CHAT Trying to refinance a V.A. home loan.

So, it seems that the v.a. appraisal cannot be scheduled for at least 8 weeks. Then, who knows how long until they can come out to do the walk around.

I am thinking there is nefarious ****ery afoot with this.

It is all crashing around us, and my family wanted to refinance ( restructure some debt) to minimize exposures to hyperinflation that is coming.

V.a. will only rate lock for 70 days. We were told by the lender of origination to let the lock go and wait for 30 days to re lock ( the 30 days is mandatory wait time according to v.a.) as we have already been waiting since beginning of september.

This whole shitshow is about to go full commie get in the boxcar.

Just a gut feeling, and my gut is rarely wrong to any significant degree.

They mean to take everything from us.

Appraisal turn times have been frustrating this year. Some areas in my state are seeing 8-10 weeks to get back an appraisal. There aren't enough appraisers to handle all the work and turn times get pushed out as a result. Good luck with your refinance. It will be worth the wait.

I just did it last month...Appraiser called and told me next Tuesday, or it would be several weeks; although I wanted to spruce things up, I took the Tuesday appt. (glad I did, after reading your post). He came from across the state, so I think there is a dearth of them. It actually went very smoothly. I went through Veterans United.

Typically VA appraisers have 10 working days to complete an assignment. When one was past two weeks I called and the VA rep stated that due to the volume, they can no longer hold the appraisers to this standard. So I believe it is a function of market activity. Hang in there! Fed meeting soon and may decide to curtail the purchase of mortgage backed securities which could have an upward impact on rates. If you locked now/soon, can you extend the lock? Lender should be able to do this. Lock etxn fees may be preferable to higher rate move, should they go in that direction.

This has been "normal" since mid 2020....some of the properties my wife has sold appraisals have literally been done from desktop computer and pictures others on a drive by.

While Vets are some of her favorite clients, working with VA loans not so much. Good luck

We are finishing up a VA refi on our place, with closing on Monday. We used Rocket Mortgage, and everything went very quickly. Our appraisal came out $100K higher than we expected, so we will be able to do as you are and getting clear of all debts except the house. If your company is giving you the runaround I can recommend ours. Hope you're able to git 'er done!

Whatever you do - DO NOT take out a Forbearance. Talk about screwing up a refi besides it conficts with the VA raising the interest rate

I agree. I advise just staying calm and keep pushing until the refi happens. It's sounds like you're positioning yourself as well as you can under the circumstances.

Rates are going nowhere. Relax. The Fed can't raise rates as it will swamp the entire federal fisc. We owe 30 trillion. What's the overnight rate on 30 trillion? I remember a million used to be a couple grand.
