I think you've "hit the nail on the head" with our problem growing potatoes. There are very few gardeners here that try to grow them. Probably for the same reason you stated. Onions are another hard to grow crop. They just won't grow here. I've never tried to grow carrots, but I don't know of anyone that has. Radishes will barely grow.
We've had the same problem here, DH says its because we have sandy soil. Although other people around here seem to be able to grow those things. This year was the first time we ever used fertilizer, hoping it would help and it was the worst year we've had. DH was a very successful gardener in Illinois.

Saved, to glorify God.
"In an attempt to eliminate fossil fuels, this legislation would impose a “fee” on all methane emissions, including in our agriculture industry. We all know that a fee is just a tax and that consumers are the ones who will pay for it. The tax is estimated to cost $6,500 per dairy cow, $2,600 per head of cattle, and $500 per swine each year. That is more than what the animals are worth, it’ll run ranchers out of business."

It is an ENGINEERED, DELIBERATE FAMINE!

Leftover pizza. You re-heat it in the m'wave, and you're rewarded with a soggy, limp slice of disappointment.

I figured out a better way. Skillet with lid; best to use ceramic, SS, or cast iron; nothing with non-stick coating. Place a wire cooling rack in the skillet, and your pizza slice(es) on the rack, then the lid. Use a med heat to that burner. Depending on your stove's temperament, you'll have to fiddle around with the temp and timing. I set the heat to 4, and check on it in about 15 min.

What do I get? A nice slice of pizza with the bottom of the crust crispy, the cheese gooey, and the toppings warmed.

I always have enough jars and lids on-hand to can up the freezer items should it become necessary. The only time I had a week long outage it was zero outside so no issue with keeping things frozen still I was prepared to can if needed.

No problem growing potatoes here although with drought crop is smaller in size and volume. Only year I had a complete failure was extreme moisture and the potatoes just turned to rotten liquid mush. I'd get a soil test to start the process and then amend the soil. For years I've used shredded leaves stored over winter to put heavy mulch on potato bed and then tilled after harvest in which has greatly improved the tilth of the soil. Of course, I have 12" of rich black top soil to begin with so my experience does not transfer to heavy clay soils.

I just finished a large stocking for winter order at Stater Bros. S. CA. No shortages in canned goods as far as what I ordered. Still very little Oscar Meyer lunchmeat. Been ages since I could buy Olive Loaf and Beef Bologna is hit or miss. Produce was good. Meat was good. Dairy in stock. No shortages as far as I could tell not going in person.
Hugely expensive but the green peppers here were 99 and the other produce seemed reasonable enough.
Coke was in stock also.

I have another order coming from Costco. Crossing my fingers on the Organic Chickens and DH's potato chips.
Not many items from them. Mostly meat.

Prolly about 3 months ago. I got enough for a good long while. I also spent a lot on enough chicken feed, I figure I got close to 3 mo's worth for my girls and I plan on roasting a few of the old ladies this winter. Got a couple extra bags of scratch too, that will feed them, but not necessarily great for eggs, although I have calcium for them, enough for at least a couple years. Just trying to figure for hard times.
OTOH, I have plenty of people food, always have had quite a bit put away....
We save our egg shells, after we get a bag full DH microwaves them and crushes them up and gives them to the chickens. We had eggs out the wazo all last winter, even when it got really cold, for us that is.

Neither here nor there.
She purchased 3 Beef Roasts this weekend at 2.97lb and said people were literally fighting over them this weekend when she worked. She said she has never seen anything like it.

Crazy times I am in Phoenix AZ"

The urban areas are where I'm seeing the most complaints, as far as shortages go. If you're in a major city and can move do so and soon, life there is only going to get worse.

Received my Costco order and as expected had to sub reg for organic chickens. Good news they were half the price of organic and large 5 pounders. So have my TG dinner.
Everything else was in stock. Pastries, chips steak, hamburger.

Other supplies I ordered online. Amys low sodium veg soup Amazon. 29 bucks, organic cereal Bob's Red Mill. Cookies and cereal from Scottish grocer. They only had 1 pkg of Scottish oatmeal which I thought was weird.
And please I'M DONE till next year except for lettuce and fresh veggies.

I crush our almost to the point of turning them into powder, then I spread them on top the garden bed, then rake them into the top layer of the garden soil.

