Good Morning, All!!

All I've managed to do so far this morning is fill hummingbird feeders, feed indoor and outdoor cats, and make a pot of coffee. I've got the side porch door open to do a little air exchange, but I won't be able to keep it open for long. It's supposed to be another scorcher in the 90's today, but at least there is a chance of rain in the forecast - it says isolated thunderstorms and scattered thunderstorms for today; then rain or a chance of rain daily through Thursday. I'll take it - I really don't want to have to water the gardens. I probably should go out and till between the rows; but the weed pressure isn't horrible and I've done what weeding in the actual rows of plants that absolutely has to be done by hand and hoe as I didn't want to lose any of the soil moisture that was below the top, dry portion.

The feral Mama Kitty has been teaching her kittens to hunt - they were dragging around a small, dead rabbit last evening. I'm not at all fond of rodents or things that eat my garden, so I am cheering them on - at least as long as they stay away from the birds that I feed. I have a Mama Wren with a nest in my grape arbor near the kitchen door; the kittens will get squirted with the water bottle if they bother her; she helps takes care of the skeeters in that area of the porch.

I won't get much else useful done today as I've got the two younger grandsons underfoot - or at least they will be once they wake up. Older one wants to cook something; I'm planning to suggest cookies or muffins as that will have the oven on for only a short period of time. Oldest grandson is home for a month, recuperating from surgery - I think daughter is counting down the days until he is healed enough to be on his own and the younger two go back to school. And speaking of school - we got the school supplies last night; under $200 for the two boys (I left it up to daughter to buy the fancy-schmancy calculator for the middle boy; I'd get the wrong thing for sure!) Middle grandson needed 5 folders - he bought 5 that were the same type/color. I tried explaining to him that he might want different colors so he'd know what subject each was for; nope. Must have got that hard headed gene from the paternal line; goodness knows we don't have any of that in my line.... cough, cough... Daughter asked me to hold off on picking up the extra two sets of supplies that I'd planned to get as the boys have a couple of friends that may need them, so I will do a run to get them as soon as she gives me the word. She'd better do it fast as we had to make a foray into the office supply section to find a couple of things.

I'm starting a 3 inna row stretch at work tomorrow evening - not looking forward to it, but I do get 6 days off before I have to do another 3 inna row so I can't complain too much. I've been adding up my vacation hours and have enough to cover my two vacations this fall, but am going to need to add a few for the knee surgery that I know is going to have to happen sometime in the near future.

Well, I'd better post this and then go hide - Papaw makes breakfast on Sunday when the boys are here, so I'm getting out of the way

Take care all; stay safe - wishing you all a good week!

Good morning all!

This will be my last week of summer break before starting back to school on August 1. How did it go by so quickly?

I am setting two goals for myself this week - 1- I want to learn about and possibly test out the (older) aero garden I got at goodwill and 2- I want to learn about and bake a loaf of bread in my new Zo+ bread machine.

I will continue to add to our pantry as the budget allows.

Today is going to be a hot one. Heat advisory again for later.
I think I’ll get my walk in early while I can.

Slow and steady -

Temp right now at 8 am is 80, but heat index of 91, already this morning. We have some humidity showers in the area, so hopefully, we'll get one. I'm not holding my breath, though. I have the back French doors open along with the front door to let in the cooler air. It's nice to get a good air freshening even if it's humid out. I have the floor fan going. There's a slight breeze blowing, too.

It's so dry that my green beans aren't filling out. There's lots of beans, but they are flat and tough. We've been keeping them watered, but with this heat, they just aren't making well. I still have lots of tomatoes and bell peppers coming in. The late squash is doing well, so far, and the cukes the groundhog ate are coming back out. I've also been cutting and drying my chives. They have done great this year. Muscadine trellis is loaded down with muscadines. I wish Cary liked jelly made from them, cause I don't know what else to do with them. Mom usually takes them every year, but I think she has enough of her own this year. So far, the groundhog hasn't found them!

I'm sending off another order to AZO for more UTI med's and test strips. We already have a good stock, but more would be better, since both Cary and I use their products on a daily basis. Other than Cary's prescription med's, I have a good stock of, at least a year's worth, of all our vitamins, supplements, and OTC med's, maybe longer. Cary can only get his med's refilled at 3 month intervals, but has a year's prescription at all times.

He has his once a year check up with his neurologist on Thursday of this week. Even though, he has had no more seizures, since the first and only one he had, they still want him to take med's, and have a check up once a year. He will get a new prescription for those, Thursday, for another year. I plan to go to Sam's that day, too, since we'll already be in big town. Maybe, it won't be so crowded this time. We tend to always shy away from crowds. I also, need to be fitted for a couple of dress suits while in big town, too. I hate to say it, but I have outgrown all my dress clothes/suits that would be appropriate for a funeral service.

My aunt that fell and broke her hip a few weeks ago isn't doing well at all. Something happened to her mind, once she had the surgery. The surgery went well, and she has fully recovered from that, but it left her mind in a bad way. She just rambles, and doesn't know what she's saying most of the time. We all think she may have had a small stroke. Her husband is going down hill fast, too, from worry over her. They have always been inseparable. They've been together over 70 years. She just turned 90, and he is 93.

Anyway, getting ready for home fellowship, today. It'll be good to see the gang!

Ackkkkkk! :hof:Cary just had to get the shovel, and get a 4ft. snake off our front porch!!!!! I had the front door open, but our dog alerted us to its presence! He said it was nonpoisonous, though. He took it off to the woods, and let it go. If that thing had have got in the house, I would have let the snake have the house!!!! I ran out the back door, anyway!

Well, this has been a pleasant morning!! Up early and out to the garden at daylight to water. I am actually amazed my garden is surviving, but I have been watering ever morning and it seems to really like that!! Don't water a lot, just soak around each plant and deep water once a week.

Tomatoes are setting up good, but nothing ripe yet. Cukes are getting busy and I pinched all the blossoms off of my peppers, hoping they will grow some more before they start bearing. I got everything transplanted VERY LATE, because of the onions being in the main bed and trying to wait for them to finish maturing. I also have a bunch of cantaloupes planted, and although they are blooming, they are not forming melons AT ALL!!

Have a bunch of different kinds of bees, but not sure what they are....no bumblebees, but different. Not aggressive at all. They worked around me. If I bumped them, they just went on gathering pollen.

Now I am sleepy and I may grab a nap.....later!

I had a bad night last night. On one of my trips to the bathroom I didn't make it and somehow ended up in the floor. I have absolutly no strength and could not help DH to get me off the floor. He called 911 and a nice deputy showed up and with the two of them they got me off the floor. I feel weak as a kitten. I must have hit my head because I have an egg on my forehead and its sore to the touch,. And after the incident in the yard a few days ago, where I could not walk and felt faint, I'm now afraid to go out side. My leg, however, is doing better. I'm using a cane to help steady me.

Other than all that, sitting here at my computer, I feel normal.

Our garden is almost gone, zucchini plants have died and the tomato plants are on their last leg. DH sliced and breaded and fried zucchini yesterday, it was good. We still have a couple of large ones left on the porch rail.

I'm so sorry to hear about another fall, Judy. Do you know what is causing them?

Judy the falls could be from the UTI. My dear mother in law kept falling before she knew she had one. He daughter took her to the dr because she hit her head pretty hard. They checked and she had a UTI. Then DMIL admitted she had fallen several times and had not told us. The falls stopped once the UTI cleared up. Prayers for your healing.

Sheree look for a muscidine pie recipe. They are wonderful and remind me of tart cherry pie. I have not made one in years. Prayers for your aunt and uncle.

I started back on thyroid medication last Monday. Some days have been good and some not so good. We will see how it goes. 5 more weeks and they retest my levels.

