Permacul YouTube: Cheap fill for Raised Garden Beds

You can also get them from Gardeners Supply. We built our own and filled them with a mix of wood chips (free from neighbor who has a tree business) and compost.

As they settle we top them off with a combination of the above. Works pretty good and very easy to weed.

After building our 36" high beds, we filled the bottom third with old firewood, small limbs and cut grasses that were in a pile. Nothing we grow has 3' roots and the beds are working well.

Fire rings are all the rage here. I bought 2 and sprayed them on the outside with copper spray paint. I used round grow bags to line them until they rot through and integrate with the soil below. They aren't terribly deep but are good for squash to cascade over onto the lawn.

I can't have a compost pile under my HOAA. So every year I have to buy additional soil to add to the existing soil. It seems to compact or shrink or something.

Vermicomposting on the sly?

Yeah, plants "eat" soil, so it has to be constantly replenished. In nature it's leaves from trees and dead grass.

My preferred method is municipal mulch and manure from my birds mixed and left to sit and mellow. I also have access to horse manure by the tonne if I want it.

Edit: all misspellings are thanx to over-exuberant cuddle cat.

He gives a link for you to buy them in the US

There is a similar brand made in USA. I have a couple small ones on backorder and will report. Wood doesn't do well in the Arizona 9B sun and heat, so I thought I'd try something sturdier.

I really enjoy the Self Sufficient Me YouTube channel. The host, Mark Valencia, also has a blog:
