As one of my classmates put it, with regards to Bush getting elected:

"Starting praying pagans, cause we're all going to hell!" :shkr: :sht:

I'm hoping that Kerry will win, but I have a feeling that Bush will win.

I should have voted Constituional Party... it's the one I had considered voting for in the first place...

I feel so dirty.... :kk2: :kk1:

God forgive me of what I've done...

God, I wish I knew who won this bloody thing and that it would just be over with.

For some reason, until recently when I had gotten my absentee ballot, I didn't really CARE who the next prez. was going to be. Now I'm already sick of it....

How strange....

We have been. We've been living under a would-be-theocrat for four years, and now we get to do it again.

I wonder how long before they declare us "subversives" and cart us away to camp X-ray or wherever.

I would love to be able to say I'm being paranoid and that this could never happen in America.

Sadly, I can't.

The fun is just beginning

Remember the "Contract With America"???? The GOP was actually saying the voters gave them "a mandate."

El Shrubbo thinks he was "Called by God" to be president in the first place. Now that he's won, it's divine intervention and his policies are all positively what's best for the rest of us. :kk2:

He'll forget the narrow margin of victory and say he was given a mandate by the voters.

Look for:
Reinstitution of the draft
Expansion of the war to other countries he's paranoid about
Tighter "patriot" act
National ID
Mandatory health exams - not just MENTAL health. it's for your own good

Brother, these dramatics really crack me up. It is pathetic. Maybe I need to go huddle with my classmates, who don't provide for themselves, have very little life experience, have never raised a family, shoot, they haven't don't anything but think about themselves for 18 - 21 yrs. Yeah, there's some valid input.

Maybe you just need to pray for wisdom.

Did you realize that the Administration has consistently said the draft would NOT be reinstated even with all of the rumor mongering?

Did you realize the only Bill introduced in the House of Representatives to revive the draft was introduced by a Democrat, Charles Rangle, and had about 10 Democratic co-sponsors?

Did you stomp hard when this Bill was introduced? I think you need to back away from the Democratic spin machine for a bit.

Will there be a draft? Theoretically, there could always be one in time of national emergency. Likely? Probably not as which ever party gets one passed knows they will lose the next election.

You know as well as I do that "politician" and "liar" are practically synonyms.

Probably not as which ever party gets one passed knows they will lose the next election.

You're presuming logic on the part of a president of minimal intellectual capacity who thinks he's on a mission from God. Not necessarily the best move.

This is all very interesting to me, as I have only recently (last couple of years) started following the news closer. I'm not just listening to one side anymore, and TB is varied in the members' stands.

The fears that the conservatives played on are now the same fears the liberals are playing on--only twisted around. When Clinton was in office I heard it was the conservative Christians who would be carted off. If we didn't do _____ and did do ____, *they* would be coming after us. Now I hear the same thing, just different classes of people being a *threat*, with Bush being in office. Not just on this message board, but in the meatworld and personal emails.

Some things are the same---like if you are stashing food or homeschool--then you are a threat..

I do believe that God is ultimately in control of who is in office. Whether it be democrat, republican, or _________.

Mandate? who cares...but here are the facts.

Bush just got more popular votes (for those mentally challenged - that means more people voted for him) than ANY OTHER PERSON IN THE HISTORY OF THE COUNTRY. And, the first time since 1988 that a candidate has received over 50% of the popular vote....Yes my liberal friends even more than President Clinton -- either time.

But yes, Pray for him and our country - we can all still use it.

Kerry ALSO got more popular votes

That's a misnomer. There was a record turnout for this election and BOTH candidates "got more popular votes than any candidate in history."

So that's not saying much.

Bush did NOT win by a wide margin, it wasn't a landslide victory, and the country is HARDLY united.

I hate Washington. I hate Federals. I hate Yankees.

Where, oh, where, is a REAL leader?

Nope. No misnomer at all...fine both candidates got more votes than anyone previously....but uh....who got MORE out of these 2....uh HUH, lets say it together now -- BUSH. So there is NO misnomer - BUSH got more popular votes than any candidate in history. period. end of story.

You hate Yankees??? Damn they were about the only ones you could count on to deliver states for your candidate...life must be hell for you.

