ECON Sickout? Southwest Airlines Cancels 1,000 More Flights As Disruptions Increase

Day by day
My place of business is a Gov contractor and is implementing "jab or termination" by Thanksgiving. We just found out this morning. Not sure what's going to happen. How does anyone know whether you've gotten it or not? I thought there wasn't supposed to be a "list"?

I'm guessing they'll require all employees to bring in proof of vaccination/the vaccination card everyone gets.

Fauci Backpedals on Domestic Vaccine Mandates as Southwest Airlines Has to Cancel More Domestic Flights

By Jennifer Oliver O'Connell | Oct 11, 2021 2:30 PM ET

Dr. Anthony Fauci, whose opinions shift with the wind depending on what the Biden administration wishes him to do, has shifted on the definitiveness of Dementia Joe imposing vaccine mandate requirements for domestic air travel.

In a September 19 visit with Chuck Todd of NBC’s Meet the Press, Fauci was asked about a domestic airline vaccine mandate. Fauci replied,
“We have not yet gotten to the point of requiring vaccinations on domestic flights. But everything is on the table. We consider these things literally on a daily basis.”
Almost a month later, Fauci went on CNN’s State of the Union, to downplay the definitiveness of such a mandate:

From Just the News:
Dr. Anthony Fauci says he does not expect a vaccine mandate for Americans flying domestically in the near future.
“It’s always discussable. We always wind up discussing it,” Fauci said Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union. However, he continued, “I don’t see that immediately.”
Fauci first floated the idea of vaccine requirements for domestic flights last month during an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press, and has since said he would support the idea during various media interviews. But he sounded a slightly different tune over the weekend.
“I don’t want to say support or not. I think it’s a decision that’s made by input from a number of parts of the government, including public health,” he said.
“I don’t want to be weighing in, because we wind up then having people taking things out of context,” he said, adding the relevant bodies “have everything on the table.”
That would be a change, as the Faux-ci loves to weigh in on most everything that has to do with your freedom and liberty. Fauci was recently burned because of his holiday diktats. After saying in early October that it was “too soon to tell” whether Americans could have a normal holiday, he received proper pushback on social media, causing him to sing a different tune:

“I will be spending Christmas with my family,” Fauci told CNN. “I encourage people, particularly the vaccinated people who are protected, to have a good, normal Christmas with your family.”
Oh, we plan to; vaccinated or not. Thank you so much, Lord Fauci for approving our plans!

Bless your heart….

As per usez, he blamed “misinformation” and that his comments were “taken out of context.”
Uh huh.
On Monday, Fauci argued that his comment from the previous day had been “taken completely out of context.”
“I was asked, ‘What could we predict for this winter for like December and Christmas?’” he claimed. “I said, ‘We don’t know because we’ve seen slopes that went down and then came back up. The best way to assure that we’ll be in good shape as we get into the winter would be to get more and more people vaccinated.’
“That was misinterpreted as my saying we can’t spend Christmas with our families, which was absolutely not the case,” Fauci insisted before lamenting: “The way all of the other disinformation goes around, you say something talking about a landmark of a time, and it gets misinterpreted that I’m saying you can’t spend family Christmas time, which is nonsense. You can.”
So this sudden shift on domestic airline vaccine mandates is just another day in Fauci-world. As one of his chief antagonists KY Sen. Rand Paul (R-Hero) often points out, Fauci lies:
Surprise surprise – Fauci lied again
And I was right about his agency funding novel Coronavirus research at Wuhan.
Read this thread and the papers released. https://t.co/zQizKXLdbd
— Senator Rand Paul (@RandPaul) September 7, 2021

On the one hand, Fauci has to toe the party line on the vaccine mandates being inflicted on businesses by the Biden administration:
Several major U.S. airlines are requiring that their U.S. employees be vaccinated against COVID-19, including American Airlines, JetBlue, United, and Southwest. In late September, United Airlines – the first of the major airliners to make COVID vaccines a requirements – said it was prepared to terminate hundreds of employees who chose not to take the shot.
On the other hand, he stuck his finger in the wind, and realized it’s not blowing in favor of these mandates. Southwest pilots are leading the way in giving their own middle finger to these company mandates, as my colleague Nick Arama reported here and here.

