EBOLA US Government ordered 160,000 Haz-Mat suits designed for Ebola...

Just heard that on Fox News at 1:45 pm (EST), and then came online to see if I could get a source. Well, it was reported here a few days ago:

I've been trying really hard to convince myself that this Ebola business will be well-contained within the good ol' US of A, but after hearing about the 160,000 special suits, I'm a little more concerned.

We're being told - again and again and again - that this virus isn't going to spread, but the government orders 160,000 suits? You have to admit, their actions aren't matching their words.

BTW, if you want one of your very own, it's $1,200. Make no mistake, the US taxpayers are paying for those 160,000 suits (and dearly), but they're for the special people. ;)

on monday, i processed over 600 pounds of biohazard suits bound for CNN HQ in atlanta

Any idea of how many suits that might be?

Ok, just checked. A level A Bio suit is 2 lbs so that would make around 300 suits sent to CNN if they were like the ones in the link above.

Sort of old news. Was discussed either in August or September. If I recall correctly, 130,000 of them were destined for West Africa to support the efforts over there. At the time we did the math on how many of these suits they burn through a day since they do not re-use them unless they have no new ones. They apparently treat them as single-use suits.

I believe we used an example of 500 HCW using 4 suits a day = 2,000 suits a day. 130,000 suits would last them 65 days or a little over 2 months.

The suit in the link is a Kappler Responder Level-A suit. They are the type you decontaminate and re-use. I am able to pay around $600 for the same suit through a distributer if I buy 10 or more. The government would be able to buy direct from the manufacturer for less.

Just re-read the article and it says the suits were purchased from Lakeland. Their suits go for much less and of much lower quality. I also doubt they are buying Level A suits and instead buying level B splash suits...but you never know
