Almost done with my Walmart order.

Husband is working in the garage trying to sort through everything we brought from the farm.

I'm working on the pantries and doing an inventory of canned goods. I'm a bit behind but the new shelf unit will help.

Stopped at a yard sale in our little town on Friday. Someone there was a leather worker and I bought a large box of leather for $10. I'll keep most of it but have some set aside to give my youngest son so he has plenty for making leather knife sheaths (he is a blacksmith who makes many knives). I always find many uses for leather because I make many things.

We have family from New Orleans headed up here, on the road as I write this, to escape Hurricane Ida. They will get here in a few hours.

They are supposed to be bringing me a real, genuine Muffalotta from Central Grocery.

I am glad to provide emergency food and shelter to my sisters and their families when New Orleans is threatened.

Even more so, since they headed to Central Grocery in the French Quarter yesterday evening and bought 5 of those precious sandwiches before they left, putting them in a cooler to ride out the 400 mile journey.

Our supper, once the family arrives, will be Muffalotta sandwiches and strawberry ice cream for dessert. (I will provide the ice cream.)

The life of a prepper is good!

Hit Aldi's the other day and stocked up on the 85/15 rolls of hamburger at $3.19. Cheaper than anything else out there and it is good. I try to get 3 or 4 a week to toss in the freezer. I always pick up 4 cans of cream of chicken soup each time I go in there as well.

Hit Publix today and got a bunch of minor things--cereal, taco shells, refried beans, blackberries to freeze. Saved a bunch as most everything was BOGO.

Had a dental appointment today to fix a filling I've had since I was 12. Grabbed a couple of the small tubes of toothpaste on the way out. Have a bunch of those, but will always get more.

prudentwatcher- I hope your foot is on the mend.

I just took the pressure canner off the heat for the 2nd time this afternoon. I canned 16 of the (24 oz) jars of potatoes. I’m not sure how many potatoes are still in the basement but I feel better having canned these and the ones in the stew veggies since they never hold up long in storage for us.

The 2 items from my last Sam’s order finally arrived today along with my Walmart order. Cleaning products and first aid supplies are in much better shape.

To all in Ida’s path, prayers up for your safety.

Two Reminders:

- If the hurricane hits NOLA, gas prices will go up.

- There is a strong rumor of a US trucker strike on Aug. 31 (this Tuesday).

Even if the strike doesn't materialize, word is getting out, and there might be a run on groceries, anyway.

Today we harrowed the tomatoes under along with the rest of the melons. Planted fall crops. Started to rain just as we finished. The sugar cane is about 12 ft tall and the canes are starting to sugar in. First time we have grown it. Peanuts and sweet potatoes look great. I peeked at the sweet potatoes! 6 more weeks and we will be digging those and the peanuts. I plan on boycotting on 8/31 which is what I understand the truckers want? As to all the rest God help us. Praying that those of you who are sleepless...me included... will find rest and peace. Be safe everyone.

I don't know where this month has gone, but I feel like I have not accomplished much - at least what was on my list. We did get more chickens ordered and a place set up for them. DH has cleaned up a bunch and done around 4 trips to the scrap metal dealer. He also had to go out of state to help out his newly-widowed sister. I have given up on weeding and am concentrating on harvesting, but it's a challenge as I can't really run both the freezedryer and can at the same time. We got over 50 gallons of cider made with help from friends (that we shared it with). Most of my time I feel has been spent spinning my wheels as I am majorly stressed at work over being mandated to be vaccinated. Thankfully for the moment, I have an exemption.
