No more COVID-19 lockdowns, UK health minister suggests

LONDON, Sept 12 (Reuters) – British health minister Sajid Javid said on Sunday he did not expect the country to see any more lockdowns and ruled out the use of vaccine passports to allow people to attend mass events.

“I am not anticipating any more lockdowns. I think it would be irresponsible for any health minister around the world to take everything off the table but I just don’t see how we get to another lockdown.”

Javid added: “What I can say is that we’ve looked at it properly and whilst we should keep it in reserve as a potential option, I am pleased to say we will not going be going ahead with plans for vaccine passports.”

Boris Johnson will announce this week that he is scrapping plans that would have required vaccine passports for entry to nightclubs, cinemas and sports grounds. On Tuesday, the prime minister will announce plans to try to keep Covid under control over the winter. He will say that he has abandoned the proposed compulsory certification scheme, which would have forced venues to check people’s vaccine status.

Johnson tore up the proposals after scientists said vaccinations would be an effective first line of defence against a winter wave of the pandemic. But the move also represents a significant concession to Tory backbench rebels who had complained that enforcing vaccine passports would create a group of second-class citizens.

18 cases of Eta coronavirus variant confirmed in Japan

TOKYO
Japan has confirmed 18 cases of the Eta variant of the coronavirus, a health ministry tally shows, the first such infections reported in the country.

The variant has been detected in a number of countries since December. The tally as of Sept 3 also showed that the Kappa variant, first detected in India, had been confirmed among 19 people in Japan.

A case of the Kappa variant outside of quarantine was confirmed in Mie Prefecture, central Japan, in June.

Both strains are currently designated as variants of interest by the World Health Organization.

“My area of aptitude [is] physics and calculus, the mathematic language for that.

Physics, and particularly high energy particle physics, is something that I find very fascinating.

I eventually wound up doing some of that later on in life as a nuclear cardiologist.

So, [I’ve done] 53 years of research in physics, and in medicine, I actually developed the inflammation in heart disease theory and presented it to American Heart in 1994.

I joined American Heart in 1976 as the youngest faculty member at that time, and I got put in several standing committees as a result — basic and advanced cardiac life support as well as the physician cholesterol education faculty.

I did a lot of research on dietary influences and factors that are critical, not only for in the end — heart disease — but other chronic inflammatory diseases, be that cerebrovascular diseases, strokes, diabetes or cancer,” Fleming explains.

Standing on Principles of Ethics
Fleming is also a scientific reviewer for more than 16 different journals. He was on the external clinical review board for The Lancet, but quit in protest of the fake hydroxychloroquine article they published — an act I believe demonstrates his dedication to scientific integrity. He also resigned from the British Medical Journal Open Quality due to similar concerns.

“Eventually we either stand behind principles or we acquiesce and become nothing more than the German doctors of Nazi Germany during World War II,” he says.

“And as history showed us, they eventually paid a price at the Nuremberg Trials …

There are people — powers that be — that think that they have things going their direction, but it’s very clear to me that they’re not confident that they’ve got everybody under control. The way in which this is all being handled demonstrates that they’re more worried about the truth coming out than not. And I think they’re worried about the consequences, as they should be.”

Digging Up the Truth
Early on in 2020, Fleming started researching treatment options for SARS-CoV-2 using the Fleming Method, which you can learn more about on flemingmethod.com. Using this method, you can measure how a given intervention works on the tissue level, and how infection or inflammation is responding to the treatment.

He ended up developing 52 treatment combinations, and over the course of that study, the length of hospitalization stays went from five to six weeks down to one to two weeks. But he also learned something else.

“In the process of doing that research, I dug more and more and investigated what was going on, and that led me into the background of the research that many of these people had been doing,” Fleming explains.

“Tens of millions of dollars have been funneled out of the U.S., and Anthony Fauci has helped with that. He’s been on those committees. You can see the grant numbers in the book.”

Is COVID-19 a Bioweapon?
While gain-of-function can be used for benevolent purposes, it can just as easily be used for nefarious ones, “and that’s kind of what you see happening,” Fleming says.

“You see real efforts to produce viruses, coronaviruses, in particular. Spike proteins of coronaviruses to be even more specific, as I show in the book, paid for by the federal government by people who say they were not involved in gain-of-function research.

Well, their fingerprints are on the documents, or on the published papers or on the grants or on the patents. You can’t say that you’re not involved in things when the documents show differently. They show the work and the money that came out of the federal government that went to Peter Daszak at EcoHealth, that went to Ralph Baric at the University of North Carolina, Shi Zhengli at the Wuhan Institute of Virology and other places.

For me, as a researcher, obviously, once I start to investigate something, the only way you can stop me from doing that is to put a bullet in my head. Otherwise, I’m going to stay after it. There are things that are not in the book that are going to come out in international criminal court, things I’m saving for that, because this virus is, by definition, a biological weapon.

It violates the biological weapons convention treaty. You just have to look at the definitions. It provides nothing useful to humanity. It’s dangerous. When Fort Detrick is involved and the Department of Defense is involved … and you see these monies and you see the people that are involved, you realize that … the United States was playing China, China was playing the United States, and you saw who got caught in between. And they’re still playing the game.

For lack of a better term, this book is an indictment. That’s now my attorney hat going on saying that I have provided in this book evidence that I would take to a grand jury … I’m not somebody who is going to give up on having these people dealt with, because all the freedoms that we have lost, and the rights that we have lost as individuals, not to mention just the numbers of people who have died.

My argument is … the reason why they died is because they didn’t get treatment for the inflammation and the blood clotting that I and other doctors have shown works. The ultimate argument is that you can’t kill somebody more than dead … they can’t do worse than kill the patient. And we’ve already seen what doing nothing does. It kills the patient.

At no other time in American history have doctors looked at patients and said, ‘We can’t do anything for you. Go home and come back when you get sicker.’ We have always treated people with breathing problems with medications for breathing problems. We’ve always treated people with clotting problems with medicines to stop the clotting.

And so, the reason why this is so critical to understand is because the same people who were involved in the funding of this bioweapon are the same people who have interfered with doctors providing treatment to patients, and the same people who have been involved in the development of these vaccines.”

While Fleming carefully lays out the evidence in his book, he leaves it up to you, the reader, to decide whether SARS-CoV-2 is a bioweapon or not. However, he says, if you do come to that conclusion (and he believes you will once you’ve seen the evidence), “then you have to recognize that the vaccines are nothing more than the genetic reproduction of that bioweapon.” Hence, the COVID shots are bioweapons too.

Warning to Medical Professionals
If you are a doctor, nurse, pharmacist or other health professional administering these COVID shots, you may be wise to reconsider your participation in this scheme. A significant problem is there’s no way to provide or obtain informed consent. As noted by Fleming:

“If you’re injecting someone with these drug vaccine biologics, you are injecting them with something that you cannot possibly give them informed consent for, which means you’re violating your Hippocratic Oath, you’re violating the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights Treaty, you’re violating the Nuremberg Code, you’re violating the Declaration of Helsinki.

It’s right across the board. It’s not even something that you can pretend doesn’t happen anymore. It’s just in everybody’s faces. And you can see that the powers that be are so stressed out right now that they are cajoling and coercing and manipulating and attacking. My friends in Italy tell me that vaccinated people are behaving in the same way that they did during World War II towards the Jews and the intellectuals.
And let’s remember, the first people Hitler put in concentration camps weren’t the Jews. The first people were the intellectuals, because if you take the intellectuals and the doctors off the street, if you stop people from talking, you can control the people.

So, the pressure being put on the medical community in this country and in countries around the world to simply go along is nothing more than the equivalent of what Adolf Hitler and the SS did during World War II when they rounded up the intellectuals. One [thing] will lead to the next and there’s nothing about this that has been a successful campaign to control an infectious virus …

All you have to do is read the emergency use authorization documents. I’m just stunned at how many people have not read these. I’m stunned at physicians not having read these.”

With that data in hand, Fleming suggests asking yourself some fundamental scientific questions, such as: “Is there any statistical difference in the number of people who developed COVID-19 or died among the vaccinated compared to the unvaccinated?”

