Romney: "It’s a real problem" that windows don't open on jet aircraft

Yep. This is going to be a STELLAR administration, I can tell already.

Mitt Romney pulls in $6 million at Beverly Hills fundraiser

...

Romney’s wife, Ann, was in attendance, and the candidate spoke of the concern he had for her when her plane had to make an emergency landing Friday en route to Santa Monica because of an electrical malfunction.

“I appreciate the fact that she is on the ground, safe and sound. And I don’t think she knows just how worried some of us were,” Romney said. “When you have a fire in an aircraft, there’s no place to go, exactly, there’s no — and you can’t find any oxygen from outside the aircraft to get in the aircraft, because the windows don’t open. I don’t know why they don’t do that. It’s a real problem. So it’s very dangerous. And she was choking and rubbing her eyes. Fortunately, there was enough oxygen for the pilot and copilot to make a safe landing in Denver. But she’s safe and sound.”

Before the eminence of our present administration, these sort of "off the cuff gaffes" used to be called "Bushisms." I suppose the new name will be "Romneyisms" or perhaps "Mittisms."

Expect to see more of this given a Republican win in November.

Gosh, one hopes.

Don't they fly around in a chartered small airliner? There should of been drop down O2 masks from the ceiling which deploy in the case of a loss of pressurization to the cabin or could be dropped manually by the flight crew.

I tried to find out exactly what kind of aircraft it was - the only mention in the news was that it was a chartered private jet.

One of the reasons I looked for several sources was to confirm it wasn't some kind of spoof... it sounded too Oniony to take seriously when I first heard the story.

Are you sure about that?
Wow. We've established that Romney is not an aerospace engineer.

(THIS is what will be criticized? This falls BELOW "potatoe" in terms of actual gaffe value...)

No double standard here, huh?

So he made a goofy comment.
Could be he's tired from his schedule and wasn't thinking.
Or maybe he really doesn't know.

Is he a marxist communist mofo?

Our current Prez IS.

Not much else matters, an enemy resides in our White House.

Romney as far as I know hasn't said he plans on making energy prices necessarily skyrocket, that people need to share their pie, that flyover country is filled with those clinging to their guns & religion and he'd side with muslims...

I knew I remembered reading in the original stories that it said what kind of plane she was on, but most of the online stories have been edited since then. Dug into the local stuff (Denver where she landed and Omaha where she took off) and found this:

The FAA says the chartered plane Mrs. Romney was on is a Canadair Regional Jet.

Airport spokeswoman Laura Coale said the plane, a Challenger 600, landed on runway 35L and was greeted by Denver fire and police officials.

Look I don't think that obama is any brighter than Willard but this is another clue that our leadership classes are nothing but ignoramuses.

Rich kids that got through school on daddies' money/influence and paying subs to take their tests.

I knew this guy (one just like him) daddy owned all the coal in Alabama the rest of our geology class killed themselves getting passing grades (very tough school) meanwhile richy rich sailed through on D's later A's and B's in the transcripts. Did not even show up for the tests. Last time I saw the creep was at graduation.

He was manufactured stupid.

Forgot the name probably a congressman or senator now.

These idiots are know nothings and they infest gubberment.

I hope so!

But coming from someone who would go on 60 Minutes yesterday and take blame his 47% comment himself personally in order to deflect blame from his campaign is just weird.

No! they should be able to open the windows!

What harm could a little fresh air do at 30,000 feet?

Biden-hands-370x278.jpg

"This is a serious issue! There may be factors involved beyond your control! For
example, what if a terrorist boards the plane and unleashes a big blast of farts?
Toxic flatulence in a tightly enclosed area could be lethal! I brought up this very
scenario to the attention of our great Commander-In-Chief with hopes of making
our airways safer, but he told me to shut up because I don't fly commercial. Yet
if I did, I'd want to make sure my flight has drop-down gas masks just in case!"

How stupid. He should realize that if the plane had windows, people might drown if it landed on the edge of Guam and caused it to tip over.

Yeah, was kind of thinking, that while the words are there, we dont know the tone of voice he was using when he said it. Was he joking?

Then again, there are plenty of things a big financial business owner might think is common knowledge and snicker at me for not knowing. So who am I to judge what he should or shouldn't know.

Even if he were, the mainstream media would take it as his gospel, and take him to task for his lack of mental acumen.

But were it Obama, it would be guffaws and slaps on the back hey buddy good joke!

Genius for a President. Wit. Sharpest pencil in the box. Brightest star on the rotunda Christmas Tree. Raconteur.

And stated again and again and again. Film at 11.

Film at 6:30 am. Good Morning America reprise. Mid-Day news. Jay Leno at 11:30 p.m. EST.

And then a book - My wit as President. Ghost Written by Bill Ayers.

Sheesh.

I wonder if the fire hazard of O2 is the reason it was not available for the people in the passenger cabin. Thats a spooky thought, O2 masks hanging from the ceiling pumping O2 into an enclosed room that has a fire burning in it. Anyway the Obama crowd will have fun with this

Either he was making a joke or he was a nervous husband. Or he could be ignorant on how an airplane works.

None of the three disqualify him from being the President.

(I still don't like him.)

the plane must not have had the emergency oxygen you get on commercial jets in the passenger area of the plane. And he was speaking quickly so it looked like he was lamenting the windows not opening when in fact he was saying it was a real problem that small planes don't make it mandatory to have that type of oxygen for the passengers. he's not an idiot. sheesh.
