Several months ago I learned of an unusual antiseptic which was given high praise by those using it.
It consists of 30% acetone in water.
Some persons use 100% acetone, both work about the same.
This antiseptic appears not to interfere with the healing ability so that wounds heal fast, but not quite as fast as for sterile first intention healing.
Halogen family antiseptics do interfere and cause delayed healing.
It can be used for all cuts and such. The process is to dab it on. let stand a few seconds and dab it dry with tissue and put a bandaid or porous paper tape on the wound.
It stings but not nearly as much as iodine. It appears to be able to stop bacteria rapidly, even those in infected wounds.
I am told that acetone is a natural byproduct of some animal metabolism so it is not a truly alien compound, which may account for its lack of known bad effects.
It has been tried for gum disease and tooth decay problems. It worked. For deep gum problems Acetone acted faster but soda and peroxide had a longer lasting result.
I have tried it several times and it works well on cuts, boils and pimples etc. Haven't had anyone attack me with a machette yet so can't say what it might do for that type wound. For the larger ones I trust procaine penicillin G straight into the wound as a surface treatment. It heals well. Too well for puncture wounds, which need to drain for a day or two.
Those of experimental nack, or those looking for a very easy to obtain survival antiseptic, might give it a try.
I used Wall mart acetone at about $8 per gallon. A 4 oz bottle of the 30% mixture lasts for months of this and that useage. Do keep it in a tightly stoppered bottle, for the acetone is quite volatile, even in water solution.
