The Economist pointed to the growing diversity of gun owners in America and noted that it is “bad for gun-control advocates.”

According to The Economist, a study by of Northeastern University shows that of the millions of first time buyers between January 2019 and April 2021, “half were female, a fifth black and a fifth Hispanic.”

Moreover, The Economist noted that “the share of black adults who joined the gun-owning ranks, 5.3%, was more than twice that of white adults.”

The demographics are a marked shift from 2015, when first time gun buyers “skewed white and male.”
Gun ownership changes things, thus The Economist observed that people who own guns “are more politically active around gun issues than non-owners.”

Therefore, a drop in gun control support at this point in American history is not altogether surprising. On November 17, 2021, Breitbart News pointed to Gallup’s findings that support for stricter gun control was at its lowest point since 2014.

Gallup’s findings are in line with The Economist’s opinion that the growing diversification of gun owners is “bad for gun-control advocates.”

This is very true. For years the fastest growing segment of the gun owner community were women, and that trend continues. But the large number of Blacks and Hispanics who over the last couple of years realized that the cops weren't coming to save them is causing them to arm up. Yes, you have your high profile groups of blacks. But it is the normal, law abiding, business owning, hard working blacks and Hispanics waking up that is changing the mix the fastest.

I hadn’t thought of things this way before, but gun control is going to be a more difficult sell when ownership is very diversified. Maybe there is some hope...

All of the firearms control laws going back to the NFA act were for the purpose of keeping firearms out of the hands of minorities and keeping them defenseless. Back in the day whites were told not to worry about the law, it didn't apply to them, until it did. More and more minorities are waking up.

The best example was the African American gentleman interviewed in Arizona back IIRC 2020 at a Trump event dressed in corporate casual and with a slung AR and IIRC also a pistol on his belt. The TV newsperson was completely flumoxed by him. :vik:
