BRUSSELS: The head of the European Union (EU)'s executive body, the European Commission, on Wednesday congratulated Barack Obama on his victory in the US presidential election and called on him to work with the EU to shape a "new deal for a new world".

"This is a time for a renewed commitment between Europe and the US. I want to assure Senator Obama of the support of the European Commission and of my personal support in forging this renewed commitment to face together the many challenges ahead of us," European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said.

"We need a new deal for a new world. I sincerely hope that with the leadership of President Obama, the US will join forces with Europe to drive this new deal - for the benefit of our societies, for the benefit of the world," he said in a statement.

Ahead of Tuesday's election, politicians across Europe had expressed the hope that the successor to US President George W Bush - whether Obama or his rival, John McCain - would abandon Bush's unilateral stance in favour of more cooperation with the EU.

They hope, in particular, for cooperation on financial reform, climate change and the reform of global institutions such as the United Nations and Group of Eight leading industrial nations.

That's if you believe in End Times/Tribulation/Rapture theology. I believe it is exclusive to a few Christian fundamentalist denominations only, such as pentecostal and Southern Baptist.

I am a Christian who believes in End Times/Tribulation/Rapture theology but I'm not a Pentecostal or a Southern Baptist.

So what denomination are you? If I can ask, that is. I apologize in advance if the question offends.

I do know it's not part of the Lutheran Church, Grace Baptist, Quaker, or Amish faiths, and I think the Catholic Church's official position is also anti-millenialist.

Holy Snikies! I was saying the very same thing when I was explaining why people would want someone like Obama. Because we would promise a new deal for a new world. In those words. Also it went with my point about a one world order. Because before we can switch to one, the world has to fall apart and rebuilt. And Obama is the man for the job.

I am a not denominational Christian. And you are right, if someone don't believe in that then to them it is silly. But anyone who believes in the Holy Bible would be contradicting themselves if they did not believe. Though the rapture itself is not in the bible, so my jury is out on that. Most likely we will have to suffer too just because it proves our resovle. But that one is a personal opinion.