The answer provided in the documents is no. There is no statistical difference between the two groups. The vaccines do not statistically reduce COVID-19 infection or death thereof. There are fewer cases in absolute numbers, but statistically there’s no difference. Add to that the risk of side effects. If you take the shot, you risk developing inflammation and blood clotting.

Surgeon General: Biden Admin To ‘Monitor’ Vaccine Exemptions To Ensure They’re Used Properly

The Biden administration is anxious to see their new vaccine regulations, enforced through the Occupational Health and Safety Agency (OSHA), take effect, and they’re pledging to monitor whether those who claim to be exempt from receiving a COVID-19 vaccination are “not abusing” the system, according to Biden administration Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy.

peaking to CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday, Murthy suggested that businesses have welcomed President Joe Biden’s vaccine “mandate,” which uses OSHA’s power to force businesses to take measures to protect the health and safety of employees in “emergency” situations to force businesses with more than 100 employees to mandate their workers receive the COVID-19 vaccine or face rigorous testing.

“A lot of businesses are actually relieved that these are going into place,” Murthy told CNN. “And we’ve heard a lot of feedback from the Business Roundtable and others that this will help create safer workplaces. This is what we’ve got to do to get to the next phase of this pandemic response so that we can get through this and get back to normal once and for all.”

Murthy also suggested that the Biden administration would be keeping close tabs on companies and workers who claimed an exemption from the mandate.

“Unfortunately, as a country, we have experience in dealing with exemptions, but we’ve got to be vigilant there and make sure that people are using them, you know, in the spirit that they’re intended and not abusing them or asking for exemptions when they don’t apply,” Murthy said. “That’s an area that we continue to monitor in the days and weeks ahead.”

Some businesses, particularly those with employees who have religious objections to vaccination, have said they may claim an “exemption” to the administration’s mandate, according to CBS News, though it is not yet clear whether there are legal grounds for such exemptions.

“Many large corporations already require COVID-19 vaccination to keep employees safe from the virus,” CBS said, but noted that “under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, offer exemptions to individuals with either a disability or ‘sincerely held’ religious belief that prevents them from getting the vaccine. ”

“No major religious denomination in the U.S. opposes vaccination outright,” the outlet continued. “But an individual’s ‘sincerely held’ religious belief does not have to be part of an organized-religion mandate to be considered a valid reason for exemption from getting the vaccine.”

Religious exemptions to vaccination mandates have previously held.

Biden claimed, when he announced his new COVID-19 demands on Thursday, that the six-point plan was designed to protect vaccinated workers from the unvaccinated. Biden, who had, earlier, unofficially conceded that vaccine madates were likely unconstitutional, utilized OSHA’s emergency management regulations to institute their “mandate” instead of doing so by executive order.

“The new mandate would affect about 80 million Americans, with about 17 million workers at health facilities also required to get vaccinated,” Fox News estimated.

The mandate, though, is already subject to legal threats and will likely come under legal challenge when OSHA drafts its emergency measure — as it has been directed — sometime this September. Many Republican governors have already told the Biden administration that the intend to file suit against the mandate, and companies — including the Daily Wire — have suggested they will file their own legal challenges.

A New York hospital told Axios earlier this weekend that they intend to “pause” certain procedures, including delivering babies, after staffers resigned over news of the mandate.

“At least six unvaccinated maternity staffers at Lewis County General Hospital have quit. While 165 staffers, or about 27% of the hospital’s workforce, is unvaccinated, CEO Gerald Cayer said at a news briefing,” Axios reported. “The Sept. 25 pause will take place two days before the state’s deadline for health care workers to get the shot.”

“The number of resignations received leaves us no choice but to pause delivering babies at Lewis County General Hospital,” the hospital said.

Panel Of Scientists Determines Most People Don't Need Boosters; Moderna Plummets

As a growing chorus of scientists and activists question the Biden Administration's scramble to roll out booster jabs to Americans as quickly as possible, steamrolling the conventional approval process and leading to the resignation of two senior FDA officials, more research has just been released suggesting booster jabs simply aren't necessary for most people - especially those who have already been vaccinated once.