So far, it’s pilots and certain FAA ground staff who are choosing to take some much needed sick time. After all, if they’re fired, they won’t be paid for any time accrued anyway:

And this pilot lays out firsthand why it matters that someone stand against these mandates sooner, rather than later.
This is the single bravest thing I have seen in years. God bless these Pilots. The heroes we need right now ✈️ pic.twitter.com/ZxuRseDoAq

Word on the street is that United Airline pilots are planning a similar tactic, to show their solidarity. This is the modern-day equivalent of the shot heard round the world. We have a Revolution, and we need to ensure it continues to build.

We know this for sure: Fauci will revise his “advice” several times over, dependent upon how long these battle go on. I’m all for keeping him twisting in the legacy media wind.

It was always a race against time for the evil trio; getting as many people to be "vaccinated" as possible as soon as possible

the resulting deaths start and independent researchers find out what's actually in their jab.

Right now they are applying tremendous pressure with the "no jab/no work" campaign.

But resistance is starting to build.

Yup, the race is not going well and resistance is stiffening. I'm still at about 35% jabbed Americans. The voices are becoming more strident as the big fail becomes impossible to ignore. Eventually the flock will catch on.

Remember, they are already lining up the new narrative when the Jab Juggernaut fails. It will probably include a False Flag that will totally knock the country back on its heels. That's what it's going to take to keep the sheep from turning into a pitchforks-and-torches mob.

Still waiting and waiting for that to start.
My husband and I agreed we would peaceful protest with fellow Conservatives if rally's were needed near the big blue city's in our state. IF we can get something going nationwide.

Insanity like the draconian steps the US and other Governments are taking on this issue is one reason I took the Astra Zenica/non-mRNA vaccine because I could see the way the wind was blowing and was trying to buy time, as well as having pre-existing conditions that mean if it actually did some good that was a positive.

Sadly, while the good news I didn't have any reactions worse than a bad time from a flu shot - and no, it did not destroy my links to the Divine Presence. it will no longer be given in Ireland.

For our "boosters" the only choice will be Phizer (maybe Maderna) not even J and J will be an option. So I'm getting done now what I need to do, so I can stay home for another six to twelve months and let my housemate do the shopping.

My hope is that this sort of great pushback, will result in these silly, unethically medically and tyrannical mandates will be over by then.

My vaccination decisions should be between me and my doctor except perhaps in the direst of circumstances like a new variant of Small Pox or airborne Ebola broke out. But if that happened, the site of between 30 to 70 percent of everyone dying around them will make the public and the medical profession eager to risk even an experimental vaccine. No force will be required, and no health care workers will be fired; instead, they will be promoting the janitors to be nurses and the third-year medical students to be MDs (if any are left alive).

Pete Buttigieg Absent as Flight Delays Snarl Columbus Day Weekend Travel

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was absent Monday as a surge of flight delays snarled travel in the South over the Columbus Day weekend.
Southwest Airlines canceled more than 2,300 flights over the three-day federal holiday weekend, citing limited staffing and bad weather.

An electronic flight departure board displays ‘cancelled’ status’s for all Flybe flights due to have taken-off from Exeter Airport in Exeter, south-west England on March 5, 2020, following the news that the airline had collapsed into bankruptcy. – British regional airline Flybe crashed into bankruptcy Thursday after the deadly coronavirus proved to be the final nail in its coffin. The biggest operator of UK domestic flights said it has sunk into administration — a last-ditch process aimed at salvaging at least some of the company. The Department of Transportation did not reply to a request for comment from Breitbart News on Monday about Buttigieg’s response to the crisis or about where he spent the weekend.
But Buttigieg’s Twitter account shared a message promoting Indigenous Peoples’ Day, a leftist alternative proposal to the celebration of Columbus Day.

The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that the delays on Friday were a result of severe weather, military training and limited staffing in a Jacksonville Air Route Traffic Control Center but did not share any details about the interrupted flights over the rest of the weekend.

The delays occurred two days after the Southwest Airlines pilots’ union asked a federal judge to block the company’s vaccine mandate, prompting speculation about a possible “sick out” protest of employees reacting to the draconian measure.
A Southwest Airlines spokeswoman denied any evidence of a coordinated staff protest.
“It’s inaccurate,” a spokeswoman told CNBC. “There’s a lot of unfounded rumor and speculation circulating.”
Buttigieg remained silent through Monday, despite the crisis.
The Secretary of Transportation was last seen on Friday in an appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.
Buttigieg spoke about the ongoing struggles to deal with the clogged ship ports as well as being a new parent of twins.
“Don’t get me wrong, it’s incredibly… it’s the most demanding thing I think I’ve ever done,” he said about becoming a parent.

I hope it spreads like wildfire, even to the point of shutting down every major industry in this country. Maybe that's what it's going to take to send a message to this tyrannical administration. And if we all have to experience some inconveniences and discomfort for a bit, so be it. All of us here should already be set to shelter in place if need be.

I wish this had started back when we had to start being treated like criminals at the airport after 9-11. THAT is when we should have nipped this shite in the bud!

Southwest Air Pilots Seek to Block Covid Vaccination Mandate

Southwest Airlines denies that pilot "sick out" drove weekend of delays

Dallas-based Southwest Airlines canceled more than 1,000 flights over the weekend, leaving passengers stranded across the country.
Why it matters: The mass cancellations come after its pilots asked a court to block the company's new COVID vaccine mandate.
Between the lines: Airline insiders and conservatives are are wondering if the cancellations are part of a "sick out" in response to the vaccine policy.
  • Southwest's pilots' union said the cancellations were not part of a planned labor demonstration.
  • More than 25% of the airline's flights were canceled on Sunday per the FlightAware tracker.
  • "We can say with confidence that our pilots are not participating in any official or unofficial job actions," it said in a press release. "Our pilots will continue to overcome SWA management’s poor planning, as well as any external operational challenges."
The other side: Southwest said the cancellations and delays were caused by "disruptive weather" and air traffic control "issues," though no other airlines were impacted so dramatically.
  • The airline is usually proactive with customer support on social media, but as cancellations and delays mounted, its Twitter account was silent on the topic for more than 24 hours.
Ben's thought bubble: I was traveling home from San Diego on Saturday and made it through the nightmare, even with two flights cancelled. My tips:
  • Customer service agents also work in the Twitter and Facebook DMs of a lot of airlines' social media, including Southwest. They’ll get to you WAY quicker than waiting on hold.
  • Go to the airport if you can't rebook online or if hold times are ridiculous.
  • Patience and kindness always get you farther than anger and raised voices.
  • Offer extreme flexibility if you can, like paying for your own hotel on an overnight layover.
The bottom line: If you’re flying on Southwest soon, pack some patience.

I'm pretty sure Gov Abbott's new EO signed today prohibiting entities mandating the Covid-19 vaccine is going to put an end to this. I'm pretty sure Southwest Airlines is home-based in Texas.

This is really, really going to tick off the Administration. But, it should be GREAT for anyone living/working in Texas.

I have a lot of respect for Gov Abbott. I may not agree with everything he does, but he certainly isn't afraid of a fight. I really believe we're in a fight for our freedom, our country, and perhaps our very lives.

This should get really interesting, really soon.

Is resistance to COVID-19 mandates reaching critical mass?

I wasn't in the least surprised to hear rumors - as yet unconfirmed by the Federal Aviation Administration, and ignored by the mainstream media so far, but confirmed to me by a friend who's an air traffic controller in a major center - that most of the controllers in the Jacksonville, Florida, air traffic center allegedly walked off the job on Friday in protest against the mandate to undergo the COVID-19 vaccination. A similar problem is reported to have occurred in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, although I've not been able to confirm that yet.

Southwest Airlines seems to be deep in the dwang over their vaccination mandate. Bloomberg reports:

Southwest Airlines Co. pilots asked a court to temporarily block the company from carrying out federally mandated coronavirus vaccinations until an existing lawsuit over alleged U.S. labor law violations is resolved.

