All of Mom's tests came back normal, but doctor wants to do a CT Scan on her liver and gall bladder area. He suspects a bile duct issue, since she doesn't have a gall bladder. She was relieved to hear that she wasn't dying of liver failure. That's what she had convinced herself was happening. I got her doctor to explain the issue to her, and he made sure she understood that her liver was in good shape. He didn't say too much about her diet, and won't, until he finds the problem. She's lost 15lbs, since her last visit in only a couple of months. 118 lbs is what she weighed, today! Her normal weight should be around 135-140 lbs.

Thanks for everyone's concerns and thoughts! :)

We're off for Cary's doctor's appointment this morning. It's only for a check up with his Neurologist. It's been 5 1/2 yrs., since he had a seizure, and we think that he will be dismissed from this doctor, today. He won't have to have his seizure meds renewed, either. She told him on his last visit 6 months ago, that he could discontinue the med if he wanted to.

It's going to be another hot one, today. At 6:33 am it's already 77 degrees. Forecast high, today, with heat index, 106 and sunny.

Happy Birthday Wanderlore!

I bought too many onions. So I chopped them up after work and put in dehydrator. That's it for today. : )

My cat is losing weight, but is eating well and active. Can anyone recommend a de-wormer? TIA
Ivermectin works on most of the common parasites in cats. However, it doesn't handle tapeworms, which come from ingesting fleas. If your cat is indoors only, and doesn't have flea issues, ivermectin should be sufficient. We used to worm the entire barn cat colony with ivermectin 2x a year.

The dose is 1 cc of 1% injectable (given orally) per 40 pounds of body weight. So, an 8 pound cat needs 1/5th of a cc. Buy a 1 cc insulin syringe so your dosing is accurate. You can put itI in milk or food, or just squirt it into their mouth.

Well, that's another doctor and prescription med that Cary is done with! Everything went well. The only thing that was aggravating was that right before we were about to leave for his appt. the office called, and told us we didn't have to come in. We could do it by phone, and at Cary's appt. time, his doctor would give him a call. That's what happened. I wish they would have called, before we were both dressed up and ready to leave. Had to go back, and change into work clothes with nothing else planned for the day.

Sometimes I wonder about these doctors. Cary's neurologist told him this morning he didn't have to take his meds anymore, and that Cary didn't have to come back to see him, unless he started having seizures again. That went well, Right? Now, this same doctor calls Cary back, and tells him that before he goes off the meds, he wants him to come in to have an EEG. What the doctor doesn't know is that Cary stopped taking the meds a month ago. So, now we're waiting on an appt for the EEG. He's only had one seizure in his whole life! That was 5 1/2 yrs. ago. His BP spiked too high, and that caused the seizure. Our frustration is maxed out right now!

I need to be canning tomatoes, not dealing with all this craziness! I've just got too much going on right now.

SB- I hope you two are having a better day.

I have an extra day off from babysitting this week so I hope I can get some canning done. I decided to try out a quart of the veggies I canned with chicken broth a few weeks ago for our supper last night. I added a pint jar of chicken chunks that I canned last year and mixed in some cornstarch with a little of the broth to make a really quick and tasty stew. DH wasn’t sure he‘d like it I guess, and got a pack of chicken fajita meat that I had cooked from the freezer and then stuck in the fridge after trying the stew LOL. He decided “that would definitely be worth canning more of” and is looking forward to trying the veggies with beef broth, but right now the only beef I have canned is ground beef.

DH just had 3 tons of feed delivered for the cows, he was surprised when he called to order that the price hadn’t went up. I hope that doesn’t change by the time we get the bill. It’s still too hot and humid to try and store any more than that.

I’m so looking forward to fall, so tired of the heat.

So I went to Costsaver today (a local Costco outlet with somewhat higher prices for shipping and their overhead) to get almonds, since there is so much news about farmers uprooting their almond trees due to drought. While there, i checked out their dry beans. Most were $2.39, but the Great Northerns were marked $1.39, so i picked up a couple. At the register, they scan in as $3.39- "sorry, the shelf price didn't get updated"- Now that's a big price jump! They kindly gave me the two bags at the $1.39 price, but that really has me thinking about rising prices!

Wow! That's quite a jump. But I would've bought them, anyway. $3.39 for a pound is still better than the tiny cans of baked beans for $2.15, which are only 3/4s full these days. (Yes, I bought one because I was going to a picnic and in a hurry. I normally make my own baked beans in the fall.)

We went to the VA today, DH's monthly INR check, and also a check up in hepatology. Hep clinic said there has been no change in two years and for next check up they will order a CT for him and if nothing has changed they will discharge him to his primary care, this is good news. I also had the remainder of my blood work done and the lady had not problem drawing the blood, one stick and she got the three vials she needed. This is just a regular check, nothing in particular.

