Two police officers were among multiple injured when a car plowed through a parade celebrating Native American culture in the city of Gallup, New Mexico.
The injured were being treated at the scene after a person in a large SUV drove through crowds causing panic at the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial Centennial Celebration Thursday.
State Police Lt. Mark Soriano said no one was killed in the incident and he couldn't elaborate on the extent of the injuries, the Albuquerque Journal reported.

New Mexico State Police said on Twitter that the driver and three passengers were in custody and they were investigating the incident.
'Multiple people, including two Gallup PD officers, injured and are being treated on scene,' the tweet said.
Video of the event posted to social media shows crowds lining the street as children and adults in traditional Native American and indigenous dress dance in the street.

Panic quickly spread as a large, gold-colored SUV accelerated through the spectators before crashing to a halt.
Local police were immediately on the car, pulling out the passengers and drivers and arresting them.
'The Navajo Nation stands with resilience against any acts of violence and sends prayers of protection to those affected,' they said in a statement on Facebook.

'This was a traumatic and triggering event for many, especially for our youth, elders, and our veterans who acted quickly.'
Hundreds of people were enjoying the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial Centennial Celebration, an 11-day event celebrating its 100th anniversary.

The event website describes it as Native American & Indigenous Tribal Processions & Performance Showcases, with events such as rodeos, pageants, Navajo song and dance and a 5k run.

There used to be (and probably still is) a great outdoor market in Gallop where you could get traditional herbs, blankets, jewelry, cold drinks (It is hot there in the summer and the elevation is hard on those not used to it!) and everything under the sun, including native melons and foods.

It probably didn't make the national news because too many people think New Mexico is not part of the US. My parents lived there many years until they passed, and when they talked to people in other parts of the states, they were asked if they needed a passport to travel there. The lack of education in public schools is atrocious.

Have you actually been to Gallop in the last few years?
Again, everyone stay away from that place! If you must drive through there, then certainly do not stop even though the gas there is usually the cheapest found over a wide area.

I haven't been to Gallop in the last five years or so. Cheap gas can be found between Gallop and Grants at the truck stop on I-40.

We always stopped in Gallop to eat and get gas. But it has been 5 years for me as well. Even drove north out of Gallop up thru the Rez to get to Colorado a few times.

In Gallup they were probably all very much under the influence of a couple of bottles of the evil white man's fire water. And that's why there is no national media coverage.

If there hadn't been a parade in the way, that was just a normal drive to the liquor for those guys.

We drive through Gallop a couple times every year. Our kids live in southwest Colorado so it is way out of our way taking a different route. We never stop there anymore, ever. Maybe it is just me but I sure don't like it, I actually detest that whole state.

We lived in Pagosa so were about an hour from Santa Fe. Going to NM to shop was a normal thing. Either Santa Fe or Farmington.

My kids do sometimes shop in Farmington. I do have a friend who moved to Farmington. His car was vandalized within the 1st two weeks of his move.
