With Bush on 9/11

Published: July 9, 2004

To the Editor:

Re "Moore's Public Service," by Paul Krugman (column, July 2 -- http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F30911FF3A5C0C718CDDAE0894DC404482):

I am not sure where Paul Krugman and Michael Moore were on 9/11, but I was with President Bush for almost two hours.

As commander of the 8th Air Force, I was present when President Bush stopped to deliver a message to the American people at Barksdale Air Force Base.

Throughout my career, I have seen the best and the worst of people under extreme pressure. President Bush arrived at Barksdale deeply saddened and obviously concerned, but he was a man on a mission, courageous and decisive. He was totally in command.

I have kept relatively quiet about my experiences with the president on 9/11, but I cannot sit back and allow Hollywood and the media to rewrite history. I was there, and I consider myself a good judge of leadership. We were fortunate that President Bush was our commander in chief on 9/11.

Thanks for posting this. It's easy to forget the whole truth when there are so many half truths being passed around.

My thanks to Lieutenant General Thomas J. Keck giving his perspective of the fateful day of 9/11. It may or may not be how President Bush conducted himself but it is how this one high official percieved the state of Bush on that day. It's refreshing to see all sides of the story as it unfolded.

an armchair general and a grade school teacher vouch for W? OK, i'm convinced. :kk2:

Why not?

A fat ass, America-hating socialist pig makes a "documentary" :kk2: and all the Bush-haters just about have a simultaneous orgasm.

 He's much more credible...

Personally, I'll believe the "arm-chair general" and the schoolteacher every day of the week before I believe some of the other agenda-driven, BS sources...

Armchair General?

I don't think so:

A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1969, the general is a command pilot with more than 4,600 flying hours, including 886 combat hours. He has flown operational tours in the A-10, B-1, B-52, RC-135, U-2 and SR-71. He has commanded the 9th Reconnaissance Wing, the 55th Wing and the 4404th Wing (Provisional) in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, supporting Operation Southern Watch. His staff tours include plans assignments with Strategic Air Command and Tactical Air Command, plus duty as Deputy Director of Plans and Programs at Air Combat Command. He served in plans and operations at Headquarters U.S. Air Force; as Executive Assistant to the first Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; and as Director of Strategy for Policy and Plans with U.S. Southern Command. The General has also served as Vice Commander of 12th Air Force, and prior to his current assignment, was Vice Commander of Air Combat Command.

Note he has tours in Sleds, U-2's and were I a betting man I'd bet that his RC-135 tours were Rivet Joint/Cobra Ball missions.

Looking at his history, I gotta figger he knows what a break looks like, a freeze looks like as well as both the cowboy and the coward. And also the solid leader.

I had mine last week.

The deer in the headlights look as Bush sat in a daze, blinking, his head slightly rocking all those minutes as he just sat there after being informed of the attacks was terrifying. Terrifying to see how utterly terrified he was. Terrifying to see how utterly clueless and incapacitated he was. Terrifying to know that this POS is the POTUS.

He must have done a couple of lines between then and Barksdale, I guess.

And there is your level of credibility right there. Care to make up any more lies on the spot?

Can you prove he didn't?

That time on the plane when he was fleeing... oops... I mean "leading"... is "classified," innit? Only can find out through closed door sessions, Cheney by his side, wink-wink-nudge-nudge-say-no-more...know what I mean, squire?

Argumentative vacuousness.

Let me guess, since the Bush administration has not given you this "classified" information it proves in your mind that you are right?

Dude, I'm making a joke about Dubya taking a couple of bumps to steady his nerves with a little white voodoo nose powder on the flight between Florida and Louisiana on 9/11/01.

I see your  and raise you

From the look on his face that morning, his handlers probably had to change his underwear on the flight, though.
