Saved, to glorify God.
My 360 packages of Goya Ham concentrate JUST arrived at 11pm. There were 18 boxes of 20 packs in Each box
EACH pack is equivalent to putting 1/4 pound of country smoked ham in your beans or soup, eggs or cassarole..
I paid $42 for it plus shipping.

I’ve been buying bacon almost every week to add to the freezer. I realized I should also buy bacon bits. It’s shelf stable and will at least add the flavor of bacon to meals. HEB sells 2.5 oz for $1.86 and bigger bags 10 oz for $4.98.

Just put in my curbside order. Smith's was out of Kroger bacon so I splurged and bout a 1.5 pound of Wrights for $8.49. The only other sub was again Kroger brand diced tomatoes. I'll get Hunt's.

I put in a large order this week that included a wide variety of canned goods, fresh veggies, meats, and some personal items. All fulfilled. That's it for me for a while. I'll be spending money now turning DD's music room into my office.

Dog food is getting nearly impossible to find in cans.

Owner just pulled in with a trailer-load of rough-sawn lumber, ostensibly to put a corrugated roof over the chicken pen.

He's tired of cleaning snow off the Harbor Freight "Carport" that currently covers the pen (and keeps out predators.) And the Harbor Freight car-port has now bent THREE tubes in a heavy rain (always No. 2 tube he says.)

His last foray to the mill resulted in rough sawns for a fence at about $0.75 per linear foot - this was a little over a year ago during the pandemic.

Today he says he paid $1 per linear foot for the same lumber. And the inventory is down?

He asked about the inventory - "We shut down the mill this summer to do routine maintenance and an upgrade - we're having problems getting parts and like any re-start there are issues."

Of course parts are not made in the US anymore. And issues might have to do with labor shortage. Owner says there were only two employees present on a Saturday morning.

Just more of the "Biden Economy."

Owner says he followed a teacher's car home with his truck. He says the back of the car had the usual "leftist drivel" about "Resist" and "Reading is Fundamental."

Also a "Vote Biden" sticker that someone tried to remove.

I wonder why?

Owner I expect already knows.

My dogs don't eat canned food but I do like to have some on hand just in case.
Owner used to be friends with an elderly gentleman who was in his 90s. His Social Security stipend was doubtless value set in the 1970s.

Owner observed in the gent's pantry BOXES filled with cat food.

The elderly gentleman had no cats.

Is there a culinary preference for cat-food over dog-food among humans? Having some on hand "just in case" is more or less the storage equivalent of SPAM is it not?

Oh, sorry. I got hung up on the "I do like."

Got up early and went Krogering.
Everything was very well stocked and looked pretty, for the most part. Especially the produce! It was bursting!

Chuck roasts on sale again but not at a great price point- I think 4.99/lb?
I got a smaller one to add to the freezer but boy, those big ones looked tempting. :(

Chicken was kind of sparse.
Spices are VERY sparse, and still no basil!

I really didn’t notice any other weird empty shelves unless they were in the other aisles I did t travel down lol.

I am a great grand ma and if you want a tip from MY grandma:

For fast food always keep whole boiled potatoes in the refrigerator and replace them as you use them.

Then, when you dont have time, or company suddenly lands on your doorstep you can quickly make potato salad, or fried potatoes with eggs, or any number of potato dishes.

Cats will DIE eating dog food.
They need almost 100% meat diet.
So if you are reduced to eating an animal food diet better supplement it with protein or other meat, or cat food for daily protein.

BUT, A human would die on a protein only diet. Rabbit starvation still takes a few people out for lack of fat.

IF you are getting your food from wild meat DONT TELL ME YOU DONT "LIKE" LIVER or heart or kidneys. You HAVE to eat the organ meats in game to supply some of the vitamins and minerals eating the flesh only does NOT supply. Like the skin of a fish, is a must eat when diet is limited.

That's the German way! Always boil a large pot of potatoes, and put in the fridge. You can use them for potato salad, fried potatoes, potato pancakes, etc.

Was shopping here in central Virginia at both Giant and Walmart
They had 17 oz center cut bacon...very nice bacon. ..for about $11.50 per package....a couple of cents different per store. . Wow just wow.
Inflation anyone.....we are well-stocked here but more facing of shelves so they appear to have more but most things still available. ...except for sales ..prices are nuts....meat through the roof...even pork has really jumped in price...we shop the sales

We know the cashier at Walmart and she said her store manager told her to get her Christmas shopping done as there would be not a lot more coming in and to stock up on food. Just another confirmation of problems ahead. They did have a few jars and regular lids and rings.

