Sharing germs with pets

I have had the cold from he!! for over a month now. Freebird started a thread about this nasty. And now my poor cat has it. He is sneezing right and left. I have an appointment with the Vet for him on Friday. But the more I think about it, the more convinced I am he got it from me. He is an indoor cat, so he didn't get this from outside. So far, my other two cats are healthy.
I know Vets always tell you that diseases can't cross over from people to animals and vice versa, but Bird people know that birds can get sick from their owners, and back when I worked as a Vet Tech, those of us who worked in the isolation ward during Parvo outbreaks always came down with a mild case of bloody diarrhea.
I recall my mother using Vicks vapo rub on a cat who had a respiratory infection and he pulled thru. Anyone else have any home remedies they have used on their cats?

I just usually keep some antibiotics on hand for the cats and dog and myself. Vicks just helps open the nasal passages for better breathing, doesn't do a thing to cure the cold and since cats have VERY sensitive smellers it doesn't seem to be a good idea to use it on cats - it's really strong stuff.

Transmitting viral infections is always a possibility.

Growing up, our pets gave us ticks and poison ivy.

We gave them, and almost killed them with, flu and measles.
