Swelling in the leg and foot

My sister-in-law is having swelling in one leg and foot . At first the swelling was from the knee to the tips of the toes with the foot and toes being red. Now there is some swelling up to the hip.

She is under a doctors care and has spent several days in the hospital having all kinds of test but they still do not seem to know what is causing the problem. They asure her that it is not a blood clot.

Any ideas?

Lymph nodes drain water also. Sounds like ONE LEG swelling is a lymph problem.
another clue is the cellulitis (RED LINES) you said radiated from her toes up to leg

cellulitis is and can be a deadly infection. Which again, first line of defence is the lymph nodes.

and God forbid - cancer, which also gets caught up in, and grows in lymph

Tell her to drink cranberry juice

Sometimes it's a kidney thing. Drinking cranberry juice can help
