Are you meaning you were told you couldn't vote today in your primary?
I can confirm in Missouri at our polling stations, you can't wear inside clothing of support for a candidate.
I know this because I didn't know the rules back in 2016 and wore a Ted Cruz t-shirt inside. A Dem and a Repub county official helping both came to me together and asked me to either flip it inside out or put a jacket on, or leave and come back. Another girl poll worker who knew me gave me her sweater and I put it on and buttoned it up so I can go vote.
So now I only wear patriotic clothes to vote.... like I did today.

It's sounding like she meant to say "I'm sorry but you'll have to remove your hats as they specifically endorse a candidate - and political materials are not allowed in the voting area."

As she worded it, she said it according to HER point of political view. You are her enemy, after all.

If she had a gun, she might have shot you. She does want you dead.

Grey human is perhaps the best policy. What if there were Black Panthers outside the polling place looking for trouble - and you can be pretty sure the police will not see what they do to you. And you can be pretty certain the Poll Watcher (or whatever she was) WOULDN'T see it.

Take these women to court for violating your constitutional right to vote for a candidate of your liking, you can fine then $500 each, they will not like that. Think of it a lead by example.

Your not going to vote with the hat.
So.
1. To vote ditch the hat.
2. Want to stink things up . Keep the hat, but don't vote.
Very simple choice

We voted today in a Tiny Town nobody wore anything inside the polling place but there was a repeal the 1945 petition guy set up on the corner with a table to sign. There were Trump signs every kind of candidate sign everything was all along the street in front of the polling place everywhere

Here in Ohio. one of THE MOST IMPORTANT pieces of equipment in the box that goes to the Polling Place is the set of 6 US flags. People are allowed to actively distribute campaign literature OUTSIDE the second flag but not closer to the polling place. People voting must not display ANYTHING Campaign related inside the third flag.

And EVERYONE THERE as Poll Watchers etc will make SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THAT.

In essence, in Ohio, your Trump Hat would have been a violation of the law. And THAT is absolutely not new. It was true 40 yrs ago as well.

If they were told "You need to remove the hats as no Party or Candidate Affiliation is Allowed" [[Like the 'No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service" sign.]] no issue but it sounds like they did like CNN and changed the wording slightly to skew people into thinking what they want them to think and not Vote.

She may have said it like that to piss you off and not question her authority. Like Dobbin said they'd prefer that us Trump supporters were dead.

There should be nothing on your person,
nothing on your vehicles, and nothing in your yard,
indicating what your political affiliations are.

PERIOD

This is 2020, probably the worst year in all of ZUSA history,
not 1957, the most best year in all of ZUSA history,
a much better ZUSA, that is never ever going to return, never.

Please be safe everyone. The end arrived on May 25th,
with the martyrdom of the POS Saint George Floyd.

Regards to all.

I often work elections here in Alaska, and any person with an article of clothing with political statements etc. would be asked to remove them past the signs outside that prohibit political materials of any nature or party. If you have a bumper sticker on your car and park closer than the signs, we would have to ask you to move. Not personal. The lady you talked to may have made it personal, but that is her failing- if you want to vote, just take off the hats, leave them outside the posted polling area , vote, and go back and put them back on. Good for you for voting!

Minnesota's restrictions were shot down a couple years ago by the US Supreme Court. I need to do my online election judge training and see what's happening this year.

Supreme Court says Minnesota ban on political apparel in polling places too broad

By
Robert Barnes
June 14, 2018 at 10:21 a.m. CDT
The Supreme Court on Thursday struck down Minnesota’s ban on wearing “political” apparel to polling places, saying that the state’s intentions may be good but that its law was too broad and open to differing interpretations.

The 7-to-2 decision, written by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., was careful not to cast constitutional doubt on restrictions every state imposes to protect the solemnity of the voting booth.
But Minnesota’s prohibition on the wearing of a “political badge, political button or other political insignia” raised more questions than it answered, Roberts wrote, and gave too much discretion to volunteer election judges trying to figure out what counted as “political” and what did not.

