Wasn’t 5here @ sudden increase in methane levels in various parts of the arctic like within the last ten years? If so then this is not good, at all.

I think methane is being released from both permafrost and ocean deposits, although at this point I think it's still in relatively small quantities (compared to the potential) that we and the Earth can tolerate. But I haven't followed that so I don't really know. Interestingly enough, the Siberian Traps (which isn't really all that close to the OP volcano -- I was just being facetious with that) apparently may have triggered an increase in global methane ... from Wikipedia: "A recent hypothesis put forward is that the volcanism triggered the growth of Methanosarcina, a microbe that then spewed enormous amounts of methane into Earth's atmosphere, ultimately altering the Earth's carbon cycle ..." As to why I threw out the Siberian Traps in the first place (again from Wikipedia): "The Siberian Traps are believed to be the primary cause of the Permian–Triassic extinction event, the most severe extinction event in the geologic record." Oh yes, the Kamchatka Peninsula is quite the volcanic and earthquake zone!