The Southwest Airlines Pilots Association’s filing Friday also asked for an immediate hearing on the request before a federal court in Dallas, claiming the carrier has continued to take unilateral actions that violate terms of the Railway Labor Act, which governs airline-union relations. Those steps include the Covid-19 vaccination requirement.

“The new vaccine mandate unlawfully imposes new conditions of employment and the new policy threatens termination of any pilot not fully vaccinated by December 8, 2021,” the legal filing said. “Southwest Airlines’ additional new and unilateral modification of the parties’ collective bargaining agreement is in clear violation of the RLA.”

Southwest set the deadline on Oct. 4 under a federal vaccination mandate for employees of companies holding contracts with the U.S. government.

There's more at the link.

It appears the pilots there aren't restricting themselves to legal action. Southwest had to cancel up to 2,000 flights this past weekend, citing various reasons (including the ATC problems referred to above, weather, etc.) However, the weather in the cancellation area was reportedly good to excellent, so fliers who found their flights cancelled are not amused by that excuse. Instead, there are widespread reports (again, not in the mainstream media, which appears to be trying to cover up such news) that "large numbers of Southwest pilots are not showing up to work in protest over the vaccine mandate". Some sources claim that Southwest employees are using up all the sick time they've accumulated, in an attempt to put pressure on the airline.

Another report notes:

Essentially, the union cannot organize or even acknowledge the sickout, because doing so would make it an illegal job action. Years ago, Southwest and its pilots had a rough negotiation, and the union would not even let the pilots internally discuss the possibility of working-to-rule (which would have slowed Southwest to a crawl).

But at the moment the pilots don’t even have to talk to each other about what they’re doing. The anger internally - not just among pilots but other Southwest workers - is enormous. The tough prior negotiations notwithstanding, Southwest has a history of decent labor relations, and workers believe the company should stand up for them against the mandate. Telling pilots in particular to comply or face termination has backfired.

Again, more at the link, and in this report, which I highly recommend you read.

One has to feel some sympathy for Southwest. They're in a no-win situation. Like hospitals, they take government money under contract, so they're legally obliged to implement the vaccination mandate; but a large proportion of their staff appear to feel differently. (I don't blame the pilots, given a recent whistleblower warning that flight crew risk sudden and potentially fatal cardiac complications from the vaccine, perhaps even while in the air.) A disease like that means the automatic, immediate and probably permanent loss of flight medical status. Southwest pilots have reportedly complained that their disability insurance does not cover such issues, meaning that their careers might be destroyed almost overnight, with no compensation or guarantee of future income or medical treatment as a result. The vaccine manufacturers can't be sued for such expenses, because they have legal immunity against lawsuits or prosecution. In the pilots' shoes, I wouldn't be terribly happy about that either.

Needless to say, progressive left-wing pundits are anything but thrilled by such resistance. Here's just one over-the-top reaction from Twitter:

The author of the Palmer Report adds: "These loons are about to lose their jobs, and rightly so. But they shouldn’t ever be trusted in positions of security or influence again. I’ve said for years that right wing extremists can’t be trusted in positions of influence, due to their mental incompetence. They keep proving me right." Well, sucks to be him, I guess... I'm on the pilots' side.

I saw a rumor on Gab that "the ferry they use [in Seattle, WA] is now unreliable because of staff shortages due to the mandate". That's been confirmed by the mainstream media, although whether the shortage has been caused by actual illness among staff members, or by resistance to the mandate to be vaccinated, has not been made clear. The report simply cites "COVID-related staffing shortages".

Another friend who's a long-haul trucker (an owner/operator) told me over the weekend that "thousands" of drivers are now refusing to schedule loads to states that are imposing, or will soon impose, COVID vaccination mandates on transport workers (including some of the biggest states in the country, like New York and California). He says he's personally been "begged" by several customers who are "desperate" for drivers. He claims they've even offered him significant sums of money to get the jab so he can drive their cargoes; but he's having none of it, thanks to the widely-reported incidence of problems with the vaccines (well over 500,000 so far in the USA alone). He says it helps that the backlog of freight is so great that he can pick and choose which loads he carries, and which he rejects.

