I think it's only being asked for to have a convenient excuse to not have elections. I think he wants this request denied because frankly having elections in the middle of a war is just too much hassle for everyone involved.

About a week ago Lindsey Graham, Richard Bluenthal and Elizabeth Warren flew to Ukraine and had a very long talk and one was if Trump made it back into office all funding for the war may come to an end.
I did say I expect congress to give away few billion dollars to the Ukraine in hopes that a good chunk of it will find it's way back to the U.S.A. to be used as large campaign donations for democrats.