Today's the day for the weekly SMith's trip (NE NV). So far there are no limits on anything, but I am started to see a few more holes. Like others have said, the frozen potato products were very sparse. The fresh potatoes were nearly non-existent. There were no Johnsonville breakfast sausage links that the kids all wanted this weekend. The juice aisle was fairly thin, as was the Gatorade. The water looked like it had just been restocked. There was little white vinegar and the deli meat was really thin. The ranch store had canning lids, but I didn't want to pay $5 per box. So glad I stocked up back in March 2020 when someone (Packy, I think) mentioned that Target had their lids on sale. IIRC, they were $1.32 per box. Those were the days....

That was probably me, I casually mentioned it hoping others would take the hint and stock up as I didn't want to cause an immediate run on lids. Someone did that in the facespy canning groups and that's exactly what happened. Canners got up ran to the stores and bought everything they could find.

Smiths is a Kroger store. Here is a list of West coast Kroger warehouses ....you might not be getting product from the same warehouse. Locally one of my stores had their warehouse closed for 3 was for COVID and just reopened. View attachment 293109
We're supplied from Layton, UT up here. But I also suspect it might have something to do with supporting the mining community. Gotta keep the gold coming out of the mines.

Ho Lee Krap.

Walked into the local grocery store. During the year they typically bring in a pallet or two of green beans and corn and leave it out until it's sold out. Last year, about this time, the pallets were out and the veggies were 50 cents a can. Walked by and had to double take and make sure it wasn't some deal...

99 CENTS A CAN FOR CORN AND GREEN BEANS.

Plenty of inventory, just 100% higher in cost. Thankfully we just made more room in the pantry, I suggested canned veggies and soap in the new space. Today confirmed that.

It's coming, they're going to try and starve us out. Mudder Fudders!!!

That happened at one grocery store we shop. One week, all their corn, green beans, and sweet peas were all 50 cents a can. Two weeks later, they were still on sale all $1.00 a can. Glad I stocked up while they were 50 cents a can.

Tyson chicken breast frozen breaded missing from shelves for a month. Today still empty but the new price tags have risen by $2.00 a bag. SE Wisconsin.
Another local grocery store had a family brand on sale for 45% cheaper. So it seems there still is a price fluctuation in frozen breaded chicken.

Went to Sam's, C. Pike, Memphis yesterday w/ a list. Got everything but did see some price creep - up, of course.

Only place I saw huge gaps was in Paper products. Hardly any TP but lots of Paper towels, related stuff. There was a couple of trailers at the dock which is unusual at that time of day there so maybe a logistics issue on the TP.

No Chlorox liquids @ that location but sprays seemed well stocked. Zero wipes of any type/brand, no exam gloves. Everything else seemed OK.

At our local Walmart two weeks ago, Margaret Holme's canned veggies were on sale for $1.00 a can. Yesterday, I went, and they were all on sale for 98 cents a can. I took the plunge, and bought flats of canned cabbage, squash, and butter beans. We really like Margaret Holme's brand. This was in Amory, MS. I picked up a couple of cans of Glory brand fried apples to try, since I've never had any from a can before.

I did my usual early shopping in my nearby small town this morning. While I was waiting for opening time at Dollar General, I happened to notice a big rig parked at the far side of the lot. It was still very dark out but I could read on the side of the trailer that it said "Dollar General. When the manager, who is a very nice young woman, stepped out to have a last cigarette, I asked her if that was her "Tuesday truck" and she just gave a grim nod. And she said it would be unloading out back at 7 AM. The Coke truck showed up and he parked and waited for 7 AM, too.

With the store not even having their Tuesday delivery unloaded on Friday morning, let alone actually on the shelves, I was surprised to find nearly everything on my shopping list. I may go back tomorrow for a couple of things I forgot at the grocery, and if so, I'll go to DG again, too, just to see what the truck actually brought them. I should probably head down to the gas station and top off the truck's gas tank while I'm at it.

I'm in the NW part of central Arkansas, not too far north of I-40.

We treat ourselves to a fast food place called Boomerang for dinner ever so often. In the last two weeks they have had no onionrings.

Of course they could make their own, but not in their MO. I think they just can't get the pre-batterd ones their use to?

I thought they had good rings too.

Went to Sherman Texas on Thursday, 09/30/2021, to shop. Eleven hour trip.

Meat prices have gone up again. Price for brisket was $4 to $5 per pound. Prices were up slightly on other items.

Got most of what I shopped for. Also used digital coupons from Kroger's and Albertson's to save money. Near empty shelves on specials at both Kroger's and Albertson's.

Bacon is over $7 per pound. The local store that carried boxes of bacon for $23 ($2.30 per pound) can no longer get the boxed bacon.

As many have stated: Buy now before prices go up again.
