Windows Twice I've gotten a full screen popup - microsoft warning

This has happened twice now - just this week.

It's a full size screen that pops up - and a red screen pops up too. Telling me there is a possible problem with windows. It says it's from microsoft - they've detected a problem. I know not to call, etc. The popup looks fake.

The 2nd/last time this happened I was on AOL news - it covered my screen and it took me a while to x out of it.

Both times I've followed with a Webroot scan and a Malwarebytes scan with nothing coming up.

My question is: Is this possibly related to the website I was on? Or is this something with my computer? I would think it's with the website as it's only happened twice and my anti-malware has found nothing. I can't remember with the first time it happened what site I was on.

I googled this and there are a couple of similar popups/comments but not identical to my popup.

If you have an answer for me - thanks in advance!

PS Just deleted my browsing history, cookies, etc. Maybe that will end this popup issue.

Malware bytes isn't always catching everything....I added "Bitdefender" to my machine and it seems a little more powerful...

Got my third popup last night - it was different from the other two. I saw this same wording other people noted when I goggled my 2 popups yesterday: Microsoft - missing our out-of-date windows drivers may be affecting your PC's performance. Update now.

Yep - I got a malware that made it through BOTH Malwarebytes and Webroot!

So, I think I'll replace the Webroot with another anti-viral/anti-malware.

PCMatic advertises good coverage - think I'll check out them.

Edited: not seeing such great reviews for PCMatic.

Follow up: Per Webroot - this was not a malware or virus issue - I needed to delete cookies from the particular browser involved with the 'popup'. I did not do that. I did not know I was using a second browser. Webroot found the particular 'popup' and showed me what was happening.

Good to know.

Anyway...all good now.

I, too, got that screen supposedly from Microsoft. I just did a system shutdown. Malwarebytes and Webroot did not find anything.
