Sometimes left at post office or delivered to wrong address. They are supposed to have a picture of the house they left it at

If it doesn't eventually come today, I'll be making phone calls, tomorrow. Cary told me to just write it off as lost. I ain't gonna do that, because how do I know the next order won't have to be wrote off as lost, too, if I don't receive it? I don't like throwing hard earned money away, because of someone else's mistakes.

No! Don't write it off as lost! Make them replace it... they have records of every package, and unless they dropped it outside your fence and a thief grabbed it immediately, it's their fault and problem to fix.

I'm going to do all I can to make them replace it. We were on the look-out for them all day, and FedEx never even passed our house. Plus, at the time the tracker said that it was delivered, our gate was open for a few hours, and they would have drove right up to our front door.

have you checked the FB MarketPlace or CraigsList for free pianos & organs? >>> I see a ton - just need to move it

You're right, but I'm not moving another full-sized piano at this point. I'm going portable and electronic because those fit easily into my vehicle and some weigh less than 7 pounds.

I keep thinking there might be one more move in my future.

Problem. I've been waiting on and tracking my order for the B&M Brown bread. It still hasn't come, even though according to our tracking, it was supposed to be delivered, yesterday. Well, this morning, Cary checked the tracking, again. It said that is was delivered, yesterday. NO, it was not. We waited all day, and nothing came. So, what should I do now? How do I prove that I didn't get my order when they are saying I did? It's past time for FedEx to run at my house, today, and still nothing.

Just shoot Walmart or whoever you ordered from an e-mail and tell them the problem. They have a lot more PULL than a normal person does in tracking down a missing package. And go and look in the ditch on either side of your house :bhd: Fed Ex threw my last Chewy order out at the road and it rolled in the ditch. I had to leave my car in the road with the flashers on while I fished it out, and I had half a dozen cans of smashed cat food.

Our normal FedEx driver is very friendly. She has made many deliveries to our house over the years. If our gate is open, she will drive right up to the house. If it isn't, she honks, and leaves the package just over our fence on top of the large trash can. That's why I'm thinking there has been a break down somewhere between what the tracker is saying, and what actually happened. Maybe, it was a different driver, and they left it at the wrong address?

Quite possibly. It's usually when we have a substitute that we have so much trouble. It could still be on the truck as well. The normal Fed Ex person leaves all my packages on the neighbor's porch, even though they have been told REPEATEDLY not to do that. He will get out and fight her 22 dogs instead of driving down my driveway.
The UPS guy is terrified of me because he and I got into it because he didn't deliver some refrigerated meds that I had paid overnight shipping on. They made him come back out with them after he finished his route. He looks like he's 12, much too young to drive. He always puts my stuff exactly where I told him to, after that.

Ok. Update on my bread order. UPS just stopped at the house, not FedEx. I ordered 6 cans of the bread from Walmart. I only received 3. I ordered the origional flavor. I got the raison. Last, but not least. The order was shipped from Amazon of which we have boycotted for a long time. I hope I eventually receive the rest of my order, but if I'm getting it from Amazon, I won't be ordering anymore. What a mess!

I ordered my two cases of B&M bread from walmart and it was delivered in a very timely fashion.

I never got around to straining our honey. DH bought a lard press (what ever that is) and used it for the honey. We ended up with 5- pine and half jars of the golden goodness. Since I opened one of the cans of B&M bread and I need to use it up, I warmed with butter two pieces and drizzled honey on it, so totally yummy.

I'm off to dig around in one of the freezers on the camper porch to find the bags of pig fat because DH wants to get it rendered. We use that lard almost daily and we've only used 3 quarts out of the at least 2 cases he rendered last year. Along with other fats I have stored and the lard, I think we are in good shape for stored fats.

Yesterday a life long friend (from here where I live again) and her husband invited us out to dinner. We gladly accepted. I've never cared for the food at the restaurant they wanted to go to but I kept my mouth shut about it. This was about the company and not the food as far as I was concerned. The food is also expensive, well to me anyway. I had fried green tomatoes and grilled catfish. DH had a burger and fries. The husband had fried oysters and onion rings. My dear friend had fried catfish. I swear I've never been out to eat with two people that ate so little on their plates. My friend got two nice size pieces for fish and only ate maybe half of one piece if that much. The don't do left over bags, but you can be sure we do. I only had a couple of pieces of tomato left and DH had four pieces of french fries left, but we took that and everything they did not eat. It made a nice lunch for us today.

I've been on a diet for a little while and ate off last night and then ate part of the take home left overs. Of course, this took me off of my diet and now I'm hungry. Have to get back on track. The two slim slices of the bread, with butter and honey finally satisfied my hunger.

I got a little more and a little more done around here, slow is better than nothing. So much to do and so little will to get it done.

God is good all the time

Today has not turned out well for me at all today. After the bread fiasco this morning, I accidentally poured hot boiling, off the stove, chicken broth all over my right thumb! Dang it! It hurts! After rinsing it under cold water, I smeared ice cold, out of the fridge, aloe vera gel all over it. Cary had to finish making supper. I'm sitting here trying to type with one hand. It's already blistered up. What a day......

