/got a couple loads of laundry done, the canning kitchen cleaned, the aloe and codonopsis repotted and 2 loaves of zucchini bread made (1 lemon and 1 almond). We've gotten some really nice rain - and I'm so happy to not have to water, but it makes it too wet to weed.

Can someone teach me about figs? I don’t think I’ve ever had one unless a fig newton counts. :jstr: The house hubby and I bought almost a year ago has a big fig tree with lots coming. I know nothing about them. When are they ready? How can I preserve them? Thanks!

My figs are ripe when they turn a deep reddish purple. I pick them a little early, and let them finish on the countertop. Birds and coons get them if I don't do it that way. We just eat them fresh. You can make fig perserves, but I don't, anymore. That's the only way I've ever been able to use them. I looked for fig recipes, yesterday, but I didn't see any I liked.

Thanks y’all. How do you eat them? Do they need to be peeled? I literally know nothing about them? What month do they usually become ripe?

With all the screwyness going on in the world I did a prep run; canned meat, convenience foods and canned fruit and veggies.

Do I feel ready for a SHTF? No. Each addition to the pantry helps. An insurance policy and we get to eat the premium.