The finding comes via a report citing the opinions of an all-star panel of scientists from around the world published via the Lancet. Governments would be better served to focus on immunizing the unvaccinated and to wait for more data on which boosters. What's more, it's not yet clear what doses would be most effective according to the authors, a group that includes two prominent US FDA experts.

Shares of Moderna, Pfizer and BioNTech traded lower on the news given that boosters were their key to an annual "cash cow" business.



The scientists' assessment was based on a wide range of real-world observational studies as well as data from clinical trials before the vaccines were approved. "None of the studies has provided credible evidence of substantially declining protection against severe disease," the authors wrote.

The FDA scientists involved were Marion Gruber, who leads the FDA’s Office of Vaccines Research and Review, and her deputy Philip Krause. Both recently announced their plans to step down later this year. Now it's pretty clear that they're perhaps doing so to oppose the booster jab rollout.

The WHO has urged against broad use of boosters, saying it would make better public-health sense to focus on immunizing those who haven’t gotten any shots yet whether because of anti-vaccine sentiment in countries with ample reserves, or because they live in places with little access to shots.

"Even if boosting were eventually shown to decrease the medium-term risk of serious disease, current vaccine supplies could save more lives if used in previously unvaccinated populations," the authors wrote.

What's more, boosters could lead to even more harmful side effects in the population, a phenomenon which isn't well understood, even as cases of heart inflammation have increasingly been tied to mRNA vaccines.

The VAERS website released its most recent weekly numbers on Thursday, September 9th.



There are now 14,701 reported deaths from the COVID vaccine in the United States, according to the latest numbers.

There were 11,405 reported deaths from the COVID vaccine in the United States back on July 24th

And this was up from 9,125 reported deaths from the COVID-19 vaccinations total from earlier in the month in July



The number of deaths linked to the CDC-promoted vaccines this year has absolutely skyrocketed, according to the CDC’s own data.

The VAERS database contains information on unverified reports of adverse events (illnesses, health problems and/or symptoms) following immunization with US-licensed vaccines. The CDC government website links to VAERS platform.

In June, VAERS reported 6,985 deaths due to the COVID vaccines.
Then it jumped to 11,405 in July.

And now it is at 14,701 reported deaths.
That is a jump of 3,296 since July 24th.

This comes out to 70 average deaths per day due to the coronavirus vaccine in the last 47 days.

This needs to stop!

“The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) database contains information on unverified reports of adverse events (illnesses, health problems and/or symptoms) following immunization with US-licensed vaccines. Reports are accepted from anyone and can be submitted electronically at www.vaers.hhs.gov.”

There were over 675,000 adverse reactions reported to the COVID vaccine listed this year.

NEWBERRY, Florida — Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is set to preview Florida’s plan to combat President Joe Biden’s overreaching vaccine mandates on the American people — a move the governor has already blasted as “fundamentally wrong.”

DeSantis is holding a press conference in Newberry, Florida, to formally address President Biden’s plans to force vaccine requirements on the American people — particularly the 78-year-old’s decision to direct the Department of Labor to develop an emergency rule requiring employers with 100 or more employees “to ensure their workforces are fully vaccinated or show a negative test at least once a week.”

“I would just say generally when you’re taking action that’s unconstitutional, that threatens the jobs of the people in my state — many, many thousands of jobs — I’m standing for them,” DeSantis said during an appearance at a veterans’ appreciation event in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, last week.

Additionally, last week, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody (R) vowed to take “any and all action within the authority of my office to stop this unprecedented power grab.”

The press conference is slated to begin at 10:45 a.m. Eastern.

An expert review of scientific evidence to date has concluded that Covid-19 vaccine booster shots are not needed at this time for the general public, a group of leading U.S. and international scientists said Monday in the peer-reviewed journal The Lancet.

The conclusion by scientists, including two senior Food and Drug Administration officials and the World Health Organization, came as studies continue to show the authorized Covid vaccines in the U.S. remain highly effective against severe disease and hospitalization caused by the fast-spreading delta variant.

While Covid vaccine effectiveness against mild disease may wane over time, protection against severe disease may persist, the scientists said. That’s because the body’s immune system is complex, they said, and has other defenses besides antibodies that may protect someone from getting seriously sick.

