Darrell E. Brooks, the main suspect in last year’s Waukesha, Wisconsin, Christmas parade massacre is now facing 71 fresh charges after prosecutors filed an amended complaint on Wednesday.

Brooks Jr., 39, was facing already six counts of homicide in the deaths of those killed when he smashed into the parade in an SUV on Nov. 21, as Breitbart News reported.

Most of the new charges against Brooks are for recklessly endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

The expanded charges include 61 counts of 1st degree recklessly endangering safety, six counts of hit-and-run involving death, two bail jumping felonies, and two counts of misdemeanor domestic abuse charges.

In total, six people died in the incident on Nov. 21, including one young child.

Wilhelm Hospel, 81, Virginia Sorenson, 79; LeAnna Owen, 71; Tamara Durand, 52, Jane Kulich, 52, and Jackson Sparks, 8, were killed.

The six first-degree intentional homicide charges Brooks faced each were paired with counts of hit-and-run involving death. Each hit-and-run charge carries a possible 15-year sentence.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on Friday for a preliminary hearing in the case.

Brooks has a criminal record dating back to 1999, and was convicted of statutory sexual seduction in 2006 after having sex with a 15-year-old girl, who later became pregnant.

Though Brooks allegedly fled the scene of a domestic disturbance prior to the attack, police made note that his alleged act of plowing an SUV into crowds of innocent people attending a Christmas parade was “intentional,” the motive for which still remains unknown.

Contrary to initial reports, Brooks was not being chased by police at the time of the attack.

In the days following the tragedy, Brooks’ mother penned a lengthy letter charging that the American legal system failed to provide her mentally ill son adequate resources throughout his life.

Is the death penalty an option?

Wisconsin was one of the first states to outlaw the death penalty.

ETA

wiki,

Capital punishment in Wisconsin was abolished in 1853. Wisconsin was one of the earliest United States states to abolish the death penalty, and is the only state that has performed only one execution in its history.
Since its admission to the Union in 1848, as the 30th State, the only execution carried out in Wisconsin was that of immigrant farmer John McCaffary, who was hanged on August 21, 1851 in Kenosha County for drowning his wife in a backyard cistern.[1]

Wisconsin abolished the death penalty in 1853, just two years after McCaffary's execution.[2][3]
In 2006, an advisory referendum showed 55.5% of Wisconsin voters were in favor of reinstating capital punishment. The state legislature did not adopt any statute to apply the popular vote.

Wisconsin is overall a very liberal state. They were the 49th state to allow concealed carry AT ALL, be it may issue or shall issue. Gun racks in pickups are against the law there. EMPTY GUN RACKS.

Waukesha Christmas Parade Killer Withdraws Insanity Plea
Jeremy Segal
2 - 3 minutes

Darrell Brooks, Jr. the BLM supporting mass murderer who rammed his SUV through the crowd at the Waukesha, WI Christmas Parade last fall has changed his plea in his upcoming trial for a second time.

As we previously reported, in February Brooks plead not guilty.

Witnesses said that as the vehicle barreled through the parade it picked up speed.

** 18 Children were injured and sent to hospitals in the demonic attack.
** 62 individuals were injured in total
** 6 died including a child

8-year-old Jackson Sparks died in the hospital two days after the attack when the BLM driver ran over him and dozens of others at the Christmas parade.

However in June, Brooks changed his plea from not guilty to not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. This past Friday Sept 9, Brooks changed his mind again, and withdrew his insanity plea.

Brooks’s mother told CBS 58 “Darrell has suffered from mental health issues since he was very young…” for which he received counseling and medication but as an adult a “decision was made that he no longer suffered a mental illness.”

The Journal Sentinel reports:

In court Friday, under procedural questioning from Judge Jennifer Dorow, Brooks offered little explanation for that decision.

“I have my own reasons why,” he said, after confirming he had discussed the pros and cons of his decision with his attorneys to again continue on a straight not guilty plea.

In August Judge Dorow ruled against two defense motions to dismiss the case. Jury selection in the case is scheduled for September 19 and the trial is scheduled to begin on October 3.

Brooks is charged with six counts of first-degree intentional homicide and 71 other criminal counts.

Waukesha Christmas parade suspect Darrell Brooks had to be removed from the courtroom before opening statements of his trial after repeatedly interrupting the judge at the start of proceedings. Brooks, who is representing himself, has refused to follow the court's instructions and has repeatedly tried to delay court proceedings.

Maybe he's going to change his plea to not guilty by reason of mental defect? Not sure it would work but hell, it's his hole he's digging . . .

Accused Waukesha parade killer Darrell Brooks 'afraid as hell' of contracting COVID, requests adjournment
Accused Waukesha, Wisconsin, parade killer Darrell Brooks said Wednesday that he is "afraid as hell" of possibly contracting COVID-19 and requested an adjournment during his continued pretrial hearing, in which he is representing himself.

"When I was brought in there and they told me they had to test me for COVID, I was immediately, like, what do you mean you have to test me for this? … Immediately, in my head, I started to get afraid that they even had to test for COVID," Brooks said during his hearing livestreamed by FOX 6 Milwaukee of receiving a COVID-19 test in prison.

"I'm afraid as hell," Brooks, who is accused of killing six Christmas parade attendees last November, said later of contracting the virus.

The suspect reported losing his sense of taste on Tuesday night.

"I didn't know what it was at first, because it started with fatigue. … I said, ‘Man, I don’t know if this is just me being tired.' That's what I initially thought it was. Maybe I'm just a little bit exhausted, but I said, ‘No, anybody knows their body.' It's got to be something more, because … I don't even have an appetite, and when I'm trying to eat, I can't even taste anything," Brooks said of his symptoms.

Prosecutors said they believed Brooks' narrative about possibly having COVID-19 is an attempt to further delay hearings, which Brooks disputed.

"That was not polite. That was abuse … by the prosecution," he said.

Judge refuses to delay trial after Waukesha parade suspect says he has COVID
WAUKESHA, Wis. (WBAY) - The judge overseeing the trial against Darrell Brooks denied a request to adjourn after the man accused of driving his vehicle through the Waukesha Christmas parade told the court he’s on COVID-19 protocol.

Brooks has not yet tested positive, but while he waits for his results the case will move forward.

Brooks told the judge he was not given a rapid test and said he wouldn’t take one if she got one for him. A jail administrator testified Wednesday they offer rapid tests and one was offered to Brooks.

“Your Honor, I’m afraid I’m fully vaccinated and I’ve never had COVID. I don’t, I don’t know what I’m looking at here. I don’t, um, that was the last thing I was hoping I would be told today, Your Honor,” Brooks said.

Prosecutors accuse Brooks of trying to stall.

“I can advise the Court, as an officer of the court, that Mr. Brooks has been saying for the last several weeks in his recorded jail, calls to his mother and others, that he’s going to get this trial delayed,” Waukesha County District Attorney Sue Opper said.

Brooks is representing himself in the murder trial. Throughout the day, Brooks continued to object and was sent to another room to take part in the trial by video conference, where he used a sign to object.

If they told Brooks they empty the courtroom waste paper baskets daily - he would object on that as somehow impeding his ability to make a proper defense.

ANY reason is a good one to delay/obfuscate/confuse.

Court appointed defense lawyer next.
