I have a question regarding the eruption and freely admit that I'm not remotely qualified in volcanology to come up with an answer.

It's my understanding that the western side of the island is in danger of subsidence into the sea and that it's this mechanism that would cause the tsunami everyone is (rightly) concerned about. If this is the case, would not the ongoing steams of lava on the western side increase that area's weight and increase the chances of collapse? If not, why not? I understand that the output of lava is a relatively small amount of the land's total weight, but it would seem to be not insignificant and it's growing daily.

Well, they have had twelve 4.0 plus earthquakes over the last 30 days, and three of those were in the last few hours. A 4.0 EQ ten hour ago, a 4.5 EQ six hours ago and a 4.1 EQ almost two hours ago.
Makes you wonder what is next.

I’m not quite yet at the OMG, she’s getting ready to blow. But you know it is getting close from the rate of 4.0 quakes checking in.

but I am checking the elevations of mountain tops closest to me, and preparing the Most essential items to backpack Up to their tops in the most efficient manner possible, for any necessary evacuation with maybe only a two hour window of escape.

1/3 of all people around an ocean at risk is a fairly large percentage we could be talking about.
the life you save may actually be your own.

Well if you listen to the screaming karens on youtube it'll be 1,000 meters in height. That said the gulf is shallow in comparisons to parts of the east coast, I'd expect anything from a few inches to a few feet in height. I suppose a study of the different wave heights of the 2005 Boxer Day tsunami would be on order.

hmmm, we already knew a huge lava stream would be coming from the 14:54 release from the baby vents and that the flow would be making it's way down the volcano towards towns/ocean. so it seems they are saying there was another one in a different place too.

My ten cents worth here, due to inflation. This may be it, it may be the big one. Then again it may do what Tambora did, it would produce huge amounts of lava, quakes, and the cone would grow, and then go quite for a few months.

This happened over an 18 month period, Dutch scientists at the time assured the gov't that it would quite down. It did not as we all now know. La Palma could do the same thing, is all I'm saying.

So if it goes quite after what seems like a major eruption I wouldn't ignore it as it could produce more eruptions in the foreseeable future.

Remember how in 2011 the Japan earthquake caused, not a wave, but a steady rise in the water that flooded the land. No sudden wave but a sudden rising tide of floodwater rushing inland. I think if it happens this way with any LaPalma collapse that it could be in a similar way and the water would rush up rivers and flood plains filling all the available areas with floodwaters just like happened in Japan to devastating effects. Do you think it could happen like this instead of a wave? A wave wouldn't go more than about 12 miles inland, I've heard, but rising floodwaters could go farther inland especially when it follows rivers and floodplains.

It sounds to me like the people at whatever other site you are talking about are the ones trying to play people.

Kind of like asking magic 8 ball if the world will end, only in the case of Alexa it seems to be more about wording, accents and specificity of the question on what kind of answer you get.
