Well consider it harder Don, as Bolton would be an excellent choices as SOS. "Considering" and "GOING WITH" are miles apart. Trump can 'consider' anybody...but I DO understand and agree with Trump's mindset on "announcing now, the msm would just have a ton of time to savage them."

Fair use.

Trump: I'll Consider John Bolton For Secretary of State
By: Aaron Bandler - August 12, 2016

GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump just made a statement on foreign policy that should come as pleasant news to conservatives: he would consider former U.S. ambassador John Bolton to be his Secretary of State.

Trump appeared on Hugh Hewitt's radio show on Thursday, and Hewitt suggested that Trump could blunt the "Too Dangerous" attack used by his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton by picking Bolton as his Secretary of State and Jim Talent as his Secretary of Defense. Trump scoffed at the idea at first, pointing out that if he announced his picks for State and Defense, they would be savaged by the media throughout the election.

Hewitt countered back that Bolton and Talent "would make Team Trump look massively experienced right away, and the Too Dangerous argument goes away."

Trump seemed more open to the idea at that point.

"I think John Bolton’s a good man," Trump said. "I watched him yesterday, actually, and he was very good in defending me in some of my views, and very, very strong. And I’ve always liked John Bolton. Well, we are thinking about it, Hugh. I will say that. We are thinking about it. I mean, the negative is what I told you. But we are seriously thinking about it."

I've always liked John Bolton and had wondered why he had not been picked for a post since he was U.S. ambassador to the U.N.

Maybe because he's not like most of the weasels in the current administration?

Trump - and every other candidate - has to pad their words ... Bolton has a word or two in this discussion - Trump can only ask him and not announce that he'd be his Sec of State or any other cabinet position .... Bolton might bolt thinking about how ****ed up the US in a post Obammy world - you need to think about your good name and reputation in history - don't want to be another Neville Chamberlain ...

Apparently we are going to have to agree to disagree on this thread. I think Bolton's totally squared-away and "gets it" in international affairs.

And he loathes the U.N.!

Quick labels are often very inaccurate.
Bolton is a good choice and will fit with Mr. Trumps strong military, robust defense and anti interventionism philosophy.
We have had 15 years of unsuccessful wars, are now supporting at least 5 major foreign armies in four wars on two continents.
Bolton will have his work cut out for him.
Trump and Bolton would make a great negotiating team.

Bolton won't set up an illegal and grossly insecure email scheme.

Announcing a "Cabinet" before being elected puts those people in a tough position right now as the media would be all over them on their positions of policies Trump might announce. If they aren't all agreed on every single point, it could lead to the media making it seem like there were divisions in policies.

Just saying who his advisors are and who is supporting him really is sufficient for now......

Good choice, wish I could vote twice.

We are at war. A war for our survival, as a culture and as a nation.
John Bolton gets this. I am weary of a 15 year old war with a stupid set of rules of engage ment i.e. Don't bomb Isis oil shipments as is bad for the environment.
We need to turn our soldiers loose and end this once and for all.

Your and others, perception of Bolton is 180 out of phase from what I have observed. John puts the neocons shorts into a bunch.

While the guy might claim he is no neoconservative, his actions and choice of bedfellows makes it hard to believe. He has previously been apart of the CFR, was a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, board member of PNAC, JINSA, and CPSG. All these are littered with neocons. Then to put the icing on the cake he was instrumental in pushing the US into the Iraq FUBAR, a neocon war. If it walks like a duck.......

Now the guy has some good ideas or at least pays lip service to them, such as the ICC, the role of the UN, limited government, etc.

I just simply couldn't back him as Secretary of State or any other position that could influence foreign policy. I would wager that if he does get tapped for SoS, we will be in a shooting war with Iran within Trumps first term.

Trump wants to "bomb the hell out of ISIS" as soon as he can build up his military to where it needs to be. Then let it go fight unhindered.

If that means ISIS is in Iraq/Syria/Iran/anywhere else.......that is where Americans will go to rid the world of them, along with Middle Eastern allies......who he says, need to put some more effort and money into it.

Sure doesn't sound like Bolton is against Israel.