We went to the local auction house yesterday. I bought my son a antique 2 burner cast iron propane stove to use canning outside. I bought me some onyx rock eggs in lots of pretty colors. Then I bought an old metal dish pan and a heavy duty military folding shovel. We had a great time visiting with friends while there. Only one couple wore masks and they came in late. It seemed like old times.

Last Sunday we got an inch of rain. We have chances again starting Wednesday and lasting through the weekend. Our temperature should back off into the 90s instead of 100s. Today was 103*.

Early in the year i bought a can of Margaret Holmes's tomato okra and corn to see if we like it. We do. I can a simular home canned without the corn, but this is convenient at times. The first can I bought was $1.28. The price has slowly been inching up. This week the Walmart price is $1.78.

Eggs prices at our local Harps are going up fast. In one week 1 dozen have gone up .10, 18 count is up .20, 30 count is up .72 and 5 dozen is up $1.30. The 5 dozen is $17.48. Yikes!

Digger, I've completed the antibiotics for the UTI, two kinds, I've not taken CS in the last couple of days because I could barely walk with the sciatica, I'll start taking it again tonight and continue for a week. The pain from the sciatica has been really bad, but its better today, I guess resting may have helped. But I'm still afraid to go out side, since I had that episode last Thursday and practically had to crawl back to the house. I'm doing a lot better today.

Prayerfully I can get back to my normal activities tonight and tomorrow. The kitchen needs attention and so does the laundry.

Judy I hate that you are feeling poorly. Praying that you will recover quickly. I loaded the dehydrator this morning with figs and hopefully they will be completed by tomorrow. I worked in a couple of flowerbeds and am researching other plants to feed chickens. Would love to ditch the feed store! I have new chicks! So much fun to watch. Watermelon and cantaloupe are coming in. Cukes are doing well. Our tomatoes have been subpar. I guess from the heat. As soon as the garden slows I hope to fish and maybe can them. Right now garden is keeping me busy. Corn is about ready to process! Wish I could make everyone promise to take a few hours off to enjoy each other and to rest. If you are like us you are working from can to can't!

Going out to water in a few. Need to pull off the hail damaged leaves from the storm last week. Looks like we'll get break in the heat and get some rain at the end of the week.
Dh upgraded our internet service so waiting on the service guy to come.
Need to do more laundry and cleaning the kitchen. Guess I'll get up and get busy.

Judy, I hope you are doing better today. Quick questions - what distance had you walked before you fell? Are you on any cardiac/blood pressure/heart rate medications? I'm wondering about orthostatic hypotension. You can pm me rather than answer here; if you choose to answer.

It's a lovely summer day here - temps got down in to the low 60's and haven't hit 70 yet; they aren't supposed to get out of the mid 70's today. We've got rain in the forecast starting this evening and continuing most of the next 4 days, and temps in the high 50's to high 70's until the weekend - I have to work 3 of the 4 days it's going to rain, but I'm going to enjoy what outside time I get. When it's possible, I try to sneak outside to take a walk on my last 15 minute break at work - I take it as soon as it's light enough to see well outside. Our location is fairly safe, my badge allows me to access all of the entrances to the buildings, and there are usually a few other staff out and about in the parking lots, etc.. so I don't worry too much about being out at that time.

I'm likely to be scarce for a few days r/t my work schedule, so will be glad to see what everyone is doing here if I'm able to peek in. This morning I'm trying to tidy the house up a bit and make sure all the laundry is done up. I've got my supper meal for the first night at work fixed and ready to go in my lunchbox, but may end up picking up takeout from my favorite Italian place tomorrow on my way in to work - one order will provide supper for 2-3 days. Nothing much will get done around here during my 3 day stretch at work besides feeding the critters - and I'm okay with that. I've got my scrubs ready to go, B-12 and non-perishable snacks loaded in my work bag, and as soon as the second load of laundry is tossed in the dryer, I'm heading back to bed to see if I can get in a little more sleep.