He also told me that many drivers for the big trucking companies are getting more and more adamant with their bosses that if they insist on vaccination, they're going to walk out, and go to work for companies in states that have greater respect for their right to choose. Given the current shortage of drivers (about a 60,000 shortfall since 2019 and rapidly getting worse, particularly in the light of current supply chain problems), he doesn't think they'll have much trouble finding work. Meanwhile, states that have imposed mandates for truck drivers to be vaccinated are said to be already finding incoming truck traffic dropping off significantly - to the distress of businesses there, which can't get their orders in on time or in sufficient quantity.

Many hospitals are complaining about staff shortages, but they're not admitting that a primary cause is the vaccination mandate. One nurse who's quit rather than take it has spilled the beans, and I've had that confirmed by a couple of local nurses who've also resigned rather than be vaccinated. It's said that hospitals across the country are being forced to close entire wards, or shut down the provision of certain medical services, because they can't get enough vaccinated staff to run them. (The hospitals have no choice but to impose the vaxx mandate, because if they don't, they won't be paid by Medicare or Medicaid.) By some estimates, approximately 20% of nursing jobs are currently vacant, with no takers - and it's getting worse.

On the other hand, nurses and doctors who've quit rather than be vaccinated are now being offered jobs in practices and institutions that don't take government money, and can therefore afford to be less doctrinaire and restrictive. To cite just one example, this advertisement has been appearing on Gab in recent days:

I know of several families in need of visiting nurse care who've made private arrangements with nurses who don't want to be vaccinated. They're working unofficially, without registering as home health care providers, and being paid in cash "under the table". Good for them, as far as I'm concerned! They charge lower rates, which saves the families money; but they actually make more money than they used to, because they don't face all the deductions that a hospital would take out of their pay. When medications or supplies are needed, they're bought outside the regular channels (which isn't hard to do in most cases - one can save quite a lot of money that way). Everybody's happy except the bureaucrats.

I've also been told, by a nurse at a major hospital in a very big city a couple of hours' drive from here, that there's quiet, unofficial collusion among the staff to avoid vaccination by accepting an injection of saline solution instead. The official vaccination card is filled in with what they should have received, but in reality they're walking out with a little salty water in their veins instead. In sheer desperation, some hospitals needing to hire travel nurses are said to be issuing them with (and registering with the authorities) brand-new COVID-19 "passports" that are completely fraudulent, not even going through the pretense of a saline injection. My informant told me that without such covert "work-arounds", her hospital would have had to shut down more than half of its departments.

More and more, I'm getting the feeling that there's a broad-based grass-roots groundswell of opposition building to the Biden administration's dogmatic, doctrinaire insistence on using the COVID-19 pandemic as an excuse to impose rigid, authoritarian controls on society. I think it's beginning to backfire on them in more and more ways, and I think they're panicking. After all, without the excuse of COVID-19 to justify their autocratic shenanigans, their whole program falls apart. May it do so quickly! I suspect the ubiquitous public chants of "F*** Joe Biden!", and the hilarious meme of "Let's Go Brandon!" (which is now being merchandised, apparently by the truckload) are yet more evidence of widespread and growing public disdain for this administration and its progressive-left preoccupations.

I entirely approve of this meme that began circulating last week. Clickit to biggit.

Amen!

If the Air Traffic Controllers, who are Federal employees, walked off the job, they may well be fired. It happened to one of DH's cousins back when they walked out during the Reagan Administration. We passed along a warning to the family that you can't strike against the Fed and would be fired, but I guess the cousin didn't believe it would happen. It did.

Message Southwest Airlines Board of Directors
Tell the Southwest Airlines Board: NO VAX MANDATES!

Use the form below to send an email message to Southwest CEO Gary Kelly as well as 19 other Southwest Board Members and Officers. Demand they protect their employees’ medical freedoms and stop threatening to terminate them simply because they’re unvaccinated. This mandate was dropped like a bomb on the employees. It couldn’t have come at a worse time. It shouldn’t have come at all. No jab, no job, no LUV.