"Israel does not have much time to make a “fateful decision” about whether to strike Iran’s nuclear sites, former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton said Sunday in a radio interview.

“Israel, I think, now faces the fateful decision whether it will allow Iran to get nuclear weapons, thus constituting a true existential threat to Israel,” he said.

“Or whether they will strike as the Israelis have done twice before against nuclear programs in the hands of hostile states,” Bolton told WABC Radio’s Aaron Klein.

After doing a search on John Bolton's stance on Israel I feel it's plain to see that he is pro Israel. He stated a while back that "Israel should have bombed Iran yesterday."

Everything I looked at was pro Israel in regards to Israel. If anyone can find a negative in this regard please post.

Pride comes before the fall.....Pride month ended.
Bolton is not a patriot. I believe he is a CFR member. His stance is not what it should be. He is on the record of saying things that are not what we want to hear. Hawk 101

Well if trump were to pick him, I think he'd prolly soften his position on nato.

Bolton said the United States contributes so heavily to NATO “because fewer Americans will die, if we deter Russia or other aggressors from invading.”

He accused Trump of “encouraging Russian aggression” with his statements to the New York Times, calling them “a dagger at the heart of the most successful military/political alliance in human history. He needs to retract it, and change his position.”

I dunno if he's a neo con, but there seems to be a conflict of interest here

If there are still undecided voters, this suggested appointment may help them decide.

I liked Bolton as U.N. ambassador. I've always agreed with his comments and he doesn't relish taking crap from other countries. IMHO, the jury is still out on how well he would function as Secretary of State.

Talk is cheap
Well, some MSM and several other sources are claiming now that Cruz wants Bolton for Security Advisor. If Cruz likes him, that is a big red flag for me, and you'd think he would have no say it in.

Cruz reveals who he wants Trump to pick for national security advisor (*fair use)

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, a Republican, is urging President Donald Trump to pick former United Nations Ambassador John Bolton as his national security adviser, following retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn's resignation from the post earlier this week.

"One person I think would be very, very strong is John Bolton," Cruz told CNN's Manu Raju Friday. "He is someone who understands the world; he understands the threats of radical Islamic terrorism."

While choosing Bolton, who served as former President George W. Bush's UN ambassador during the Iraq War, would win a lot conservative support, some Republicans- especially those within the libertarian wing of the GOP- would likely be quite upset with the pick.

For example, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) was vehemently opposed to Bolton when he was being floated in November as a potential pick to helm the State Department. Paul, in a scathing op-ed at Rare, lambasted Bolton as a longtime member of the failed Washington elite "who is hell-bent on repeating virtually every foreign policy mistake the U.S. has made in the last 15 years."

At a time when Americans thirst for change and new thinking, Bolton is an old hand at failed foreign policy, Paul wrote. "The man is a menace."

Paul, who would like to see the U.S. scale back its presence internationally, has long taken issue with the former ambassador for his support of the Iraq War and regime change in the Middle East. At the time, he called Bolton "totally unfit¨ for secretary of state.

Cruz told CNN he understands Paul's concerns and believes Bolton agrees that the U.S. should not be too quick to engage in military intervention.

"When it comes to foreign policy, Rand and I do not see eye-to-eye," Cruz said. "I share Rand's concern that we should not be overeager to engage in military conflict. That's exactly right and I actually think John Bolton agrees with that proposition as well."

In addition, the Texas lawmaker argued Bolton could help the Trump administration toughen its perspective on Russia.

"He understands the threats of an overaggressive [Russian President Vladimir] Putin" Cruz said of Bolton. "And at the same time, an understanding that we should be reluctant to use military force, that we should do so only when absolutely necessary."

There have been renewed concerns voiced about Trump's worldview regarding Russia this week, following reports ¡X which the White House denies ¡X that members of his team had "repeated contacts" with Russian intelligence officials prior to Inauguration Day.

As TheBlaze previously reported, Trump's first choice to replace Flynn- retired Navy Vice Adm. Robert Harward- turned down the offer from the White House. A friend of Harward told CNN's Jake Tapper that the admiral rejected the job because the administration appears too "chaotic" and he sees the offer as a "s**t sandwich."