“Current evidence does not, therefore, appear to show a need for boosting in the general population, in which efficacy against severe disease remains high,” the scientists wrote, adding the wide distribution of boosters is “not appropriate at this stage in the pandemic.”

Booster shots and vaccine mandates: The new plan to beat Covid-19

They acknowledged that booster shots may eventually be needed for the general population if vaccine-induced immunity wanes even further or a new variant emerges that can evade the protection of the shots.

They said there are risks to distributing boosters too soon, including the potential for side effects such as a rare heart inflammation condition known as myocarditis, which is more common after the second dose of mRNA vaccines.

“If unnecessary boosting causes significant adverse reactions, there could be implications for vaccine acceptance that go beyond COVID-19 vaccines,” they wrote.

Shares of Covid vaccine maker BioNTech were down more than 5% in intraday trading.

The comments come a week before the Biden administration says it plans to begin offering Covid vaccine booster shots to the general public. An FDA advisory group is meeting Friday to discuss the data to support the wide use of boosters.

The administration last month cited three new studies, released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, that showed the vaccines’ protection against Covid diminished over several months. The administration’s plan, outlined by senior health officials, calls for a third dose eight months after people get their second shot of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

Scientists and other health experts have repeatedly criticized the plan, saying data the federal health officials cited wasn’t compelling, characterizing the administration’s push for boosters as premature.

The scientists in The Lancet review published Monday include Marion Gruber, director of the FDA’s Office of Vaccines Research and Review, and deputy director Phil Krause. Both officials are departing the FDA this year after they were reportedly frustrated over the agency’s decision to support booster shots.

The scientists said boosting could be appropriate for some individuals, such as those with weakened immune systems, who don’t produce an adequate immune response after receiving two doses of a vaccine.

DeSantis announced cities and counties that force employees to get vaccinated will be fined $5,000 per infraction.

“We are here today to make it very clear that we are going to stand for the men and women who are serving. We are going to protect Florida jobs,” DeSantis said during the news conference. “We are not gonna let people be fired because of a vaccine mandate.”

We need people in restaurants. We have too many Americans still out of work, and this is a simple, effective shot in the arm, if you will, that our economy needs. Constitutional Right to Force Vaccinations on Us?

COMMON SENSE: Leaving aside any medical benefits or detriments that might be involved with injecting the COVID-19 vaccine—a subject about which I’m not qualified to opine—let’s take a look at the legality of Biden’s announced policy of forced immunization. I am qualified to address that issue. The question is this:

Even if Biden was a legitimate President rather than a fraudulent Usurper, would he have the Constitutional right, the legal authority, to require Americans to be vaccinated?

Equally as interesting, if this requirement was genuine and legitimately being enacted for the public good, rather than as a dictatorial step to break the will of the American people, wouldn’t the mandate be for everybody, without exception? This seems logical, doesn’t it? There wouldn’t be any group that is being excluded, but there is one, isn’t there? Nearly 700,000 Postal Workers have been exempted from Biden’s required vaccination. Why would that be?

In my opinion, it is their reward for their sinister role in the 2020 Presidential Election. If not, what other explanation, what other justification, could there be?

That they have been excluded lets us know that what Biden is attempting to accomplish is based on political ends and not the safety of the American people.

If it was based solely on safety, there wouldn’t be any group, especially such a large group, carved out for exemption. Others, including illegals, have also been carved out.

That Biden and those whispering in his ear want to increase their power and authority over the American people, using fear tactics to do so, should be obvious to everyone, but it isn’t. Millions believe Biden’s un-Constitutional pronouncement is for our own good but, even if this was his intent, what would give him the legal justification to abridge your inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?

In my opinion, none. Team Biden has been short of legal justification and long on intimidation. The idea that Americans should be required to prove they’ve been vaccinated for a virus that has a 99% survival rate, before being allowed to shop for groceries and other necessary daily activities, is absurd. It’s also un-Constitutional.

In the USA, there are more than 800,000 registered sex offenders, but none of these deviants are required to carry a card, letting us know they are perverts. The reason why is because it would “violate their privacy.” Yet, Biden is telling us that there is no violation of privacy concerning being vaccinated for COVID-19. If the absurdity of these two contradictory positions doesn’t infuriate you, then you need to retake your high school civics class.