“The state must be able to articulate some sensible basis for distinguishing what may come in from what must stay out,” Roberts wrote. “Here, the unmoored use of the term ‘political’ in the Minnesota law, combined with haphazard interpretations the state has provided in official guidance and representations to this court, cause Minnesota’s restriction to fail even this forgiving test.”
Justices come armed with what-ifs in polling place case
The Supreme Court decided 25 years ago that states could ban electioneering and distributing campaign materials within 100 feet of polling places, and all states have restrictions.

But Minnesota and nine other states go further. Minnesota’s clothing and button ban has been interpreted to include the names of political parties, candidates, support for or opposition to a ballot question; materials designed to influence voting; and the promotion of groups with recognizable political views, such as unions and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

On Election Day 2010, Andrew Cilek, executive director of the Minnesota Voters Alliance, was stopped at the polls for wearing a tea party T-shirt and a button saying, “Please I.D. Me.” (The button issue has dropped out of the case.)
Cilek was told that he could not vote without covering up or losing the T-shirt. Eventually, he was allowed to vote.
At the oral argument, the justices peppered Minnesota’s lawyers with hypotheticals about what would and would not be allowed, and Roberts replayed the “riddles” he said state lawyers struggled to answer:

“A shirt declaring ‘All Lives Matter,’ we are told, could be ‘perceived’ as political. How about a shirt bearing the name of the National Rifle Association? Definitely out. That said, a shirt displaying a rainbow flag could be worn ‘unless there was an issue on the ballot’ that ‘related somehow . . . to gay rights.’ A shirt simply displaying the text of the Second Amendment? Prohibited. But a shirt with the text of the First Amendment? ‘It would be allowed.’ ”

The court majority seemed to approve of laws in California and Texas, provided as examples of how states may regulate in the area. California’s law bans displays of a “candidate’s name, likeness or logo,” for example.
But the court was reluctant to answer every question “or pass on the constitutionality of laws that are not before us.”

Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Stephen G. Breyer dissented, partly because of the route the case took. The challengers went to federal court with their complaint, alleging it violated their free speech rights.
Sotomayor wrote that the Supreme Court should have first given the Minnesota Supreme Court a chance to interpret the law. That might have provided clearer guidance for election judges on what the law covered.

All justices agreed that states may impose restrictions on speech at polling places.
“Casting a vote is a weighty civic act, akin to a jury’s return of a verdict, or a representative’s vote on a piece of legislation,” Roberts wrote. “It is a time for choosing, not campaigning. The state may reasonably decide that the interior of the polling place should reflect that distinction.”
The case is Minnesota Voters Alliance v. Mansky.

No political signage/etc within x feet of a polling place. The hats probably fall under that guideline. Go toss them in your vehicle and go back in. Someone is being anal.

Ah, voting at the nudist colony. Wouldn't want to have a politically motivated tattoo, because then you'd have to stop by the house to pick up an article of clothing!

So a hat is "campaign" material? Didn't know that.
Yes it is.
So are T-shirts, etc. Anything that is political at all.
I worked as a Republican poll watcher one year.
You'd be surprised what you can't say or do, even if voters in line ask you.
I saw more than a couple people turned away for wearing things that mentioned a candidate. I looked for Democrat crap and the Dem Poll watcher looked out for Repub crap.
Bryon just put your MAGA hat back in your car and go right back in and vote.

I also worked outside polling stations carrying Republican signs and waving at people. Here in Florida you must stay 150 feet away from the entrance to a polling station. Just my Trump sign.
I'll get another after the primary is over.

Oh, and someone stole my Trump sign from my yard over the weekend. They didn't touch the 6 other state and county Repub signs in my yard.

No electioneering in NC within x feet of the polling place. Has been that way since I got here. She may have been Karen about how she told you but if IT'S THE LAW then thar it be. Learn the law before you file suit :D

Four years ago, I went to primary voting wearing a Trump teeshirt and I had to turn the teeshirt inside out before I could vote. It was some sort of rule they have.
