WEATHER Severe Weather the Week of May 6th, 2024

SlipperySlope

Veteran Member
I went to bed early tonight. They were predicting some thunderstorms. I just woke up and thought I would check out TB. Huntsville is only half an hour away. Another nearby town has just lost it's emergency center in the storm. It sounds like there are tornadoes around here. Guess I better stay up for a bit and watch all this mess.

Rumors that Huntsville Hospital has been damaged; Ryan Hall is trying to confirm

It wasn't hit.

We had three hospitals in Alabama tonight that had tornadoes pass over or near them. One hospital twice (Huntsville I think it was).

One had damage to a home across the street or one block over. (I was listening to) Too many newscasts listened to tonight (to keep everything straight).

Lots of reports of damage in Bama tonight, most areas on Western part of state were minor from what I have heard. (ETA: tree damage to roofs and a car was crushed by a tree somewhere, and at least one report of house struck by lightning)

There is however major, major damage in some areas of NE Alabama tonight.

Scottsboro has had three or four tornadoes in their area and hit by at least two of them.
Damage in downtown from and earlier one (2nd or third in the general area).

Currently three areas of circulation in the Scottsboro area right now (which would make it up to five or six or seven? in that area tonight), damage reported from at least two that hit an hour or so apart earlier; have not heard about the current three.

Also damage in Henegar area from an earlier (last 30 minutes or hour); emergency crews say they have confirmed injuries, but damage and trees down are preventing rescue vehicles from getting to them.

I know that tornado had also been reported to have hit a trailer park and large commercial chicken coops before it got to Henegar. Debris was picked up over 18,000 feet tonight on radar from that tornado.

There is still at least one active tornado in that part of area and it too is headed towards Henagar.

Please pray for NE Bama tonight, some areas have been hit multiple times in the last 3 hours or so.

Major damage along Hyw 75 in that general area of Bama too, but I do not know which tornado caused it.

That part of Bama is still under a tornado watch until 3 AM. Dekalb county was hit hard tonight parts of Madison and Jackson counties too if I remember what all the news has been reporting. It has really been hard to keep it all straight once it got to some parts, so much happening all at once in multiple areas.

My part of Bama (next county below the damaged area) is currently not under any watches, my threat is supposed to start around 1 or so this morning and run thru sometime later today.

On TB every waking moment
New tornado warning issued just now for Dekalb county again. Henagar is also on possible path list of this tornado.

So, we have two different active tornadoes and both could possible hit Henagar area again. (that would be possibly 4 for that area tonight)

Lilbitsnana

On TB every waking moment
News just said rescue crews are still unable to get to some of the damaged areas of Henagar from the first tornado damage and they know they have injured people waiting for rescue, just don't know the severity of all injuries since they can't get to them.

Lilbitsnana

On TB every waking moment
News just said EF2 or 3 damage was reported in Jackson County from one of the earlier tornadoes; still no preliminary classifications on the Henagar tornado because they have so many trees, roofs and debris to clear form roads to get to the area.

Possible tornado over lookout mountain right now.

ETA: Local weather guy just said NWS said there will be another round start in North Alabama in two or three hours from now.

Well, same North Alabama area under tornado watch again until 10 AM, but they just added my county too along with three other counties that were not in a watch area last night.

News is still gathering info about last night.

Multiple injuries across North East Alabama and at least two people hospitalized in DeKalb County.

Lilbitsnana

On TB every waking moment
Info still coming in about last night, but so far I have heard of homes damaged in Limestone, Jackson, Madison and DeKalb counties; lots of trees down all across North Alabama and several cars crushed by downed trees.

Lilbitsnana

On TB every waking moment
tornado warning for the area hit last night

They think it would be a weak tornado

Just rain / thunderstorms near Atlanta GA (so far); watches to cancel 1 pm.

Ryan Hall called it--and I bet he's lost his voice today, he was coughing so much yesterday and hadn't had any sleep basically since Monday.

Thanks to him, and to all of y'all that have kept us posted about your own areas! Stay safe!
