Maybe I missed this somewhere, (if so I am sorry for repeating) but doesn't the existence of cases popping up in lots of VERY WARM countries throw out the fallacy that this will end when the temps get warmer?
inquiring minds and all............

A few of us here suspected that would be the case from way back....

Have you ever in all your lifetime seen governments around the world doing what they are doing before for a flu bug? Have you ever seen cities of millions of people being locked down with mass quarantines? Have you ever seen countries literally destroy there economies to try to escape a flu bug during a time of economic slowdown?

Neither have I. What do they fear that is greater than the civil unrest, disruptions and economic mayhem resulting from their actions? What if the death toll in China is 10x or 100x the reported numbers? What if the other governments around the world realize this as well? Things are not as they seem and they are lying to us enmasse.

If you have another logical explanation I’m all ears. And if it’s a global conspiracy then every government around the world is in on it including governments that hate each other. As we’ve said often around here don’t pay attention to what they say, pay attention to what they do.
Yep...watch what they say, not what they do.......

Coronavirus impacting daily life across the US and around the world
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Monday that Rick Cotton, head of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, has tested positive for COVID-19, and will be working from home. He said that Cotton’s staff will also undergo testing.
Cuomo himself said he has not been tested, but that he could've had contact with Cotton at some point.
"You want to prioritize who you test because you're looking for the positive," Cuomo said. "I am not a probable positive -- you are looking to test the probable positive."
CORONAVIRUS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Cuomo made the announcement after unveiling New York state-made hand sanitizer and cleaning solution which he said was stronger than those currently available on the market. The sanitizer is being produced by Corcraft, which is run by the Divison of Correctional Industries. An official said inmates at Great Meadow Correctional Facility were producing the product.

We’re hearing from local governments that acquiring hand sanitizer has been a real problem.

NYS will immediately begin producing hand sanitizer ourselves — 100,000 gallons per week. We'll provide it to government agencies, schools, the MTA, prisons, & others. #COVID19

Cuomo also said the number of COVID-19 cases in the state had risen to 142, surpassing the number of confirmed illnesses in Washington state. The majority of cases have occurred in Westchester county where several schools have closed in an effort to stifle the outbreak.

Officials said they were working on a decision regarding closing public schools surrounding the outbreak hotspot in accordance with CDC guidance to prevent further spread of the outbreak.

Presumed positive in Frisco, Tx...That's where I was on the floor of the hospital last month. This thing is getting a little too close for comfort! Also, one of my training colleagues revealed to me that she lives in Houston and drives back down there every weekend or 2 and that the rodeos going on for the next few months.

WASHINGTON (Mar 09, 2020) -

The American College of Cardiology has made the difficult and unprecedented decision to cancel the ACC's Scientific Session Together with World Congress of Cardiology (ACC.20/WCC) scheduled to take place March 28-30, 2020 in Chicago.
The decision to cancel ACC's flagship annual event was not taken lightly. The College has been closely monitoring updates and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as state and local governments. In the last week, the College also learned of the increasing number of travel advisories and restrictions being placed on health care providers and hospitals and institutions in the U.S. and globally.
"The health, safety and well-being of our members, staff, exhibitors, faculty and other stakeholders is of paramount importance," said ACC President Richard J. Kovacs, MD, FACC. "With an ever-increasing number of ACC members on the front lines of preparing and reacting to the COVID-19 outbreak, it is in the best interest of everyone to cancel the meeting and ensure our members are able to do what they do best – help and heal."
Please note the following important points for registered media:
  • ACC.20/WCC media registrations remain valid and will grant registered media access to the virtual presentation options that will be announced in the coming days.
  • More information on web-based press conferences scheduled for March 11 and March 17 will be distributed along with information on virtual content.
  • Existing embargoes and plans for simultaneous publications remain in place and are subject to the existing embargo policies.
  • ACC has prepared an initial FAQ document to help with answering travel, refund and other questions for attendees. This document will continue to be updated.
A meeting the size of ACC.20/WCC is years in the making and involves hundreds of member volunteers and staff, as well as generous support from partners and stakeholders and close collaboration with our host city. The ACC would like to recognize all of these individuals, particularly ACC.20/WCC Chair Andrew Kates, MD, FACC, and Vice-Chair Pamela Morris, MD, FACC, as well as World Heart Federation President Karen Sliwa, MD, Phd, FACC, WHF President-Elect Fausto Pinto, MD ,FACC, and WHF CEO Jean Luc Eisele and his team, for all of their work.
Preparing for COVID-19
The College is fully committed to helping all health professionals who treat cardiovascular patients prepare for COVID-19. ACC has issued and updated the clinical bulletin addressing the cardiac implications of the novel Wuhan Coronavirus (COVID-19). The original clinical bulletin was issued in February.
The updated resource, COVID-19 Clinical Guidance for the Cardiovascular Care Team, provides an overview of COVID-19 and outlines what's currently known from the published literature about the acute cardiac complication of COVID-19 and its implications for patients with underlying cardiovascular conditions. It also includes clinical guidance given current COVID-19 uncertainty, as well as recommendations for cardiac-specific preparedness.
Among the recommendations:
  • Make plans for quickly identifying and isolating cardiovascular patients with COVID-19 symptoms from other patients, including in the ambulatory setting
  • It is reasonable to advise all cardiovascular patients of the potential increased risk and to encourage additional, reasonable precautions in accordance with CDC guidance
  • It is important for patients with CVD to remain current with vaccinations, including the pneumococcal vaccine given the increased risk of secondary bacterial infection with COVID-19; CVD patients should be vaccinated against influenza in accordance with current ACC/AHA guidelines
  • In geographies with active COVID-19 outbreaks, it may be reasonable to substitute telephonic or telehealth visits for in-person routine visits for stable CVD patients to avoid possible nosocomial COVID-19 infection; planning for emergency telehealth protocols should begin now
  • For patients with heart failure or volume overload conditions, copious fluid administration for viral infection should be used cautiously and carefully monitored
  • General immunological health remains important for both providers and patients, including eating well, sleeping and managing stress
Read the complete update.
The American College of Cardiology envisions a world where innovation and knowledge optimize cardiovascular care and outcomes. As the professional home for the entire cardiovascular care team, the mission of the College and its 54,000 members is to transform cardiovascular care and to improve heart health. The ACC bestows credentials upon cardiovascular professionals who meet stringent qualifications and leads in the formation of health policy, standards and guidelines. The College also provides professional medical education, disseminates cardiovascular research through its world-renowned JACC Journals, operates national registries to measure and improve care, and offers cardiovascular accreditation to hospitals and institutions. I sincerely hope you don't count me among that number. I know that I am not as concerned as some are on this thread, but for the most part, I don't think that anybody's concerns are silly, unserious, or even necessarily unwise. This is a serious thing, and my concern is that people will go off the rails out of sheer panic and expectation of a doom that they sometimes themselves are generating. I want people to make solid choices, not strike at things in a panic.

So I have poked at the math a bit, and pondered openly just how good the reporting is on what we're being told. I wonder about who's agenda is being served, especially if it isn't serving that of myself and those I call friends. These things are important long-term, once we ride through the other side of the storm.

I have my own grave concerns about this virus. My mother starts chemo this week. In the middle of viral outbreak known to take out the elderly and compromised. You damn betcha I'm worried about this C19 bug, and frankly I'd like the country to NOT go on lockdown if it doesn't really have to...
Have mum and you look into Chaga. Capsules and tea.

Only worry about what you can control!
Corona Virus in the warm climates.... Transmission compared to Influenza to understand why there are some cases in the warmer climates now.

For example, the NIS study reported that equatorial regions can experience not only year-round transmission (such as in Colombia) but also distinct one-time annual epidemics (such as in Fortaleza, Brazil) or spikes twice a year (such as in Singapore).
"In other tropical areas, influenza epidemics correlate with the rainy season, when [ambient humidity] is highest, such as Dakar, Senegal, or Belem, Brazil," it stated.
In major South-East Asian cities, flu transmission was similar to other colder areas, said Professor Cheng.
"They do tend to have an all-year-round transmission which is more a tropical pattern of influenza," he said.
Dr Griffin said this was due to a few things: "There are other factors there, like people coming and going quite a bit, the actual density of population, [combined] with the vaccine uptake not being quite as good as other areas."

Ironically, in South America, the rainy season coincides with summer, which in turn aligns with winter in North America and Europe. The wet season in South America extends from January through March, which also brings the warmest temperatures to most regions in the area, especially along the coast

So there you have it: although we have similar rates of cold and flu infection, we get them at different times of the year.
And although the tropical lifestyle certainly has its upsides, lower rates of cold and flu is not one of them.

I'd say its not VERY WARM in Tehran right now...and hasn't been: https://www.accuweather.com/en/ir/tehran/210841/march-weather/210841

or Milan Italy: https://www.accuweather.com/en/it/milan/214046/march-weather/214046

So there's that. They have seasons too.

Not to be argumentative or anything.......

Pride comes before the fall.....Pride month ended.
Just for some perspective - -

In an average year about 63 people die per day in Italy from the regular flu. Obviously most of those die in the winter months.
In an average year about 50 die per day in the USA from the regular flu. Again obviously most of those deaths occur in the winter months.
And if the math holds true, thousands a day will be dieing, for a while......with hundreds of thousands laid up. Then the second and third waves.....that may take a heavier toll than the first and attack younger folks in those rounds, that's the perspective I see in my rear view mirror in the coming months. Not to mention all the dominoes falling in every direction simultaneously..........mad max does ring likely.

About an hour ago, I received notice that our Coast Guard Auxiliary spring training conference (scheduled for end of March) has been cancelled. They didn't give a reason why yet, but I'm suspecting it's because of Covid19. Our District extends from Duluth MN, covering northern Wisconsin, the entire Upper Peninsula of Michigan, eastern lower Michigan, and part of northwest Ohio over to Marblehead. People drive and fly in from all over the District to attend these conferences.

BUSES??!! It's not just the population which is immunologically naive. They had damn well better not bus people to Texas and/or Georgia. They did say flights, and I am hoping that tx and ga are included in 'flights'. Bloody hell.