Mama kitty is still working on teaching the kittens to hunt - I saw her carrying another small rabbit into the shed when I went out to feed them this morning. As long as they stay away from the birds I feed, I'll be fine with having them stay around as I HATE rodents with a mad and undying passion  I do hope that they don't catch the chipmunk that comes up on the porch to sneak pieces of cat food though; he's kinda cute.

I plan to stop by Rural King one of the mornings after work if there is one that it isn't raining to pick up another case or two of canned cat food, and probably another 100# of sugar (10 -10# bags); then will check Wednesday afternoon when I get up to see if the nearby orchard has Red Haven peaches still - if so, I'll grab a bushel on my way home from work Thursday morning to can during my time off. They'll have to sit a day or three to finish ripening before I can them - the ones I bought Friday morning are still working on ripening, but I've been able to pick out a few here and there for fresh eating.

Well, the dryer buzzer is sounding so I'd better get down there and swap loads of laundry from dryer to basket and washer to dryer, and then see if I can nap.

You folks all take care out there - stay safe!!

Even though, there were humidity showers all around us, yesterday, we didn't get any rain at all. I think it thundered twice. Got out, and watered again this morning. Hopefully, we have enough water left in our 650 gal water tank to do, until we get more substantial rain. All our rain barrels and tubs are empty.

Cary pulled most of the tomato plants from the garden this morning. They were finished, and we wanted to get them out of the beds, so we could begin work on the soil for next year. The tomato plants in the volunteer garden are still doing great. Loaded with blooms, and are so healthy and lush. The cucumbers are coming back out, and are doing well, too. Cary got some rope, and tied aluminum pie pans all around the volunteer garden to, hopefully, keep the critters out. The crazy groundhog had bent over the fence in the spot he was climbing over, so he fixed that, too. If we can keep the critters out of this area, we've decided to turn this whole corner of our backyard into a garden area next year. That's our plan, anyway. The dish water and washing machine water keeps the soil really moist, and the soil is very fertile, because it was once a hog pen. We'll still use compost and work the soil a bit, before planting. I may keep the raised beds going for herbs. Might even try growing potatoes in them again after all these years of not trying.

Got one load of laundry going, and another waiting. Both to be hung on the line. In this heat, it doesn't take long to dry.

eta. Posted this in the wrong week's thread. I got it right this time! :D Need to pay better attention.

LOL! I am the snake remover in this household when it's necessary. Mama was terrified of them - saw her going from flatfooted to sitting on top of the piano one day when she bent over to pick up what she thought was a belt on the floor. She never propped any of the screen doors open after that. We had German Shepards for many, many years and those dogs were death on snakes; I usually just ignore them. I've not seen any poisonous ones in the yard, just garter snakes, grass snakes, rat snakes and black snakes. I'm a fan of anything that eats mice, so I go my way and let them go theirs.

I am horrified of all snakes! When our boys were small, they had bunk beds in their bedroom. One day, oldest son yelled at me to come to their room. When I stepped into the room, both boys were on the top bunk. Oldest son said there's a snake in our closet. I grabbed the phone, and up on the top bunk I went with them! Called Cary all the way home from work to get the snake! Yep, we were all still on the top bunk when he walked through the door. By the time he got home, the snake had apparantly gone back out through the hole it came in at. Cary plugged the hole! He told us that we had scared the snake so bad it decided to leave on it's own, LOL!

Me too ! Our daughter lived in an older house and a tiny green garter snake had gotten in. Her comment was " That's it. Mom will never come to visit again".

Cary and I went for a walk in the fields down the hill from our house a couple of years ago. While we were stopping for a break, a black snake ran between my legs! I flat footed it on top of his shoulders. I stayed there, until we got back to our house! I think I screamed so loud that everyone in the county heard me. He still laughs about it to this day. :shk: I'm almost the same way with spiders.

I hope Judy is alright. I haven't seen her here, today. :(
I had a bad start to the day, my knee was so stiff I couldn't bend it, but it finally got to the point where I could actually wash a few dishes. I hate to keep whining about my ailments. But you folks give me suggestions that help, along with prayers.

