…… Woodchippers

I have an overabundance of sticks, branches and logs. I usually burn a lot of them, but it's too dry, so I'm looking at purchasing a woodchipper.

Anyone have experience with them? Do the cheap ones work well enough for occasional use? Thanks!

I've only heard bad things until you get into the gas powered ones that run $700 and up. I just started adding them to my compost pile. When I pile grass from mowing on top it helps compress it, and break it down faster.

I found the Hügelkultur method of gardening is a better use for wood like that. Had a homeowner model wood chipper and was way more trouble than it was worth and something else to store. It was impossible to get to the blades to maintain or sharpen.

I just purchased a string leaf mulcher and it is great for mulching leaves.
Good reviews and a 150.00 bucks.
Does small twigs and bark, I did hack it so it would handle. 095 line..

I bought one from Rural King last year. It ran about $700. Our property is almost 5 acres, mostly wooded. It makes quick work of sticks and small saplings, but it's as noisy as you would imagine so I don't run it excessively. I must say that it's not of much use for leaves...it gets clogged if they're the least bit damp. It does take up about a 2ft by 4ft space in our detached garage, but I don't have much out there these days.

We have a gas powered one. Try craigslist or facespy. We got ours for $300 works great. Don't use it very often because like you we burn most of them.
