CHAT What are you up to this evening? I’m watching a classic film

Buick Electra

TB2K Girls with Guns
Background To Danger (1943), George Raft/Sydney Greenstreet. The first 8 minutes give you insight into how the United States starts wars, even though they use the Nazi's in this one.

I watched Ice Station Zebra (1968), Ernest Borgnine/Rock Hudson/Patrick McGoohan/Jim Brown earlier today. Really enjoy that movie!

Tonight we started the entire Lord of the Rings (extended version of Peter Jackson’s epic version) movie. We’ve got the first trilogy in a boxed dvd set, as well as the digital version on our Vudu account.

We’ll continue thru the entire set, and then watch The Hobbit trilogy. We watch the set at least three to four times a year.

Live Free & Die Free.... God Freedom Country....
I have been watching all of the different Sherlock Holmes movies as time permits.

Currently watching "Fallout" which is entertaining and worth the time, but some will not have the same opinion.

Texican....

Ad eundum quo nemo ante iit...
2001 A Space Odyssey

I saw it in its original theatrical release back in 1968. I was ten years old. That movie awakened within me a lifelong love of science fiction. I’ve been all over the universe, taken on those journeys by the greats of the genre.
Badass movie, still after all these years...

My movie choice tonight was "The Gauntlet" (1977)... Clint Eastwood and Sondra Locke... an atypical role for Clint...

Love those!!
We watched our entire set last year but I’d watch them all over again!
I think I’ve seen all 2-3 tines.

Life is better in flip flops
Thankfully I was asleep when Dennis started this thread last night. I don't seem to sleep much anymore. Anyone else having that issue? We had a house full of family over for dinner yesterday evening - not planned - it just worked out that way. It's a good thing I had a roast with potatoes in the crockpot and homemade yeast rolls and everyone got fed.
We don't watch alot of TV series or movies either but within this past year we did watch seasons of Murdoch Mysteries.

I saw 2001 A Space Odyssey last night on the Dish guide, after my shift ended, while I was flipping through the channels. But it was mostly over by the time I settled into my room.
I probably would have watched it. I too like like sci fi space films. For somebody who likes the wilderness and old school stuff as much I do, and really don’t like new tech, I always found it odd that I like Space Science Fiction movies as much as I do.

Any way, Im up north, helping keep the oil flowing…..my evenings for a couple more weeks.

DD and I have been watching E.R. at night. She loves it lol. Now if they would just stream Chicago Hope. I adored Mandy Patinkin in that.

My uncle, the true movie lover in our family said that 2001 and Gunga Din were the 2 best movies ever made. I couldn't get through either one of them.

I did a little internet genealogy research and went to bed early. I got plenty of good rest.

I have been watching "Yellowstone" with Kevin Costner. Up to season 5. Pretty good. Like the scenery the best. I have always told anyone local (western Pa.) that if you are going to make one trip out west, go to Yellowstone National Park.

I was researching the movement of different maternal haplogroups before, during and after the Ice Age in Europe.
Haha...got my "23 and Me" results back.

My maternal line started off in Europe, then "wintered over" the last Ice Age on the Iberian Peninsula with the Neanderthals, but since I apparently have less Neanderthal blood than 90% of the population alive today, guessing we didn't like 'em very much. Knowing the women in my family, we may have had a good hand in their extinction.
Then after the thaw, moved back up north to the British Isles and Scandinavia.

So there ya go.

Basil Rathbone was IMO the “only true” Holmes, just like Sean Connery was the “only true” James Bond.

And I read that Rathbone only did 8 of those movies.
Agreed, next up in the black and white era would be Ronald Howard, if he had been given a chance on the Silver Screen. His talents and portrayal were wasted on the tv series.

The Ranch house, Barn and all where they shoot is not far from where we live.
Hehe. My wife asked me if we could go there some time and see it. I said “Why? I seen it already, dont need waste my time to go” She said “When?”
“Every episode on the TV its right there”

Its in Darby, Montana

Having a wonderful dinner made by SIL and watching via the internet as a anti Israel pro Palestine demonstration and occupation of a university building at CalPoly Humboldt in Arcata California.

Sadly two teens were swept away in the Trinity River on the reservation in Hoopa and a California Highway Patrol Helicopter was diverted from the rescue search to fly over the Cal Poly Humboldt Campus.

The university was closed for today because of the protests.