I didn't vote for Kerry, Slydersdan

.....I'm a Libertarian

Bush didn't win a landslide victory and the fact that he got "more popular votes than any candidate in history" means nothing because his opponent did too.

Two or three million more hardly gives ANYONE a mandate in my opinion. The election was too close to say that everyone wanted this guy and that everyone wants the policy he will propose.....which is what the 'he got more votes" folks want you to think

But believe as you will

I'm Really sorry for you then....not that I disagree with you - heck I almost voted for Badnarik, but Libertarians are the Rodney Dangerfield of the political spectrum - they get No Respect. And I apologize for assuming you are a Democrat. [edited for clarity]

Again though as I said in my original post - who cares about a Mandate...when is the last time Any president had that??? Reagan maybe ? But the fact is Bush won, and now we have to deal with it....

That's what scares me, Slydersdan

NOW WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT!!!!

Four more years of seeing what was left of the constitution dismantled under the guise of protecting us.....

I'm right because God appointed me (during the first term) and a majority (albeit a small one) of the voters approved me (during the second).

I wish we'd find a real leader somewhere.....

Unfortuately I think it will just get worse. Now that Bush actually had a narrow but decisicve chunk of the popular vote, the Bush bashers are even angrier and more venemous. The good news is that this will put them even more out of touch with mainstream America, and lessen their credibility even more.

Bearded Weirdo, look it up....

El Shrubbo has said publicly that he thinks he was "called by God" to run for president.

I had to work for this idiot when I lived in Texas. If you read my posts, you know I'm a govt employee. One of the agencies I worked for was the Office of the Governor.

Bush didn't win by a "decided majority." The country was almost evenly split.

Hardly a mandate or a majority.

Go ahead and do your Sieg Heils to this cretin who is steadily eroding what freedom we have left as Americans.

Bearded Weirdo

Fruit Loop, last time I looked at the vote totals Bush was ahead by 3 percentage points. That is a decisive majority. 3 1/2 million votes is not a mandate, but it is a decisive victory. Please explain to me how it is not.

Also please explain to me exactly what freedoms President Bush has taken from you.

Oh, Good God, Bearded Weirdo, where have you been?

read the "Patriot Act" again.

Count up the breastfeeding mothers, little old ladies and babies in strollers who have been frisked at airports under the guise of "national security."

The libraries that have been raided, including a CHILDREN'S section to see what books patrons checked out.

A romance novelist was raided last year because she checked out a book on terrorism from the library for research on a book she was writing for Harlequin!!! Her manuscripts were seized (again, for romance novels) and her publisher has been harassed. Read all about THAT wonderful stakeout (yeah, the FBI had her house staked out) on the Romance Writers of America website!

Your ISP can be forced to give up the email info on every single subscriber.

That's just a few. All under the guise of 'protecting' us.

I had a migraine on Sunday that lasted until I finally went to the ER for IV meds on Tuesday. Now I know why. Christ knew I was going to need drugs to get through the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FL, I just went to the Romance Writers of America website and could not find anything about the Patriot Act or this novelist you are talking about. Could you please give me a link to the info.

Could you also please provide more information on the libraries checking up on the patrons.

An AP article a few years ago:

Another:

More reasons to stop library funding and to never use a library.

Also now used for the war on some drugs....cause remember, anything can be tied to terrorism:

I'll get the story, Bearded Weirdo

RWA took the story off because - guess what - they got complaints about it being "too political." I emailed a friend in my writer group and asked her to send it to me.

This writer is published and under contract for several more books. Her editor was also grilled by the FBI and they were harassed despite the fact that she's legit, has a contract, and presented them with the !@## manuscript! They took her computer, her disks and her computer. Her latest book is a year past due thanks to this crap. They gave back her laptop and she found out it was loaded with spyware. They actually had her house STAKED OUT! A romance novel writer, for God's sake! She's an American citizen and a plain old middle-aged white lady.

