I very vividly remember that very specific storm. It was originally reported at winds of 318 mph, the upper limit of an F-5. This was detected by a mobile Doppler truck mounted radar system.

From the page below ::

The 1999 Bridge Creek–Moore tornado (locally referred to as the May 3 tornado) was a large and exceptionally powerful F5 tornado in which the highest wind speeds ever measured globally were recorded at 301 ± 20 miles per hour (484 ± 32 km/h) by a Doppler on Wheels (DOW) radar. Considered the strongest tornado ever recorded to have affected the metropolitan area, the tornado while near peak intensity devastated southern portions of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States, along with surrounding suburbs and towns to the south and southwest of the city during the early evening of Monday, May 3, 1999. Parts of Bridge Creek were rendered unrecognizable. The tornado covered 38 miles (61 km) during its 85-minute existence, destroying thousands of homes, killing 36 people (plus an additional five indirectly), and leaving US$1 billion (1999 USD) in damage,[5] ranking it as the fifth-costliest on record not accounting for inflation.[6] Its severity prompted the first-ever use of the tornado emergency statement by the National Weather Service.

I'd like to note that the original Building Practices Assessment Team (BPAT) report pdf file that FEMA had on their website listed my original AOL website as one of five sites for more info.

We had our own close call with the April 8th, 1998 F-5 twister that missed our home in central Alabama, by only a couple of miles, but directly hit the home of Annie’s aunt’s house.

These dam storms are the BIGGEST reason we have lived in Wyoming since 2000.
I also was involved with Saferooms for School design ctriteria working with Mitagation. Did lots of diging into shelter criteria for many aspects not previously addressed like self-rescue, inward opening doors, etc. Richard helped me with a lot of documents from his archive as well as Dr Art Robinson, was actually going to meet with Cresson Kearny but unfortunately he passed away a month before my CO trip. Carpet bombing was the best way to describe what the storm path looked like from the air.

Before Ryan stopped coverage tonight until tomorrow, it was noted that they completely evacuated a town due to the gas leaks in the town and kicked out everyone, including rescue workers. There was so much gas in the air and so many places on fire in town they were concerned of a much worse problem the gas was turned off to the town, but residual gas in lines was what was posing the problem. They said the town had very serious damage. And early estimates were an EF 3 hit the town, I think it was Barnsdall / Bartlesville areas but don't hold me to it! the was the Tornado that went through a couple of hours ago that was a PDS/ Tornado emergency with witnesses (police) a mile and a half wide funnel with a debris field over thirty thousand feet in the air! At least 2 dead so far!

Fella posted this morning I will post video 2 when it comes out.

I was out by my front curb because it was a low spot & I don't have a basement I was ready to drop flat but it went just barely east of me.

Bartlesville (Barnsdall) tornado damage as reported by text from daughter (youngest) this morning:

"No school today in Bartlesville. So far there are no deaths reported. Lots of trees and power lines down. We have a branch over our phone line but otherwise no damage here. In-laws lost a big branch on one of their trees and have some fence panels missing. It was a crazy night!

One of the hotels in town lost their roof and a gas station lost some pumps. Lots of people still don't have power."

I was texting with my DD in Bartlesville while all this was going on.

She and her husband and 2 little kids (1 and 3) were in their smallest, interior shower with their bike helmets on. No basement or tornado shelter.

Ryan Hall had just said the Bartlesville police had reported the tornado was 1 and 1/2 miles wide just before it hit Bartlesville. Of course, I couldn't tell her that and freak her out more. But I was freaking out just a little bit.

Fortunately, they live on the east side. The tornado only hit the west side and I think fizzled out after that. PTL!

I want to thank everyone for continuing to post last night and into the wee hours of the morning. Hopefully all of our members here, that were in the affected areas, are okay. The videos of the damage is unreal.

If anyone is looking for a legit place to donate check out Minutemen Disaster Response. This is a team of men and women who go all over the midwest after a massive tornado event, with their chainsaws, etc., and remove downed trees and tornado damage at no cost to those affected by these storms. They also do some search and rescue, and are a team of volunteers that are trained professionals in the areas needed after a major event.

Our weather people, across the board, are falling all over each other with the warnings and alerts right now.
It’s rained, thundered already but now the sun is out through the muggy haze.
That…isn’t good

Sun fires up the atmosphere for more intense storms to come

Packy, IIRC, that is how RUBICON works as well. They are MOSTLY (but not all) VETS.
Also, there is a Southern Baptist Men's group who do great work. A former member here and on Cory's e-list, Bill Wright (aka Bookworm) worked with them quite a bit before his death.

Thanks! I know a lot of us want to help somehow but don't want to donated to the Red Cross.

I think we just had a "wet microburst"

Power flickered three times and then the internet server went out. Probably trying to reset.

Grew rapidly darker until it was literally as black as night.

Started hearing a random pop, pop, doink, dink, and then a fusillade of around one inch diameter hail poured down. I haven't been in a hail storm in years and this was amazingly -loud-.

Then it rained so hard, visibility was down to only 50 feet or so. The rain came off of the roof literally in waves.

That was so fast and so violent I'll bet it was either a microburst or a severe hail core. I didn't notice any wind damage, so we got lucky with that.

At least the power stayed on. I hate to see what the roof looks like.
