This is the third pilot dying in-flight that I've heard of lately. This incident will add a lot of fuel to the fire.

Fly The Friendly Skies

It looks like this Southwest thing is taking off. According to PJMedia, this is a coordinated effort by pilots, attendants, gate agents, and other folks to protest vaccine mandates.

The Freedom Flyers website is here, and there is more information at the link.

If, like me, you have been noticing shortages in the stores, one wonders if this is catching on?
Let Freedom ring!

I will accept any shortages or hardships that result from fighting tyranny..... including the loss of my job/career and all that entails.

American Airlines and Southwest Defy Anti-Mandate Texas Order but Legal Actions Underway

We reported previously that Texas might be throwing Southwest a lifeline by announcing a ban on the application of any vaccine mandates within the state.

However, now both American and Southwest, which are based in Texas, have announced that because of Joe Biden’s demand that all the employees of federal contractors have to be vaccinated by December 8, both airlines will be complying by continuing to mandate vaccinations for their employees, despite the order of the Texas Governor Greg Abbott. All the major airlines are federal contractors and they don’t want to lose that money. Both are requiring that employees submit proof of vaccination by November 24 — just in time to make things really difficult for the holiday season if there are more “sickouts” or people refusing to go along with it.

Despite that, Southwest employees are challenging the vaccine mandates in court and sought a temporary restraining order on Friday against the implementation of the mandate, noting that there was no conversation with the union over the implementation of the mandate. Notice Friday is also when the Southwest’s “issues” started.

Here's the Temporary Restraining Order the Pilot's Association filed against #SouthwestAirlines in federal court on Friday. https://t.co/o6zFK4zgJa
— Election Wizard (@ElectionWiz) October 10, 2021

In a notice, the union said that the company hadn’t had any discussion about natural immunity or the nature of possible exemptions, that they took unilateral actions, threatened possible termination and that they needed to have negotiations with the union.

American Airlines pilots have warned of a possible “staffing shortage” as well, which is why we reported they might be the next to have “issues” if they don’t work things out with their employees.

The Allied Pilots Association requested that American Airlines find “alternate means of compliance with the Executive Order be made available for professional pilots” so as not to prompt mass firings and unpaid leave following President Joe Biden’s September announcement mandating large employers to require vaccinations or weekly testing.

According to Reuters, there’s also a pending case from United Airlines. Six employees filed a class action in Texas claiming that those who were seeking exemptions from the vaccine mandate “were subjected to intrusive inquiries about their medical conditions or religious beliefs, including a requirement that they obtain letters from pastors.” That case is supposed to be heard today and the court restrained the airline from placing on unpaid leave any employee who receives religious or medical exemptions from the company for COVID-19 vaccinations. The court also put a temporary restraining order preventing United from denying any requests for religious or medical exemptions.

So we’ll have to see how it all shakes out but safe to say, prepare for possibly more “issues” coming.

Quote of the Day: Southwest Pilots "Sick-in" edition

This quote (and the post it is from) makes no mention of the pilots, and was written from the point of view of the working man. But it explains clearly what is going on (you'll have to read the whole thing to see how this applies to pilots as well):

Like I said, no mention of the pilots. But when a corporation makes you merely one of the factors of production, you had damn well better be replaceable or they have a problem bigger than they think.

This is an outstanding post from The Blogger Formerly Known As The Archdruid. I cannot recommend this more highly. The Revolution will not be televised, but it sure as shootin' will be blogged.

From the article:

But it’s the quiet dissolution of working class employment, the recognition by the people who keep the economy running that they have better things to do than prop up a system that treats them as disposable components, that strikes me as most important here and now.

It has to be willful on the part of Southwest (and others) management. It can no longer be explained by ignorance or stupidity. These airlines will be ruined if they lose even 10% of their workforce. Federal contracts are a tiny part of their business. If I were the CEO and wanted to save my company, I would cancel all current and future federal contracts, publicly disavow mandates, and instantly become the most popular airline in the country.

That would make sense to me. If they lose Fed contracts because they refuse to mandate the vaccination, they'd gain the respect and loyalty of their pilots, crews, staff, etc., along with that of the American people who choose not to vaccinate for whatever reason.

If they enforce the vax and lose a good number of their pilots and staff, they may not be able to fulfill the Fed contracts anyhow, or stay in business with the public due to staff shortages.

Without the flight staff to fly, Southwest and likely all the other airlines in similar positions could claim force majeure and break those contracts without penalty. I think that would be possible.

TSA says 40% of employees are unvaccinated as deadline looms

(CNN)The Transportation Security Administration says 4-in-10 members of its workforce, including screeners, remain unvaccinated against Covid-19 as its deadline looms.

The deadline for civilian federal government workers to be fully vaccinated is November 22 -- the Monday before Thanksgiving, one of the busiest travel times of the year.
"We have about 60% of our workforce has been vaccinated, that that number needs to go quite a bit higher over the next few weeks," TSA Administrator David Pekoske told CNN in an exclusive interview.
The November 22 deadline for being fully vaccinated is still six weeks away, but the deadlines for receiving the vaccines are rapidly approaching or, in the case of the Moderna vaccine, have already passed, since an individual has to receive the full schedule of doses and wait two weeks before being considered fully vaccinated.

