Pasta. Get elbow macaroni in 10 pound bags at Costco for around 10 dollars.

That's basically the average price that I've seen, which is still cheap if that's the best price you can find. I've already stocked up for a year with various pasta shapes, all at .49/pound. A few stores are playing smart by overstocking. While there's no room on the regular shelf places, it either fills in holes elsewhere, or it's the pallets and bins in the aisles.

With the bagged pasta, or other dry foods, having a few mouse traps might be wise.

But cats like tomato sauce!! At least all mine do. Cook up some Ramon and mix in some sauce? Chop up in small pieces. So stock up on Ramon and sauce for emergency cat food. Also can add in just a BIT of can cat food or tuna. Dollar Tree has cans of makerol fish cheap. Just mix it all up real good and chop small. I bet they would eat it.
I just remembered. Cats need more protein do may need more can meat. Try DT for the mackerel. Used to be a big can now is smaller.

Mary, it’s “ramen.”

“Ramon” is a man’s name.

As a sidebar issue, if you don’t learn how to use multi quote, I’m just going to start deleting your “chains” of replies. This is your only warning.

However, I’m referring more to other recent reply chains on other threads. One in particular, you had something like 8 in a row. That’s beyond ridiculous. I just want you to optimize your replies in various threads.
[/QUOTE] oh I see. Ok. Sorry.

Neither here nor there.
For pet food, a tip:

I have a local BBQ restaurant that sells their trimmings for $1/lb. You’re not going to get a deal like that anywhere. These are fresh trimmings from doing business during the day. It’s mostly fat but there’s a surprising amount of meat ends and pieces mixed in. They toss the “scraps boxes” twice a day unless the contents are sold. Ask around.

Are the trimmings bare, as in no spices or herbs?

Well, in post #607, at the very start of all text, you’re missing “[QU”

However, I’m referring more to other recent reply chains on other threads. One in particular, you had something like 8 in a row. That’s beyond ridiculous. I just want you to optimize your replies in various threads.

I put my pasta in half gallon jars with oxygen absorbers and close with new canning lid. No mouse problem.

not just eliminating mouse problems, the pasta will last almost forever.

A couple of years ago I got on a kick and bought a lot of different pastas, I've either vacuumed sealed in jars or put some in mylar with o2. We rarely eat pasta, so I'll never have to buy anymore.

God is good all the time

Ordered from Albertson's this morning. 17 items, 2 substitutions, still only carton of Florida's Natural OJ, and no Marie Calendars frozen meals. Not a good selection of pizzas either. All in all it looks like the frozen section is affected most around here. I ordered from them because they are the only place I can get real lunchmeat. Eck Olive Loaf from their deli. They also carry Primo Taglio horseradish chedda. Meat was so high DH was laughing as I read him the prices. 40 something for a rolled chuck roast.
Oh and chickens were looking sparse and very expensive too. A lot were saying " likely out of stock".

Buzzed into Hannafords (South central-northwest Vt) after driving a family member for a procedure.

First off, only one check out and the express lane/customer service counter. One of the self check looked to be out of order.

Was only getting some stuff I was sort of low on or wanted to have and couple items I wanted.
Zero black beans in cans, no brands, no low salt, no spicey flavor, no Bush's, no store brand, no fancy organic.

Really was hoping to score standard powdered Cascade dishwasher detergent. Not a chance. Plenty of pods though.

The standard price for any item seems to be $5.49. Ran a box of angel hair pasta through at $2.99 and thought I won the lottery.

Cream cheese area looked empty. Six pack plastic bottles Diet Pepsi $3.69, that's up from sub $3. Low on cream and creamers, from milk to flavored.

Have to say the place was pretty well full for a Monday, other than a few items. Meat and chicken were well stocked. Same with produce.

Pasta and cereals were sparse.

Some people looked to be doing some specific shopping. They just looked like they were out looking for things before they can't get them. Eyeing stuff wondering if they should get it.

The mask thing has really screwed up society.
Angel hair pasta (I assume 1 pound) for 2.99 a box? Was it hand made by Gabriel?

this is because this is how Aldi started out in the states, it was for poor people. Their original packaging was white labels with black text on them, telling you what was in the package.