We also went to an Albertsons in the big town for me to get more of the Del Monte canned zucchini, I got two cases and left another case for someone else. I'll check other places to get the remainder of what I need/want for a year. this was more expensive than walmart, but walmart has been out for a while. If the online things is correct my local w/m may have it back in stock. Now I can have this nutritious food once a week for a year, anyway.

I wore a fairly new pair of boots today and could hardly walk in them. They didn't hurt my feet, my legs just didn't seem to want to work right. I figured out a way to wear the mask that covers my nose, like the insist, but gives me room to breath. The kind with the metal where it can be pinched, I pinch it kine of narrow and have it on the end of my nose. It seems to give me more breathable space inside the mask and didn't make me feel imprisoned. It does not look like the mask crap is going to go away any time soon, yuck.

The Neurologist called Cary today, and cancelled his EEG! He also told him that he needed to keep taking his meds for seizures!!! He called his prescription in to Walmart! I wish he would make up his mind! This is driving us crazy with all the run around. First, he was told no need for meds anymore, and we don't need to see you again, unless you have another seizure. Now, we need you to keep taking the meds, and we'll see you in a year......First, an EEG is scheduled. Now, No need for one!

Since both of Mom's test didn't show anything. We now have to take her back for CT scans on her chest and abdomen August 17th at the hospital. Then an office visit with her doctor on August 26th to find out the results of the scans. I don't have any idea what will happen next.

Meanwhile, youngest DS is going through a divorce, and will be going back to Texas in a couple of weeks for the divorce hearing. He's not in the best of shape to be traveling right now. He's almost decided to just stay in Texas to be close to his MS Specialist for good, instead of staying close to home.

Oldest DS is in Jackson, MS all week for his company. The worst hit part of our state for Covid! No, he isn't vaxxed.

Tomorrow morning, Cary and I will be going to DS's house to pick up another trailer load of firewood, which will take most of the day, or the biggest part of it.

I've got tomatoes running out my ears that I've got to find time to do something with. Today, I'm just so stressed, and the old Cystitis is acting up, plus a low grade fever.

SB, I'm sorry you have so much going on. I'd pick up the rx on time every 3 months and stick it on a shelf, but he has to do what's best for him.

I listened to too many YouTube videos today. So I ran to Sam's. Many shelves just had stuff on the lowest shelves. I bought about 25 lbs of chicken, 10 lbs ground turkey (marked down), 2 LG bags of walnuts, pecans, and almonds. I bought another LG container of washing detergent. 2 LG bags of chocolate chips, cocoa powder, Powdered Sugar, peanuts, dried onions, 3 deodorants. They had NONE of my dogs favorite canned dog food. I still have 2 cases. Maybe they'll restock soon.

I feel like I've got one foot out of normalcy bias and one foot in.

Edited to add: I always take Cranberry if I feel a UTI coming on.

Hey everyone! All my canning is just about done. Some more jelly to make as the grapes and apples come in but that is fun to me. We are enjoying the end of the season of everything! Savoring every little morsel.

On a different note... 2 days a week I volunteer at a food bank. We are having fewer people come thru. I can't quite figure that out. Maybe they are growing a bit of food? I doubt it but maybe!

I also had Dr appt today. I had a loss of vision following a small stroke in April. I have regained almost all the vision I lost and the nasty little culprit of A fib has been addressed! Looking forward to a great Fall. Our Maple trees are already turning.

Have a nice night!

I'm feeling a bit calmer, today. We left at daylight going to load the firewood. We're finally home. It's the biggest load, yet. Had to get down there and get it done, before it got too hot to be out. Heat index is going to be cooler today at only 102. I took half of my tomatoes to DDIL. She had asked for some, since hers didn't produce this year. That took some of the load off me.

I have Interstitial Cystitis which is an autoimmune condition. Inflammation in the lining of my bladder. Cranberry juice doesn't work. I have prescription medication to take for it when it flares up. Spicy and acidic foods aggravate it. Too many garden fresh tomatoes, lately. The fever is gone, today, so far.

All my other stressers will be dealt with on a day by day basis. I'm just trying to walk one day at a time, and trying my best to trust God with it all.

Thank you all for your prayers yesterday;; today is better. I did get my medical exemption from my doc, but it still has to go thru corporate. I"m not holding out much hope for them to pass it, but I will attempt to jump thru their hoops until I can't. Was weeding this morning and found a bunch of melons!! I didn't think we were going to get cantaloupe/honeydews, but the vines are now loaded!

working on ordering some chickens - I need new layers and getting some meat birds won't be a bad idea either.

SB - you might try some corn silk tea for your cystitis. It's very soothing to the bladder, and I"ll bet you can find some fresh corn around.

Glad that those of you that have been feeling stressed/down/etc. are feeling better. I’ve had many of those days lately too.

DH is baling our hayfield that he cut Tuesday, this heat really helped to dry the grass and we didn’t have any rain while it was on the ground this time around.