For these reasons and many others, whether or not you have already been vaccinated, it is my belief and conviction that every American should resist the un-Constitutional dictates of the Fool who is occupying the White House, but there are those who disagree. Many Americans support mandatory vaccinations.

Instead of being angry with them, be patient. They just don’t have sense enough to pour piss out of a boot.

President Biden, in announcing his tyrannical crackdown on Americans who’ve not yet been vaccinated against the coronavirus, justified his action by saying his “patience is wearing thin.”

That’s not just pathetic.

That’s everything that’s wrong with the left, with the Democrats, with the socialists and Marxists who’ve taken over the Democratic Party — and most of the media, mind you.

A president has no authority to tell the people of America that his “patience is wearing thin” with them.

A government bureaucrat has no right to express that thought to the citizenry who pay his or her salary.

Who works for whom here, anyway?

“We’ve been patient, but our patience is wearing thin,” Bidensaid in announcing his order for American businesses with more than 100 employees to require COVID-19 vaccines.

“Your refusal has cost all of us,” Biden said, to the unvaccinated.

This is an example of a government pinhead run amok on power.

A parent has the authority to tell a child of “patience” that is “wearing thin.”

An officer of the law has a rightful ability to tell a suspect who’s growing unruly that “patience” is “wearing thin.”

These are all examples of authorities exercising authority — via verbiage that contains a hint of intimidation and carries a tone of threat — to those who are rightfully under their authority.

A parent possesses authority over a child. A teacher possesses authority over a student. A police officer, as a representative of law and order, possesses authority over those who break law and order.

But a politician over people?

No. Wrong. The people possess the authority over the government in America.

The people hold the power — not the government. Not the president.

The fact that Biden even dares to express impatience with the American people shows how scornful he is of the proper interpretation of the Constitution, of the proper role of government-to-citizens, of the rightful relationship of tax-paid public servant and taxpaying employers to the public servants.

Biden didn’t just express a frustrated thought.

He revealed his entire nature — one of arrogance, elitism and condescension.
But we already knew that about Biden, didn’t we?

And just a few months into Biden’s tyrannical administration, our patience is wearing thin.

She's puzzled that people keep saying they are being forced to get the vax. In other words, she's saying you just won't be able to leave your home and go anywhere (your job, school, or shopping) but hey, no one is forcing you or anything. Just stay in your house and never leave and it's all good. You're always given a choice here. Sickening.

The Trafalgar Group, one of the most accurate and reliable pollsters of the last few election cycles, has only terrible news for His Fraudulency Joe Biden and his recently-announced fascist vaccination mandates.

This particular poll comes at a crucial time when the fake media are releasing fake polls to gaslight the public into believing Biden’s fascist mandates are popular. Well, all anyone needs to remember is that Trafalgar gets it right, and corrupt media outlets, like the AP and CNNLOL, deliberately juice their polls to get the outcomes they want.

According to Trafalgar, nearly 60 percent (58.6 percent) of “voters do not believe President Biden has the constitutional authority to force private businesses to require vaccine mandates for employees[.]”

Meanwhile, only 29.7 percent “believe he does have the authority” [emphasis mine], while 11.7 percent don’t know.

In worse news for His Fraudulency, a clear majority of 56.1 percent “support the efforts of state governors to oppose Biden’s nationwide vaccine mandate on private businesses.” Of those 56.1 percent, 46.3% “strongly support” it.

Among swing voters, or Independents, a whopping 68.2 percent “don’t believe President Biden has the constitutional authority to force private businesses to require vaccine mandates for employees,” and only 21 percent disagree.

On the issue of governors opposing Biden’s fascist mandate, a whopping 62.3 percent of Independents support it, and 45 percent strongly support it.

Even 27 percent of Democrats say Biden does not have the authority to push these mandates, and 29.8 percent of Democrats want their governors to oppose these mandates.

It’s no surprise that 83.5 percent of Republicans say Biden lacks the constitutional authority for these mandates, and 78.5 percent want their governors to fight back.

