The last 2 mornings, it's been in the 50's here! I almost had to grab a sweater, before hanging the laundry on the line this morning! 83 for our high, today.

Our little family group is planning a day trip and picnic for later this month. I think we're planning to go down to French Camp, MS.

Canned 11 half pints and 2 qts peach jam from big box neighbor brought us.
Daughter did up 6-8 more tomato sauces.
Got cover for pool. Sunday will probably be last swim day.
Still getting produce from the garden. Going to work on inside cabin today.

We haven't been doing much of anything all week. Yard maintenence and normal stuff, except taking our fur baby to the vet for a check up. He was doing fine.

I still haven't received the Keystone meat I ordered from Pleasant Hill Grains. Cary called them, yesterday, and they said it would probably be around the 1st of October, before we got it. They have a lot of back orders to fill. So, Cary checked Keystone Meats website, and they are back in stock, except for ground beef. I'll be making out another order to them next week.

I looked all over online, yesterday, for #10 cans of dried bell peppers. I found a site, but it will break the bank to get those, so I declined. For the time being, I'm going to buy peppers, and chop them for the freezer. I'll save the #10 cans I already have for long term storage. I've been using them, instead of taking up room in the freezers by chopping and freezing my own. Once again, no peppers from our garden this year to speak of. Sigh. Our local farmer's market this year was a total loss. We didn't get to buy any purple hull peas, so I'll have to keep stocking those from the grocery store.

Cary has a doctor's appointment on Tuesday for a check up. Hopefully, his doctor won't give him a hard time about the vax. This is his doctor that writes all of his prescription meds. If he refuses to be Cary's doctor, because he isn't vaxxed, I don't know what we'll do. All of the doctors in our area are all a part of the same medical system/complex/network.
Check out www.atlanticspice.com they have dried peppers and onions, reasonable prices. I just dehydrated 3 bushels of peppers. Filled 3 quart jars. Believe me, buying peppers at retail (or even at a farmers market) to dry yourself isnt cost effective.

Do these peppers come in #10 cans? I checked some sites and they are only measured by weight, but say nothing about how they're stored. Thanks. I'll check the site.

SB, thrivelife.com has #10 cans freeze dried peppers for $48.
Those are freeze dried! While they probably are wonderful, that can only has 3 ounces! The dried peppers I'm talking about (and I THINK Sherree is thinking of are simply dehydrated. They are under ten bucks a pound at the links I provided. A pound is *at least*na half bushel of fresh peppers.

We have been to the store twice lately. Once to Kroger and once to Harps. Kroger was totally out of Ritz crackers. They only had 2 bags of Ritz Crisps. But Harps had the crackers. We bought flour ,corn meal, sugar and some canned goods. We will get more sugar because of needing to feed the bees.

We went to Russellville to do a couple of errands and help at hubby's moms. We got her transferred to the hospital bed.The short time she is awake, her mind is still pretty clear. Her body is just shutting down. She can't even sit up any more or feed herself. The hospice nurse said it is a matter of days now.

We did go to 10 Box for another grocery run. All canned goods and another 10 pounds of sugar. I am out of room but I just feel uneasy about the future

I've never had freeze dried anything, but they seem popular in prepper circles. I plan to order from the site you listed. They have teas too!

I dehydrated 6 lbs of onions because I bought too much. Those 6 lbs almost filled a pint jar. But they are wonderful! It's hard for me to visualize how much you're getting for dehydrated things. I appreciate your input.

Freezel dried is the gold standard... a freeze dried strawberry looks like a strawberry, and rehydrates into a reasonable facsimile of a fresh/frozen berry. OTOH, a dehydrated strawberry will be very dark red/black, and it will be shriveled. It will be tasty, but more limited in uses than the0 freeze dried.

Two major downsides to FD IMHO... the expense and the bulk. Freeze drying is pretty much like storing the fresh fruit or vegetable. Dehydrating shrinks stuff amazingly. Bushels of produce can be stored in a case of quart jars. But if i could afford a freeze dryer, I'd use it constantly!

Started another pickup order. This time more hba items and general household needs.
I like my Thrive freeze dried foods but I became a seller at the wrong time. It's expensive but easy to use. I'm not active anymore so I just get it for a backup. I dehydrate veggies but I'd love a freeze dryer too!
We've picked a design for the green house so we're going to do more gathering of supplies. Then we are building a shop.

It's been a busy week. I"m trying to keep up with the garden - DH says, "if you don't need to can, don't." But if I don't, when we have the first frost/freeze, I will be BURIED in produce. So can it is. DId up a batch of pickled beets and watermelon lemonade concentrate today. Need to roast some peppers and can them and potatoes tomorrow. Plus work on the herbal business and maybe more apples.

Not too much going on this week, mainly just replenishing the fuel used during Ida's rampage. Tomorrow will be cutting up the one tree that got blown over, followed by some weed whacking...provided the rain holds off long enough.
Got to change the oil & filter, spark plug and air filter on the generators, too.

Got some preventive maintenance done. A trip to the dentist and a tetanus shot. I figured the last time I got one had to be over ten years ago.

Also thinking about getting the Pneumonia vaccine. Anyone have any pros or cons? I've no problem with vaccines provided they've had all the double blind studies done, problems with them have been tracked and documented for six to ten years and otherwise have gone thru the traditional USDA vaccine vetting process.

if I was more doc & syringe oriented - the regular tetanus inoculation would be on my med upkeep list >> they aren't effective that many years - good thing to have for SHTF times ...

I agree but I have not been to a doctor for 20 years. Now I do not trust any doctor or hospital.

Just my experience, so your mileage may definitely vary! I had the first pneumonia vaccine about 2 yrs ago. No problem whatsoever with that one except a slight headache that night. It was gone in the morning.

I got the 2nd pneumonia vaccine this spring, the pneumonia vax 23 one. Holey cow! My bicep swelled up like a balloon that afternoon, got hard as a rock and bright red, then developed a darker red line curving under the lower edge of the bicep. Started to feel unwell and short of breath, took some Benadryl and went to lay down. I probably should have gone to the ER. The next day my eyelid started to feel weird like it had been scratched or something, a little sore and itchy at the same time. The following day I broke out in shingles....just two days after that pneumonia shot. Honestly, I often wonder if they didn't slip me the covid vax instead.

PC doc saw me right away, got me on steroids, antivirals, and into an opthamologist the same day. Fortunately, my eyesight was fine, but the shingles was pretty bad. Took me months to get my strength back, it really made me tired for a good while.

That was my last vaccination. I'm done.

Wow! Thanks for the heads up. I had a slight reaction to the Tetanus shot. A hard knot that's gradually disappearing along with an itch. I've never had a reaction like that to a tetanus shot.

You're welcome :-) I have no idea what caused that reaction. Perhaps I was particularly susceptible to one of the strains in the vax, or my immune system was running on low, etc. Have no idea!