Have been adding more beans and rice every week so we will have something to share with friends and neighbors who are behind in stocking up their "winter pantry"..and a small can of meat, ham or chicken etc...some just don't realize and others can't afford to. Going to vacumn seal rice in one lb bags. It is just the right thing to do. Have 2x2 zip lock bags for salt. Much easier to feed people than the other alternative. We were able to 25 lb bags of rice at BJ's for $13.00 each with coupons. Beans at the store are still inexpensive. Just thinking out loud.....

Also adding a box of salt each week, both table and some more canning salt from time to time. Also getting Goya ham seasoning to have and share. .

Don't stop preparing. .we will all need it

That is good of you. I feel the same. I give a portion of whatever cases or meat I buy to my neighbor. Consider it my tithe as I don't have a church. Her 90 dollar food stamps don't go far. This inflation is terrifying!

Disect a "chicken patty" and you will find out it's a "Chicken flavor bread patty". No Chicken in that thing.
We get stuff like that in commodities and its not fit for human consumption, although the dog does like it. This is the kind of crap that seniors get in senior centers and hospital food. Its swill. The bacon seeds would eat it too. The package does not even say what it is, although its kind of shaped like a pork chop, DH thought it was fish.

Reminds me of the old Kroger jingle:

Let's go Krogering, Krogering, KROGERING
Let's go Krogering; The happy way to shop.

Liddle brother got the first line right, and ended with, "The happy way to croak."

I made the mistake, one time, buying a bag of Tyson's frozen, breaded, boneless chicken breasts. It wasn't fit to eat. Mostly breaded with a bit of chicken mixed in. I cooked it for our dog, and he wouldn't even eat it. The cats loved it, though.

DH dumps a few pieces right out of the freezer for the dog, she eats it after its defrosted.

I bought a few frozen meals ($1) DH ate one but won't eat anymore of them. They are pretty bad.

Over the past few years, living alone, I've learned that the frozen entrees and breaded ANYTHING turn into an unpalatable serving of disappointment. I mean, cooking for one is a pain, and I'd figured the cheap, single- serving offerings made sense. THEY DO NOT.

Aldi's is pretty good. Famous chicken breast patties in the Red Bag. :) Supposed to taste like Chick-Fil-A. I don't know because I never eat there, but they're pretty decent for frozen chicken.

That’s why I used that term lolol!!
(Krogering)

Doesn't everyone? LOL!!!
And if you're from around where I live, you don't go to Kroger -- it's Kroger's. Same with lots of other stores. No idea why. Same reason we say "please?" instead of "what did you say?" I guess...

For what it's worth, my son works at a Kroger in SE Ohio and I asked him a couple days ago if he'd seen any shortages, either in his department (produce) or elsewhere. He said no.

Where I live, if there are empty shelves at the grocery it's probably because they're having trouble hiring people to unload the trucks and stock. Likely the same everywhere. Gosh, I wonder why?

I agree. My mom learned that the hard way, too.

Neither here nor there.
We treat ourselves to a fast food place called Boomerang for dinner ever so often. In the last two weeks they have had no onionrings.

Of course they could make their own, but not in their MO. I think they just can't get the pre-batterd ones their use to?

I thought they had good rings too.

If you have a Sam's Club near by buy their frozen onion rings, they're pretty good.

The problem with that is they will be back, and bring others with them. If your stock runs low for your own family, what are you going to tell people you already gave too? You think they will take, no sorry, you don't have any more you can give away? If their kids are hungry, they won't just walk away and leave you alone.

My sister and brother in law drink de-caff diet pepsi. There is none in our area of southern WI. I talked with a couple of Pepsi delivery guys and they said no, they haven't seen any in a couple of weeks. They were not sure if or when they will have it again.

It's rare for us to have a Coke, but they're handy for upset stomachs, etc. We haven't seen de-caff Coke in about a year, we've heard since it wasn't as popular as other varieties, they're not making it. At least that leaves Sprite, 7-Up, or Ginger Ale for now. A 12-pk will last us months, easy.

Not frozen --- but Compleats are actually pretty good. They aren't cheap anymore ($1.98 each here) but they're quick and easy. I only eat the chicken and mashed potatoes or the spaghetti versions. I admit I didn't like the turkey.
And Dinty Moore used to have some single serve stew in a can that was wonderful, but I haven't seen any in years. They probably don't make it anymore.

And my father always had my mom boil or bake extra potatoes. He loved having them cubed up for breakfast.

Fried up with bacon fat until they were nice and crispy.