Fruit Loop,
My son is one of those federal inspectors and his job is about as thankless as an auditor for the IRS. The directives for frisking as you put it are very specific and are not done unless the area to be frisked cannot be checked by a hand held metal detector or a walk through detector. If a person has an orthopedic brace for instance an inspector of the same sex will inspect the device before allowing the passenger to board. If the person is a juvenille the adult parent or guardian has to present during the check. These frisks are done in a seperate room out of the general public for privacy sake. The very people that have forced this type of checks are the ones that would scream if a weapon was allowed on an aircraft. Remember the 9/11 hijacks were made by terrorists with box cutters. If you were an inspector and I guy wanted to carry a car drive shaft on the aircraft or knives guns explosives lighter fluid etc. and you were flying on that aircraft you would say foul. Don't fly if you feel your privacy is violated. Don't blame the poor guys doing their job to protect the remainder of the public. If that fails get a trial lawyer like John Edwards to sue the airlines and the government. Litigation like that should reduce the ticket costs on aircraft dramatically.

JT and Night Breeze........

please re-read what I said.

I do NOT love abortions. I do think sometimes it's the lesser of two evils - in that I don't think a rape victim should be forced to continue to suffer nine more months and give birth in more pain and blood, nor do I want to see a woman die from an illegal abortion ever again. I've wanted a child all my life and I think I'd consider myself blessed to conceive, by whatever means at this point.

Since I'm a devout Lutheran, and, incidentally, an ordained lay minister, it would be pretty stupid for me to hate God, now, wouldn't it???

The Shrub thinks he's chosen by God. I find that terribly pretentious and downright sacreligious, to say the least. Also dangerous. Be afraid of ANYONE who claims to speak for God. Pretty soon he'll be saying that since God ordained his election, God has approved his policies, so any Christian who doesn't support him is not a real Christian. OOps, sorry, you already think that.

Faith is a private matter. Furthermore, God gave us all the choice to choose Him or not. If people choose to accept or not accept God, that's between them and heaven.

Christians can't even agree on matters of dogma and Biblical interpretation. The Catholics think the Baptists are wrong, the Mormons have different beliefs, and I'm sure you dont' want to live by my Lutheran beliefs any more than I want to live under pentecostal doctrine. It's fine to have faith, it's fine to profess faith....but legislating faith??? I don't think so.

Night Breeze, the fact that searches are done by same sex or in privacy is irrelevant. I don't allow my DOCTOR to examine or touch my private parts. Why the hell would I let your kid do it, or should I???? Were the terrorists on 9-11 female American citizens??? You seem to have bought into the "well, it's just a little inconvenience, and it's for your own good, and there's no reason why you should find it embarrassing" crap. Yeah, I guess if they get to strip searches "there's no reason why I should be embarrassed since it's for safety" and "another woman will be doing it." Sorry, you can stuff that one.

one of my friends flew out of DFW right after 9-11. Because of the extra security, she tried to be helpful by not taking any carryon stuff other than her purse, wore stirrup pants and sandals and a tee shirt, and was traveling with her daughter. No good. She got pulled aside and when the ASSHOLE frisked her, he grabbed her breasts and squeezed. She had to submit to this SEXUAL ASSAULT and not defend herself because if she punched the jerk, as any woman would, SHE would go to jail. And what about the woman flying from NYC to Orlando who was forced to drink her own breast milk???? Sorry, I have zip sympathy for your son.

Save your suggestion that if I don't like it, quit flying. I ALREADY HAVE. But I will continue to voice displeasure since I think your "Put up or shut up" and "this is just how it has to be" is wrong. I have a right to do this (for now, anyway, till somebody destroys what's left of free speech.) If you find it offensive, I suggest that you put me on ignore. That's what it's for.

FL,

I have a friend whose mom was murdered. It was a very high profile FEDERAL case, my friend was most definately not a suspect. Guess what, the FBI followed him, tapped his phone, and just generally harassed him. This all occured duuring the end of Bush #1's term and into Clinton's first term, all before G.W. Bush came to office and the Patriot Act was enforced. FBI harassment has always occured. Now please tell me how if the government suspects you are a terrorist, then checks what books you have checked out from the library how this is taking away your civil rights.

Well if they only checked young middle eastern men then they (the libs) would be screaming about that. Let's face it, whatever GWB and his administration does, the liberal dems are going to piss, moan, and screech about it. Yet somehow GWB is the one dividing a nation.