Our friend that gets our excess eggs come over for coffee this morning, and then I had three long phone conversations, the last from my youngest son. So all that was nice. DH had to go to the VA for a ct on his right ear. He's had an infection that will not clear up.

I heard back from the sheriff's office about the goat thief, but since I didn't have any identifying information all he could do was add to the file, nice man though.

I did get some dishes washed, but that was it.

Had a doctor appointment yesterday. I was wearing a mask as my check in text had instructed. While the doctor was in the room, she told me I could take my (fabric) mask off as it wasn’t doing anything to protect me or her. She stated that was a psyop by the federal government. I was surprised to hear her say it and did remove my mask.
Just thought it to be interesting - wish I’d asked her about her recommendations on the vax. ;)

Judy - hope you are feeling better today. Keep posting away as you can. We are here to uplift you.

Moldy - how are you feeling? Prayers continue.

YEEEEHAWWWW!!!

Just finished putting up reflective insulation on my South windows in the RV!!

Was getting boxes at the local Dollar General to use in the garden, and found a HUGE reflective insulation wrapper that is used to pack frozen foods in during delivery as they put up the foods. It must be 6'X 4' wide and had all four sides. Went in and asked if I could have it.....they said OK and there was at least 1 per week!!! I have enough left to do the rest of the RV, which is completely done except for the East side now..... hopefully will get that done sometime tomorrow....

It IS a job though!! Cutting it to fit the curved windows and then getting it secured to the metal frames with super duct tape!!!!

I also plan to put another layer facing with the reflective side inward when it gets cold....heat out during summer. Heat IN during winter!!

NIFTY YEH??

I picked pole beans this morning. Will be enough for a good mess for our supper, tonight! :eleph: Probably won't get anymore, though, the vines are dying. We planted way too late, but are hopeful for next year. Since pulling up all the old tomato plants, we're already working on those raised beds. It's too hot to do much right now, except early in the mornings, but it's getting done. I don't plan to use them this fall, unless, I sow some mustard or turnip seed. That's very possible if we can get more rain.

Thank you ladies for your kind words and considerations.

I'm doing better this morning, I need to go pick up commodities today, DH is taking me. It will be the first time I've been out of the house in a few days. I've been afraid to even go out the front door for fear of falling. I will be taking my walking stick.

I need to return that food saver I bought the last time I was there, it does not work at all, it should not have been put back on the shelf. I did manage to get it back in the box this morning.

Maybe I can get a few things done today.

Gee, I'm not sure what extractor thingy your mean.

So we picked up commodities, they were slim pickings, but greatfull for what we did get, no meat though and one can of green beans. Big bag of french fries, which we rarely use, they will go to a friend that has 5 adults in his house.

WM took the non working foodsaver back with no questions and said it would not go back on the shelf. Other than that I only went in to get yogurt, its hard to find whole milk yogurt, but I did. I did get a couple of other things but was not really tempted to load up.

My leg did very well although I'm filled with fear of falling. This was the first time I've been out the front door in almost a week. I'm tired, but I figured the walk around the store would be good for me, I held onto the cart and I was fine.

My garden fresh green beans sure do smell good cooking! Cooked down low with bacon grease and a bit of salt. I'm making meatloaf, mashed potatoes and brown gravy to go with them. Bread and butter pickles and Kaiser rolls, too. A nice regular meal, tonight, for a change. We're getting tired of eating salads and sandwiches, which is what we've been eating, because of the heat.

I'm gonna try this pump, which in the video it looks pretty simple. The lady in the video gave up food savers and uses a break bleeder, which I found hard to do. She showed how the pump works and seemed impressed.

I'm trying to both take it easy and also get back to doing some things every day. I haven't had a pain pill in a couple of days.

As for the uti, I'm not too sure about it, I'm continuing to take the CS. I also need to add cranberry capsules for the UTI and ginko biloba for the sciatica. Ginko has been used for eoons for sciatica. I stopped taking it years ago because I think it makes you sun sensitive. I need to look it up again.