This is terrible news for Biden, coming just four days after he announced these mandates, and did so in an effort to change the conversation away from the fact that he just armed the Taliban with tens of billions of dollars in working U.S. war equipment and handed them hundreds of American hostages.

A big concern of a majority of voters, 55.5 percent, is that a federal national vaccine mandate “sets a precedent that could be abused by future presidents on other issues.” No kidding.

“The numbers are clear, the American people passionately oppose Biden’s vaccine mandate, and will not tolerate a President elected by the people acting like a dictator or king,” said Mark Meckler, President of Convention of States Action, the organization that commission the poll.

He added, “Our citizens stand squarely with courageous, principled governors who know this isn’t about health, science, or compassion, it’s a naked political power grab.”

Trafalgar reports that this poll of 1,000 likely voters was taken between September 10 and 12.

As far as the fake polls coming from the fake media, they don’t matter. What matters is what voters really think, and this here is what they really think. And keep in mind that a lot of the same people opposed to these mandates are pro-vaccine — including me.

The vaccine isn’t the issue here. What’s an issue is forcing people to have a medical procedure performed on them against their will. What’s at issue is a failing president and his butt-boy media going the full-Hitler in identifying the unvaccinated as only Trump voters and then demonizing those people as diseased and dangerous.

If you overeat, it doesn’t affect my diet.

If you don’t get the vaccine, it doesn’t affect my vaccine.

I hope everyone gets vaccinated, and I believe the death rate of the vaccinated versus the unvaccinated is as compelling as it gets, but that’s your choice. Not mine, and not Joe Biden’s.

Our Most Reliable Pandemic Number Is Losing Meaning

A new study suggests that almost half of those hospitalized with COVID-19 have mild or asymptomatic cases.

At least 12,000 Americans have already died from COVID-19 this month, as the country inches through its latest surge in cases. But another worrying statistic is often cited to depict the dangers of this moment: The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in the United States right now is as high as it has been since the beginning of February. It’s even worse in certain places: Some states, including Arkansas and Oregon, recently saw their COVID hospitalizations rise to higher levels than at any prior stage of the pandemic. But how much do those latter figures really tell us?

From the start, COVID hospitalizations have served as a vital metric for tracking the risks posed by the disease. Last winter, this magazine described it as “the most reliable pandemic number,” while Vox quoted the cardiologist Eric Topol as saying that it’s “the best indicator of where we are.” On the one hand, death counts offer finality, but they’re a lagging signal and don’t account for people who suffered from significant illness but survived. Case counts, on the other hand, depend on which and how many people happen to get tested.

Presumably, hospitalization numbers provide a more stable and reliable gauge of the pandemic’s true toll, in terms of severe disease. But a new, nationwide study of hospitalization records, released as a preprint today (and not yet formally peer reviewed), suggests that the meaning of this gauge can easily be misinterpreted—and that it has been shifting over time.

If you want to make sense of the number of COVID hospitalizations at any given time, you need to know how sick each patient actually is. Until now, that’s been almost impossible to suss out. The federal government requires hospitals to report every patient who tests positive for COVID, yet the overall tallies of COVID hospitalizations, made available on various state and federal dashboards and widely reported on by the media, do not differentiate based on severity of illness.

Some patients need extensive medical intervention, such as getting intubated. Others require supplemental oxygen or administration of the steroid dexamethasone. But there are many COVID patients in the hospital with fairly mild symptoms, too, who have been admitted for further observation on account of their comorbidities, or because they reported feeling short of breath. Another portion of the patients in this tally are in the hospital for something unrelated to COVID, and discovered that they were infected only because they were tested upon admission. How many patients fall into each category has been a topic of much speculation. In August, researchers from Harvard Medical School, Tufts Medical Center, and the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System decided to find out.

Researchers have tried to get at similar questions before. For two separate studies published in May, doctors in California read through several hundred charts of pediatric patients, one by one, to figure out why, exactly, each COVID-positive child had been admitted to the hospital. Did they need treatment for COVID, or was there some other reason for admission, like cancer treatment or a psychiatric episode, and the COVID diagnosis was merely incidental? According to the researchers, 40 to 45 percent of the hospitalizations that they examined were for patients in the latter group.