'Huge problem': Passengers are bringing a record number of guns to the airport, TSA says

'Huge problem': Passengers are bringing a record number of guns to the airport, TSA says

In order to meet that deadline, the last possible date for receiving the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine is October 18, while the latest possible date for the first dose of Moderna was October 11. The Pfizer vaccine requires a three-week waiting period in between first and second doses. Moderna requires a four-week wait. The last possible date to receive the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine is November 8, two weeks before the November 22 deadline.
Pekoske said he is "very hopeful" that the agency's employees can meet the deadline and that there will not be worker shortages.
"We are building contingency plans, for if we do have some staffing shortages as a result of this, but I hope to avoid that," he said.
Pekoske has been holding employee town hall meetings to make the case to the agency's workforce.

Southwest Airlines Is Collapsing – A Glimpse Of The Future And Hope
By Charles "Sam" Faddis
AND Magazine
October 13, 2021

Joe Biden’s federal vaccine mandate is toothless. He cannot make it work. He cannot enforce it, and so the federal government has tried to ‘back door‘ a national vaccine mandate by pushing corporations to do their dirty work. Maybe the feds can’t really order you to take the jab, but if they can prevent you from earning a living without the vaccine, they can achieve the same objective.

It seems simple enough and strangely fitting for a government that is increasingly indistinguishable from giant multinational corporations, Big Tech, and the oligarchs that run the entire enterprise.

Except, a funny thing is happening. The people, those Neanderthals clinging to their Bibles and guns, who are supposed to do what they are told, pay taxes and fight the corporate wars are pushing back. Deserted by their elected representatives, who answer to their corporate masters, average Americans are refusing to comply.

Take a look at Southwest Airlines, and you will see exactly what this new civil disobedience looks like. You may also see the future.

The White House has pressed the airlines to adopt vaccine mandates using the leverage of federal contracts. United knuckled under first and announced a vaccine requirement. Southwest recently announced its employees had until December 8, 2021, to get vaccinated or lose their jobs.

The pilot’s union for Southwest Airlines responded to the mandate by filing suit and trying to block the action, but the pilots themselves are not waiting for court action to make clear where they stand. They have started using vacation and sick days and refusing to show up for work. Other employees have followed suit.

The entire airline has been brought to a standstill. The pushback began Friday when a grand total of 3 out of 35 employees showed up for work at the Jacksonville center. Almost every flight out of Orlando had to be canceled. Almost 50% of Southwest pilots remain unvaccinated. There is no indication that any large numbers are moving to get the vaccine. As bad as things are, they are going to get a lot worse.

Over the weekend Southwest canceled 1900 flights. As of the time this article was published it had already canceled 365 flights for Monday, and 600 more are “delayed.” Southwest Airlines is effectively shut down.

Southwest Airlines’ stock fell more than 4% on Monday when trading opened.

Southwest Airlines is continuing to maintain that there is no work stoppage in progress and blaming cancellations on mythical weather problems or air traffic control issues. The pilot’s union is keeping silent because any official action on its part would likely be considered illegal. In reality, their position is largely true. Pilots are not calling out, because they have been ordered to do so. They are calling out because they have had enough.

Southwest pilots are drawing a line in the sand. They, like so many other Americans, are done with the creeping tyranny, and they have grasped that in Washington no one is going to stand up for them and push back. It is time for citizens to act on their own.

After I had posted wondering how the company was going to verify vaccine status, the memo came out that everyone will have to upload a copy of their vaccination card. It really sucks as I'm not in a financial position where I can throw 32 years away. Too close to retirement to throw it away, and too far to say heck with it and retire early. I unfortunately have to do what's best for my family. Hell, at least if the vax kills me, they'll be provided for very well with the various insurance policies I have.
Yea bad news there, too.
Insurance policies do not pay off after EXPERIMENTAL medical vaccines, AFAIK.

Aah, the small print.

It's definitely willful, the redhead as much as admitted it, and don't forget that article that came out after the election touting how they'd had a successful bipartisan effort to "steer" the election...Obamas' admitted hopes were to fundamentally change America, and he's marching along doing just that in his 3rd term- and all our elitist white snotsnacks betters are marching right along beside him in the efforts...

PSAKI: The President wants to make fundamental change in our economy, and he feels coming out of the pandemic is exactly the time to do that.

Pretty easy of him to say that as his company is at a 90% vac rate right now, and expects to be 95% be end of the month.

Why require it to be done when it is being done voluntarily?

I believe it was monthly... and that so many had already been cowed into submission that the #, and effect of, this decision was negligible. I decided what the heck, take a page from the other side and let the optics over rule the facts, i.e. I'll still be happy for the illusion of push back that it presents :; shrugs ::
