Today is house cleaning day for me. Sunday home fellowship is here, tomorrow. I haven't really cleaned much all week. Just haven't been feeling well with interstitial cystitis flaring up. I think I'm finally over it now. The AZO pain medication for urinary tract problems is a lifesaver for me. Cary ordered more. We both really like and recommend all the AZO products if you're prone to having urinary problems of any kind. They even have a product that Cary depends on that tells you if you have a urinary tract infection if/when you first suspect it. Given his tract record of developing sepsis from them, twice, we stay stocked up on that one thing alone, along with all their other products.

We got a storm late yesterday afternoon. I'm sure it did the gardens a world of good. Question......Can I just throw my used coffee grounds directly into the garden along with other organic scraps, and work it in with a hoe about once a week? That's what I've been doing, but am afraid that too many coffee grounds might not be good.

If it doesn't rain, again, and if the lawn tractor cranks (There's still a problem with it that he hasn't figured out), Cary will be mowing this afternoon. It's been 2 weeks. Trying to conserve the gas, ya know. By the time it's gets mowed, today, we'll have our very own hay to bale. If the tractor has to go in the shop, we'll have to pay someone to mow it for us, cause it can't go much longer.

You can dry and then crush (very fine) your egg shells and use those in the garden..calcium will stop blossom end rot in tomatoes. They can also be worked into the soil before planting.

I already do that, along with potato peelings, and any other food scraps that won't hurt the garden. I don't want to put in too many coffee grounds if that would cause an issue.

Y'all have been busy while I've been at work!! I take my tablet to work with me so I can read new story chapters and posts during my lunch break, but I don't sign in so can't 'like' posts while I'm on the tablet - I had some serious catching up to do!! I very much appreciate all you folks that chime in, and how supportive this group is of each other - y'all ROCK!! :)

Hubby is off to a shooting match; I'm waiting to hear from Daughter to see if I have the boys tonight - they'll be at Daughter's Dad's house tomorrow for Father's Day, so they might be here today - though she'll probably have trouble prying them out of the pool and/or away from their video games - they only get to play them on the weekends.

Moldy, I hope Sis in law is coming to help you; and won't be a burden on you - you need to take care of YOU right now! Let her help with the cleaning if she is going to stay.

Sherree, the used coffee grounds should be fine, sans filter; but I wouldn't throw kitchen scraps in it as it will draw critters, which will then happily eat what your plants produce, if not some of the plants as well. I figure my compost piles keep the critters happy enough that they leave my gardens alone :) Four pallets held together in a square with zip ties makes a quick and simple compost pile.

HD5574, I use an 'antique' small white enamel w/ red trim stock pot for my compost - it fits right in with the rest of my kitchen decor

And speaking of compost - it's clean the fridge day. We toss way too much food. I try not to waste it, but some things get pushed to the back, sometimes I get called in to work on short notice and don't carry my lunch, sometimes I'm too tired to eat, but mostly I just make way too much of something and then we don't eat it all, and I don't get it frozen in time. At least I'll have some good compost in a few months... or some really chubby raccoons... Anybody got any recipes for raccoon?
( I think I'm joking, but maybe not  )

It's a lovely summer day here - nice breeze from the east (which will probably bring rain; east winds usually do) and a break from the 90* plus temps we've had recently. It's 66*F right now with a possible high of 80*F, and a low of 54*F for tonight. Works for me!! After I get those other chores taken care of, I probably need to throw a load of scrubs into the washer, then I need to do some organizing in the pantry and the rest of the house. I've got to figure out where to find more room on the main floor to keep pantry items - or get the knee replacements done that I keep putting off so that running up and down the stairs isn't such a bother. I can generally handle the pain, what I don't like is the femur trying to slip out of place - that HURTS like a booger With a history of tibial plateau fractures on both sides and an ACL that snapped while I was walking across the yard one day (thus leading to the tib plateau fracture on that side), I try to be at least a little careful...

I do need to run in to Dollar General sometime today as they have A&W Root Beer on sale 3/$12 - that is the only soda we drink and it's almost $6 a 12 pack anywhere else. There are a few other sale/coupon items that I'll pick up as well - gotta keep daughter in laundry detergent  My only other plan is to clean house, which means carrying stuff down to the pantry and store room - bleah. I guess I need to do that pretty soon since I also need to hoe in the garden - between the rain and today's sunshine, the weeds are popping right up. At least some of them are edible...

Guess I'd better head on in to town - sooner I go, the sooner I get back here and get my work done... Take care all; have a great weekend, and wishing all you Fathers, Grandfathers, and those who fill that part for those who don't an absolutely wonderful Father's Day Weekend :)

Yay! The lawn tractor cranked! Happy to get the yard mowed. Too many snakes around here to not keep it mowed really close.

Also brought up another case of canning jars to wash. Will be doing more canning, Monday, hopefully. I'm still finding ground beef in the freezers that are approaching a year old. I really do need to get a Food Saver, so I can keep it there longer without it getting freezer burned. I take each pack, and put it in freezer storage bags, and that really helps.

Yay, again!!! Got that compost pile started again with a fence around it. It won't be very big by next spring, but it'll help. We'll have lots of leaves this fall to dump into it, along with all the organic scraps. I just use a plastic bowl to collect the coffee grounds, egg shells, and food scraps in. It has a lid for it. It gets dumped every day. I'll just have to walk a bit farther to the compost pile now. I'm so happy to have it going again. Still in the same place as the old one was.