The authors of the paper out this week took a different tack to answer a similar question, this time for adults. Instead of meticulously looking at why a few hundred patients were admitted to a pair of hospitals, they analyzed the electronic records for nearly 50,000 COVID hospital admissions at the more than 100 VA hospitals across the country. Then they checked to see whether each patient required supplemental oxygen or had a blood oxygen level below 94 percent. (The latter criterion is based on the National Institutes of Health definition of “severe COVID.”) If either of these conditions was met, the authors classified that patient as having moderate to severe disease; otherwise, the case was considered mild or asymptomatic.

The study found that from March 2020 through early January 2021—before vaccination was widespread, and before the Delta variant had arrived—the proportion of patients with mild or asymptomatic disease was 36 percent. From mid-January through the end of June 2021, however, that number rose to 48 percent. In other words, the study suggests that roughly half of all the hospitalized patients showing up on COVID-data dashboards in 2021 may have been admitted for another reason entirely, or had only a mild presentation of disease.

This increase was even bigger for vaccinated hospital patients, of whom 57 percent had mild or asymptomatic disease. But unvaccinated patients have also been showing up with less severe symptoms, on average, than earlier in the pandemic: The study found that 45 percent of their cases were mild or asymptomatic since January 21. According to Shira Doron, an infectious-disease physician and hospital epidemiologist at Tufts Medical Center, in Boston, and one of the study’s co-authors, the latter finding may be explained by the fact that unvaccinated patients in the vaccine era tend to be a younger cohort who are less vulnerable to COVID and may be more likely to have been infected in the past.

Among the limitations of the study is that patients in the VA system are not representative of the U.S. population as a whole, as they include few women and no children. (Still, the new findings echo those from the two pediatric-admissions studies.) Also, like many medical centers, the VA has a policy to test every inpatient for COVID, but this is not a universal practice. Lastly, most of the data—even from the patients admitted in 2021—derive from the phase of the pandemic before Delta became widespread, and it’s possible that the ratios have changed in recent months. The study did run through June 30, however, when the Delta wave was about to break, and it did not find that the proportion of patients with moderate to severe respiratory distress was trending upward at the end of the observation period.

The idea behind the study and what it investigates is important, says Graham Snyder, the medical director of infection prevention and hospital epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, though he told me that it would benefit from a little more detail and nuance beyond oxygenation status. But Daniel Griffin, an infectious-disease specialist at Columbia University, told me that using other metrics for severity of illness, such as intensive-care admissions, presents different limitations. For one thing, different hospitals use different criteria for admitting patients to the ICU.

One of the important implications of the study, these experts say, is that the introduction of vaccines strongly correlates with a greater share of COVID hospital patients having mild or asymptomatic disease. “It’s underreported how well the vaccine makes your life better, how much less sick you are likely to be, and less sick even if hospitalized,” Snyder said. “That’s the gem in this study.”

“People ask me, ‘Why am I getting vaccinated if I just end up in the hospital anyway?’” Griffin said. “But I say, ‘You’ll end up leaving the hospital.’” He explained that some COVID patients are in for “soft” hospitalizations, where they need only minimal treatment and leave relatively quickly; others may be on the antiviral drug remdesivir for five days, or with a tube down their throat. One of the values of this study, he said, is that it helps the public understand this distinction—and the fact that not all COVID hospitalizations are the same.

But the study also demonstrates that hospitalization rates for COVID, as cited by journalists and policy makers, can be misleading, if not considered carefully. Clearly many patients right now are seriously ill. We also know that overcrowding of hospitals by COVID patients with even mild illness can have negative implications for patients in need of other care. At the same time, this study suggests that COVID hospitalization tallies can’t be taken as a simple measure of the prevalence of severe or even moderate disease, because they might inflate the true numbers by a factor of two. “As we look to shift from cases to hospitalizations as a metric to drive policy and assess level of risk to a community or state or country,” Doron told me, referring to decisions about school closures, business restrictions, mask requirements, and so on, “we should refine the definition of hospitalization. Those patients who are there with rather than from COVID don’t belong in the metric.”