We've provided you a template, but feel free to edit it if you'd like!

Southwest Officers, Here is what the press reported: “I encourage all Southwest Employees to meet the federal directive, as quickly as possible, since we value every individual and want to ensure job security for all.” -Gary Kelly, Southwest Airlines CEO Here is what the employees were told: "Failure to comply with this policy will result in termination of employment." -Gary Kelly, Southwest Airlines CEO This mandate was dropped like a bomb on the employees. It couldn't have come at a worse time....It shouldn't have come at all. No jab-No job-No LUV. The beloved patriarch of Southwest, Herb Kelleher, said: "Your employees come first. And if you treat your employees right, guess what? Your customers come back, and that makes your shareholders happy. Start with employees and the rest follows from that." Does firing thousands of your employees during the holidays sound like Herb's vision? The vision that made Southwest Airlines the most successful airline in history? Southwest Airlines gave America the “Freedom to Fly.” This Texas Airline has long valued freedom. Your dedicated employees will not abandon that sacred heritage in favor of government contracts worth a few percentage points of revenue. We owe fellow Co-hearts, loyal Customers, and future generations of Americans more than that. “Mr. Kelly, Tear Down this Mandate!”

I’m very happy (and, truth be told, a bit relieved that things are beginning to rock and roll a little bit) that this example of the backlash from ‘going woke’ is so large, so public and so in-your-face as to get everyone’s attention even without MSM coverage.
National Public Radio covered the story this morning (West Coast broadcast). I was a bit surprised they finally got around to it. Nice to learn NPR is good for something besides deterring burglars.

They're not "striking". They are using up all their accrued vacation and personal leave time--which under Union rules they have a perfect right to do, apparently at any time they please--while they still can. As noted above--they can't do that once they're fired---they just lose it all. The fact that taking the time that they have earned essentially ALSO allows them to PROTEST (silently) the mandate--is just icing on the cake.

Southwest cancels thousands of flights, leading to chaos at airports across the country
Errol Errol

3-4 minutes

evening-news

October 11, 2021 / 8:38 PM / CBS News
From Los Angeles to Miami, Dallas to Denver, thousands of Southwest customers had weekend travel plans ruined by more than 2,000 flight cancelations. The airline canceled another 10% of flights on Monday.

It's not clear what is causing the disruption as the airline and its pilots are telling different stories. The delays and cancelations began shortly after the pilot's union tried to block Southwest's new COVID-19 vaccine mandate.
Lines were long and tempers short at airports in several cities, as passengers were forced to wait hours, and in some cases, days to rebook on other flights.
The company on Monday offered a "tremendous apology" to customers and employees, citing weather and external constraints.
Captain Cassey Murray, president of the Southwest pilots' union, insists the disruptions were not caused by pilots protesting the pending vaccine mandate. He told CBS News that the airline's pilot sick rate for this weekend was "right in line with what was occurring this summer."
But Murray did acknowledge the union is suing the airline over its policy.
"The problem is not meeting months ago and addressing these insurance issues — addressing our pilot medicals," he said. "All the airlines have the same issues we do today, but they've mitigated it by having agreements in place, and they are a lot further along than we are."

Southwest stood out among airlines because other carriers had nowhere near its rate of cancelations.
"We have a temporary restraining order that is trying to get them to stop the mandate so that we can sit down and discuss and provide some support for our pilots so that they can understand and make a decision to get vaccinated with that understanding behind them," Murray added.
Some stranded passengers hit the road to get home.
Julianne Mattox attended a wedding in Austin, Texas, with two friends. Before Southwest canceled their Sunday flight back to Washington, D.C., offering Wednesday instead.
"The general consensus among everyone was it's easier to rent a car and just get out of town to start moving, rather than waiting until Tuesday or Wednesday to even potentially get a flight," she said.
The trio made it safely home, after spending 25 hours driving 1,500 miles.
Murray said the union is currently negotiating with Southwest over its upcoming vaccine mandate, and he expects to find a workable resolution eventually.

But, he said he's unsure if that will happen by the December 8 deadline — maybe not even before Thanksgiving.
