An asymmetric halo coronal mass ejection (CME) is confirmed following the X1.0 solar flare around AR 3664 this morning at 05:09 UTC (May 8th). A passage past Earth should be expected within the next 48-72 hours and it could lead to a geomagnetic storm

I’ve been trying to keep count. Does this make 6 x-class flares, now? In something like 6 days or so? it’s been 21 years since the series of 11 in October, November 2003, with that huge one on November 4.

There are almost constant M class flares coming in from region 3664 and 3663

A filament miss can still cause problems here on earth. The 2011 Fukushima quake was on the heals of a filament miss.

What's the conversion for Zulu time?
ETA: Looks like given a Zulu time, subtract 5 hours and you get CST. Given CST, add 5 hours.

This explains the ear tones! Any idea which side of the earth it’ll hit? Saw on the news yesterday that comms were down in most of India, china, and eastern Russia early yesterday morning.Four now on the way.

The majority of the members here only read the first page of "new posts" which is something like ten threads. If they don't want to take the time to check out the other forums here at TBK then that's their problem, not mine. | AR 3664 does it again with a long duration X2.2 solar flare peaking at 09:13 UTC (May 9). Coronal dimming is already evident meaning this flare will likely be the source of a fourth Earth directed CME. The geomagnetic storm watch for this weekend was upgraded to the Strong (G3) level and this latest event could add even more fuel to the storm. Aurora sky watchers rejoice, it may be a great weekend!