I cannot find a free PDF of the lost herbal remedies but here is a list of similar books you can download FREE.

SB- So sorry about your burn, I hope it heals quickly.

I canned a mix of carrots, potatoes, onion and celery today. It’s an experiment LOL, I added a 1/2 tsp. of salt, a 1/4 tsp. of thyme and used a 1/2 strength of Better Than Bouillon broth as the liquid. I’m planning on canning some beef separately to use with veggies for a quick stew. I’ve canned beef stew in the past but I don’t really care for the veggies after being canned for meat times, so hopefully this will be good. I also want to do some with chicken broth too. I also thought this would be a good way to preserve this summer’s potato crop.

FedEx delivered my order from Walmart today and I got that put away. I put an order in last week for some canning jars but I still haven’t gotten a shipping email from them although my order confirmation says I should get them by July 30. DH went to the small Walmart nearest us this morning and they actually had some canning jars in stock, they have/had pretty much nada when it comes to canning supplies. They still don‘t have lids. He went ahead and bought a case of wide mouth quart, if I can get some from there, I’ll cancel the order but I’m thinking they will cancel first.

I‘m certainly not feeling very energetic but all three of the grands are coming tomorrow so I don’t know what or if I’ll accomplish anything except spending time with them.

Oh, ouch! I wish I'd seen this earlier! Put that thumb in cold water until the pain stops. If you havecsnt Burn Free gel (we've discussed it on the prep threads), apply it in between soaks. It helps the pain, but the cold water helps it more.

It may take 6 hours, but eventually, the pain will be bearable when you take it out of the water- thats when you apply aloe (or Burn Free: it really does work!) And wrap it loosely.

Sherree, I hope your hand feels better this morning.
I went to the dump this morning. I thought I was pushing my luck having those cans of old food in the outside trash. With this heat wave, I'm pretty sure the bears are going to stay down in the deep woods, but no sense in taking a chance. They don't usually come into the barnyard except in the winter time, and I don't want to encourage them otherwise.
Depending on how hot it gets today, I may have to help dh work on the tractor.

Soaking it in ice water is what I finally had to do. The Aloe wasn't taking all the pain away. I didn't get much sleep last night, but it's not burning as bad this morning. I'm using the Aloe right now. I'm going to buy up a few more bottles of it. The only one I have is the bottle I'm using out of. I keep it in the fridge. I have burn cream in my preps, but Aloe seems to work better, at least for me.

Next time I need to pour broth into a measuring cup, I will ladel it from the pot, instead of trying to pour it straight from the pot. It was still boiling. I tilted the pot too far, and the broth spilled all over my thumb, also over filling the cup. Don't know what I was even thinking at the time.

Ah, we've all done it. The best (worst!) one I did was trip while carrying a 5 gallon pail of boiling maple syrup up the stairs, to finish on the kitchen stove... my little finger and half my hand blistered up instantly (really deep 2nd degree burn), and I stripped out of my jeans right on the stairs, and only got a shallow second degree on my thigh.

But that finger hurt like fire for hours! The only way I was able to rest at all was propped up in bed with a big stainless steel bowl full of ice water on my lap. I dozed on and off until the pain finally quit around 3 am.

I'm a LOT more careful around hot syrup now!

I tried to sleep last night with a zip lock bag of ice on my thumb. It helped, but I still didn't get much sleep. From the tip of my thumb all the way down to my wrist all the way around was a solid blister last night. It's better this morning. I've already soaked it in cold water this morning, and applied Aloe.

Question We grow peanuts and I make butter from them. I have never stocked up on peanut butter due to growing peanuts. I am now rethinking that but wondering how it will store. Remember that I live in hot humid area. I do store cooking oil with no problems but unsure about the peanut butter. In days past I would just buy some, store it for 6 months, and then taste it. Now I don't feel like I have time for that. All opinions appreciated.

I've had the cheap stuff (jif? With hydrogenated oils, which makes no sense) turn rancid on me, even in our cool basement. But Schmuckers All Natural in the glass jar keeps for years past its expiration date. It separates. Of course, but the oil stirs back in easily.

I've got jars of peanut butter in storage that are a few years old. I would have to look to see exactly how old they are. I opened one of them last week, and it was just like fresh bought. I try not to keep jars that long, but I've never had one go bad.

I just checked, and the oldest jar I have expired in July of 2020. I use Peter Pan.

Thank you! Peanuts look good right now and should be plenty for years but you never know until after you harvest! Our only grocery store has closed. I don't know how locked down we will be but choose to try to cover what we need and what we might want while I can. Last week I topped off first aid supplies this week reviewing what we might want. Necessities are taken care of.

On an interesting note...drove thru the local countryside yesterday. I noted several old homesteads that had been empty for a long time being refurbished. Not in the restoration mode but in the I need to live here mode. Chimneys being repaired etc. All that I saw had gardens plowed. I guess getting ready for fall as it is the end of summer growing season here. New chicken coops etc. At church a few weeks ago met a family that is moving here from IL. Another family recently moved here from Atlanta area onto a hundred acres wanting a better life for their family. I hadn't seen much movement til recently! People are waking up I think.

And did I mention tomatoes are done?!:chkn::applaud::):lkick:
