Middle-row-Joe will take care of Joe first.
This is no surprise.

My cynical side tells me this was fleshed out on his boat the day he got the booboo on his face. Same day several congress critters were exposed to the 'rona on his boat. Just a guess...

words and actions need to match. both the clearly visible, and the behind the scenes.

He's a leftover from the ol-timey southern Democrats before Reagan captured them, so he's been a fish out of water for a long time. It didn't matter when the Senate was divided less evenly; the focus when the 'Pubs ran the Senate was always trying to get Collins, Murkowski, Romney, Sasse et al to hold the line.

Now that the shoe is on the other foot, the attention which used to be on the reluctant 'Pubs is now on him and Sinema, and Schumer has been having a hard time getting them to toe the line. I think both he and Sinema are enjoying the stroke they have at the moment and don't want to waste it. It's good to see them fighting the tide.

Next election a bunch of 'Pubs will be missing such as Cornyn, Murkowski and Blunt. Hopefully we'll have enough sense and momentum to keep them out of Dominion range so their elections will be pretty much a done deal. As if there is such a thing ..... follow the money as always.

U.S. Senator Manchin acknowledges having weighed leaving Democratic Party

WASHINGTON, Oct 21 (Reuters) - U.S. Senator Joe Manchin, a centrist and a stumbling block to Democratic President Joe Biden's ambitious social agenda, acknowledged on Thursday having discussed leaving the party if his Democratic colleagues considered his stance "an embarrassment."
A day after dismissing as "bullshit U.S. Senator Manchin denies media report he could leave Democrats " a Mother Jones report that he was considering it, Manchin told reporters he had discussed the possibility of becoming an independent "if I'm an embarrassment to my Democrat colleagues, my caucus, the president being the leader of the Democratic Party."
"I said, me being a moderate centrist Democrat, if that causes you a problem, let me know and I'd switch to be an independent. But I'd still be caucusing with Democrats," Manchin said. "That's the only thing that was ever discussed. No one accepted that." He did not specify the colleagues by name.
Manchin spoke as Democrats struggled to reach agreement on a Biden social agenda that is likely to be reduced from $3.5 trillion to below $2 trillion, as a result of opposition from Democratic moderates including Manchin and Senator Kyrsten Sinema.
The Senate is split 50-50 between Democrats and Republicans, with Vice President Kamala Harris, a Democrat, casting the tie-breaking vote, giving Manchin and Sinema powerful sway over the direction of legislation.
As a senator from West Virginia, a conservative state that relies on coal and has largely backed Republican politicians in recent years, Manchin has been at odds with many of his fellow Democrats over key aspects of Biden's agenda, including its climate change provisions.
He narrowly won re-election in 2018 and next faces voters in 2024.
Mother Jones had reported on Wednesday that Manchin would first resign from his Democratic leadership post in the Senate and then register as an independent if Democrats did not scale back the spending bill further.

Looks like Biden’s next move is to have a few leftist activists follow Manchin into the bathroom...
