On April 25th 1915, the forces of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps landed at Gallipoli with a goal of opening a passage to the Black Sea. Ottoman forces forces led by Mustafa Kemal (Ataturk) were dug in an put up fierce resistance. The initially expected quick battle led to an 8 month stalemate with great casualties on both sides. The allied armies were withdrawn at the end of 1915 having lost over 56,000 soldiers, including 8709 Australians and 2721 New Zealanders.

ANZAC Day, April 25th, is the national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand for all those who have fallen in war.

LEST WE FORGET.

Thanks for posting.

While I like Churchill, he took a hit on that one, it was his plan, and so many lost their lives over it.
The Boer War was NOT a good training ground for The Great War, and especially, both land and enemies that the Empire faced. Bad intel can have catastrophic results…
