Several injured following suspected gas explosion at apartment in New York City #Bronx l #NY Specialized units have responded to reports of large explosions and a fire. At least seven are injured, including multiple police officers. This is a developing incident.

I guess gas companies should send out those scratch & sniff cards again so stupid people know the smell of leaking gas.

Ha! You think that would help? I worked a job wiring computer chips onto gas meters so they could call the reading in remotely... I walked into a basement and immediately smelled gas. I went a few feet further and found the meter... with half a dozen burned matches underneath it on the floor! As I was evacuating everyone before the police got there, I asked the woman why the matches...

She said.. "oh, I heard you should never turn on an electrical switch if you smell gas, and it's dark down there... so I lit matches to try to see!"

If that had been an SNL skit, people would pan it saying "no one is that dumb." But yes, people are that dumb.