And there are still some Aldi stores that have "odd lots" and quite frankly, crap. But for the most part, Aldi has been improving their products across the chain, at least in Central Iowa. I do a lot of my shopping between Aldi and Fareway. I can get what I need, at least of the basics, and not pay top-dollar for it.

I still have to go to HyVee for "gourmet" items and some cheeses, but that's a morale thing.

This past holiday season Aldi had a lot in the way of gourmet cheeses and salami's. The problem was beating the herd to the store to stock up on them. Still enjoying some smoked gouda I bought last month, it makes one heck of a grilled cheese sammie.

well
she doesn't care where I go shopping it's just that she won't set foot in an aldi
And I find that an :jstr: interesting opinion as she has never set foot in an ALDI

go figure huh:lkick:
My DH HATES Aldi with a passion, and he feels the same about Walmart. He doesn't care if I shop there, but he's not going in.

Not good.
I'm betting the items left in the last one are "veggie meat".

Local Walmart has practically no frozen potatoes; fries, tater tots etc.

Ok Dennis. I see. I keep messing up. Not gonna post for awhile now cuz making too many mistakes. I will just read.

@Mary Contrary I too have asked you more than once to consolidate posts and offered to help if you didn't understand how to edit posts or any of the other software aspects....with no response.

There is a point such that your refusal to even try is taken as direct defiance of what the staff tries to do in an effort to keep things kinda organized and uncluttered.

To be blunt, you have established your point of view on this as, "FU...I'll post however I want and if I can't, I won't post."

After playing this game a few times with you, not posting may be a better option.

Your choice.

Yes!!
My mil, (may she Rest In Peace)... shopped at the only aldi we had in town at the time ...this was many many years ago and was located in a pretty sketchy part of town, too...the products they had then were, well, not the most “top shelf” types of foods in town let me tell ya.

She’d bring me a bag of canned goods that I would put down the drain once I opened them up, they were so gross! Gray, mushy peas, green beans with things in there like sticks and little, hard, black balls (?)
:kk2:

But hey! “They were only a quarter so eat up, and be grateful you aren’t starving”

Um, noooo. No thank you!

I wasted 45 minutes doing a WM pickup order yesterday and the thing never went thru, which I didn't find out until this morning. Their website was majorly messed up.
I did manage to get some canned cat food today! :)
And a lot of the WM prices have now surpassed the local grocery store, which is really high priced...

Don't do that Mary. Please keep talking. Sorry if you got your feelings hurt. Some can't spell or get fat fingers, others like myself are computer illiterate, what difference does it make as long as you join in the fray. I don't remember a membership in Mensa being a requirement for joining TB.

Thread drift but what cracks me up about computers is all the times in 40 years of running a business I watched neighbors businesses grind to a halt because of computers crashing and mine kept chugging along with all my paperwork filed neatly away in a file cabinet.

I've shopped at Aldi for over 20 years and never have I found bad canned veggies or really anything else. Anything that I had a problem with was always replaced with minimal hassle. It is not unusual to find a bit of stem in green beans, a bit of cob in corn or a bit of pod in peas of any brand.

I generally do not buy groceries at Walmart, only sometimes at HyVee. I go to Aldi and then stop at Fareway for things Aldi doesn't carry or as of late are out of. Local store is generally well stocked in you don't mind paying a premium price which I do occasionally just to avoid a trip to town.

You have me all wrong!!! I don't remember seeing your posts. I'm not a mean vindictive person. And yes, my feelings are hurt. I won't post and see them deleted by Dennis like he said. Sometimes I see my mistake and I try to correct it and it makes it worse. I never did it in "defiance". I'm not that kind of person. You're right. I don't belong here. Will try Godlike Productions or whatever it is. I'm not posting anymore. I will just lurk and read and keep my stupidity to myself. Sorry for being a retarded ass. Goodbye all.

That is your call.

I did not say that you didn't belong here. Please do not put words in my mouth.

Was only giving my perception of things as they have evolved over time.

No, we don't want anybody to leave, but do ask that members attempt to go with posting guidelines and suggestions.

In fact, if the object was to have you gone...you would be.

If you have problems, any staff member will try to help you figure them out.