I got things cleaned and organized yesterday for canning today including washing jars and lids. I’ve been prepping vegetables for awhile today. The goal is to get 14 more quarts of veggies canned today. I’m taking breaks as I need to although I’m about ready for the first batch to go in the canner. If I can’t hold up to do the second batch today, I’ll just do that one tomorrow but I’d really like to get it knocked out today. Wish me luck, I’m going in!

SB, praying for you to get better and Moldy too.

I've been feeling off lately, not sick, just not right. I got some extra sleep this morning and my frame of mind is a lot better.

Good thing I got the underwood liver wurst when I did, its gone up in price, will have to use it as a treat, although if the price goes back down I'll get another case.

For some reason we have to keep a battery charger on the battery in my camper. This has been going on for several years, although long after I moved out of it. Even a new battery did not help. I have just got to get it clean out when the weather gets cooler. There was a bad big roach situation going on in there, they are all dead now, but dead roaches all over the floor, I hate to even open the door. I never had any issues when I lived in it. It all started when I got my old camper moved here from a cousin's disgusting yard, mice and roaches. Its all under control but I still have to clean up the after math of it all. No mice in the camper though, but they did get into my bus, which also needs to be cleaned out. Yuck

I mentioned yesterday that I went to an Albertsons. I always liked Albertsons. I wish I was closer to one.

Its a good thing I stocked up on 64 oz canning jars last year, this year they are a huge premium if you can even find any. Maybe they will show up later in the season.

Dh had been using his battery charger for the camper, he showed me what it is and I just ordered two.

Gotta go and try to get some things done this afternoon. The time just fritters away sitting here in front of my computer.

I would love to have some canned liverwurst for my pantry. Cary loves the stuff, but we always get it in the deli section of the grocery store. I didn't know it came in a can, too. Too bad Underwood doesn't have a direct link that I can order from. I checked. Both Amazon and Walmart are still giving out an outrageous amount for theirs. My Walmart site is showing 6 can packages for $45+. This is the 4.25oz cans.

give any thought to buying retail liverwurst - liver sausage and re-canning it? .... opportunity to add to it and personalize the recipe ....

It definitely doesn't have a USDA approved process. The biggest issue is going to be density... I'd suggest using the smallest jelly jars (1/2 cup)if you're going to try it.

I been working at the food pantry I think 8 years. It's twice a month and it's my day away.
So I started taking the boys with me.
We went today and they really enjoy it.
We have had a much smaller amount of people coming, for a long time and everyone says it's because of stimulus money, UE, increase in benefits, etc.
We usually hit somewhere around 60 people, now it's 20-25.
But it's still good to go as I made friends there and the kids enjoy it.
No hiking trips lately. Too hot and back can't do it. I can sit and rest at the pantry.
Been sick a few days. Weak dizzy and GI issues.

Sis and nephew back in hospital 3 days now. He is severely disabled and they wouldn't let her come back with him for 3 hours. Then they screwed up his medical care. She really needs to be with at all times. They gave her a sheet to sleep on the floor of all things. They are finally in a room. They have no idea what they are doing and have never had a patient with this diagnosis.
This is Advent health hospital in altamonte springs Florida. It's bad.
When they got there the first day, there were 7 other ambulances waiting to unload.
She says telemed is the go to and if doc can't treat that way, they send you to ER.
Well almost all these patients get a script and sent home. But they are clogging up the hospital big time.
Per nurses there, "Most of these patients have already been vaccinated".

I vacuum sealed some butter and heavy cream powder, pecans, walnuts, coffee creamer. Mylar bagged coffee and tea. Have onions I will dehydrate this evening. I'm looking forward to Labor Day weekend when I have 5 days to clean and organize.

Hope it's a good week without jab requirement emails for those of us who work a job.
How do you use the heavy cream powder? Does it have a good shelf life? Is butter powder for cooking?

Thanks, that's what I've been doing. I'm careful not to breathe or touch nasty stuff without a mask and gloves.

I just ordered another 2 cases of Keystone beef and pork. 12 cans per case. 28oz cans. They're still out of ground beef.

Canned meats and more variety added to all my canned veggies are what I'm going to be concentrating on for the time being. Cary wants to buy more gas cans, and fill them, too. We have plenty, but we want enough put back to keep the generator running for the freezers as long as possible should it become necessary.

Been splitting and stacking firewood all morning. We only got less than 1/3 of the trailer load done. It's a huge load. Cary lets me run the splitter. He does the loading and stacking. Gets more done when both of us are working together.

I'll be working on tomatoes this afternoon. I've got a little room in one freezer, so instead of trying to can one or two quarts every other day, I'm going to just put them in the freezer. I'm sharing tomatoes with our DIL, so that cuts down on how many I have to deal with. I've got around 50 qts of home canned tomatoes from two years ago, and plenty of store bought canned tomatoes, too, already in my pantry.
