they have been out for over a month. (Food Lion)

I finally forced myself to go to town to shop today. It was not pleasant. CVS first and they did not have the one item I really needed although I did pick up a few items. Only good thing is with that purchase I ended up with three credits totaling $7.52. So I went back in and used the credits on another item. A lot of empty shelves.

On to Walmart where I was unable to get several items on my list including a couple quarts of oil for the car -- shelves were completely empty. Lots of empty or nearly empty shelves throughout the store. At the checkout three of us were behind a couple with two huge cart loads which took forever to check out. Lady in front of me was complaining and I told her to be nice because if that clerk quits it will be even worse next time. So she was nice to the lady and then I was and I even got a smile. Being kind costs nothing and I never complain unless there is extremely bad behavior happening. Spoke to a clerk when we were both washing hands after restroom visit, who said empty shelves were in a large part not having anyone to stock them. Said she was the only one in her department which should have three people.

On to Aldi where many shelves were again empty or thin although not as bad as Walmart. They did not have much bread and none of what I wanted and no pineapple (also Walmart did not have any). I talked with a couple of senior citizens about shopping and one lady was very sad and frightened with very little food in her cart. The other was sort of matter of fact but concerned things are getting worse. A whole portion of the poultry section had a curtain blocking it off and there was very little chicken in the case. There was a sign for 99¢ per pound for whole chickens, but there were none in the case. I got the last half gallon of 2% milk. Last time I was there they were out. Egg prices have jumped to $1.42 from 96¢ last time I bought them.

On to Fareway where shelves were mostly stocked and I finally got my pineapple! Produce was somewhat thin and freezers of TV dinners were empty. Canned goods were fully stocked except for fruits where were there thin. Fareway's meat counter looked to be fully stocked. The shops were all busy and people were friendly and very few masks.

I only window shopped meat products because just seeing the prices caused me to hyperventilate.

I went to Big Lots for our spring water. It was a dollar a gallon like 2 weeks ago, today $1.29. That's 29% increase in two weeks. I had a ten dollar off $40 coupon so I got some nuts and soups also.

Went to Aldi's and it was bare in the dairy area, almost no eggs. No chicken to speak of.
