Like Judy, I never need anything. If I can't save 40% I'm not even leavin' the house. With all the online bargain hunters and coupons combined with holiday sales I've done very well lately. Yes, I see high prices, I just don't participate with them. "Stack it to the ceiling" is my motto right now and I'm making progress without breaking the bank.

I ordered a case of Amy's tomato bisque soup low in sodium this morning on Amazon. Down to one can. I was surprised they had it. 28 bucks. I like to mix it with a can of Wolfgang Puck bisque.
Have 2- 2 lbs of white organic grits being delivered today also.
Used Vita Cost's 20 % off to splurge on some moisturizers, macaroons, chips and pepperocini.
The store adds seem to have some good buys. Unfortunately, I can't take advantage of them. I still think CA's prices are way higher than some of you are paying.
I love that tomato bisque soup. I've tried other cheaper brands and they are not nearly as tasty.

thinking back. over the last year, I cant think of anything that I couldnt find, I mean as in no where at all. I may have to go to a couple of stores, or order online, but I have been able to find everything I need,

and that includes gun parts and special tooling for my lathes and milling machine, have even found some deals on things. but I already have almost anything I would need, and kids are grown and on there own. so im just buyin for me,

Same here. Everything but Jimmy Dean Sausage biscuits. I probably could find them if I was able to go in person to different stores. I'm going to make my own after I figure out how to make a larger flatter biscuit. Mine get too tall.

Yep..there's a difference between "needs" and "wants". Also, a big advantage in being adaptable.

OMG! I had to order a big order of kitty litter on Chewy so ordered 8 cases of Fancy Feast for my finicky eaters also.
They raised the price to 24 bucks a case of 24. I was paying 19 something, then they raised it to 21 something and now this. Whew! 8 cases came to 192. Yes Virginia, nothing to see here, move along, no hyperinflation in our country.
Thankfully the other 4 like the cheaper Friskies.

Having not been to the grocery since early November, and having double hand surgery 10 days ago, I placed a sizable delivery order from Kroger's on Friday.

Every item on my list was available and delivered including canned cat food and cream cheese. This was a welcome surprise since our store will be torn down in a few weeks.

Haven't been to the grocery store for two weeks. Still don't need to go unless I want milk and broccoli.
The instant/powdered milk thread got me wanting some chocolate breakfast drink for some reason.
Figured I'd place a small instacart order seeing as I've got free membership until springtime. Put the breakfast drink, milk, veggies, several other items that would take me for a couple weeks longer.
Ended up not placing the order.
Prices were noticeably higher than my last order. And I'm not just talking the small instacart markup on some items. All the items were significantly more expensive than in store. Of the 10 items I'd guess it was $14-$16 more expensive than in store. $6+ was gratuity. And I could justify paying a little extra for convenience, but this just felt over priced.
Guess I'm just cheap and/or poor!

Finally hit the grocery store. The only issues were the store brand whole milk gallons were zero'd and had to pay an extra buck for Hood. Also no disposable/paper cups of any sort. Only a few packs of clear party cups.

No you are not. Instacart is a lot higher than in store. I noticed the other day that Walmart on my list of stores says " In store prices". They are the only store that says that. Trouble with them though is they are usually out of more items.

We got a Aldi delivery yesterday 45 items ordered, received all but one thing and it was a package of chips. Walmart pickup order today for $158.00 also 45 items, no shorts. Lettuce $1.78 per head,
Sara Lee Honey Wheat Bread $2.78, Great Value Fat free milk $3.69/gal, and Tostitos Cheese Con Queso $4.48/15oz jar. Last weeks Walmart pickup order was for 76 items with only 3 shorted. North central Oklahoma.
Also this week went to a local small packing/meat market in a near by town and bought 91/9 ground beef vacuum packed and frozen bag for $5.41/pound, fresh ground bulk packed 91/9 ground beef for $4.91/pound and we got out monthly sirloin 1 1/2 inch cut for 7.25/pound. The sirloin was extra nice and trimmed with little fat. The ground beef has been the same price for almost a year.

You are getting good buys on meat. They are charging more here in CA.

Neither here nor there.
Went to local Drug Mart today to pick up a head of lettuce. Monday it was .99 today 1.78.

It's that time of the year, remember back in the day you only got fresh lettuce during the holidays and then after that no lettuce again until spring, unless you grew it yourself. $1.99 here at my local Fareway, not sure what it is at Aldi, will find out later when I venture over there for some groceries.

Finally, having lived tbrough the 1975 to 80's stagflation, just out of the US Army and going to school, one psych trait was to "buy large." Like I bought 5 martenelli apple juice 50oz glass bottles. Back then you did things like that cuz it would cost more down the road. They were $6 each by the way. I have been buying farmer's market fresh pressed apple cider at $7 a half gallon every Saturday.
That ends on the last Saturday.
Hyper inflation is coming. I can feel it.
Stock up since prices will skyrocket in January.

Went to Aldi today...Piedmont, NC. Surprisingly, most things seemed well stocked. In fact, a few of the missing items were now back. Lunch meat was still missing, as was cream. However, butter was $1.65/pound and the animal crackers my dog likes were back, too. He was happy. He gets 3 after each meal...and he can count. He's a Border Collie and they're not lying when they say this breed is smart. (But, I digress.) Lettuce was $1.69/head and cukes were $0.69 each. Bananas were $0.40/pound. Plenty of oranges and apples. Lemons and tomatoes are still high but it's not the season, so it makes sense. Bacon was still $3.49/pound. Meat looked slim but I didn't look too closely as I didn't need any. The rib eye steaks called my name as I walked by but I told them that my loan to buy them hadn't gone through yet...still $15.99/pound.

Shoppers did not seem in a panic and few carts were overflowing. There were also very few masks. It was kinda' nice to see some faces! I even spoke to a woman who wanted tomato juice and didn't know where it was and I could direct her. I felt good. :-) Smiles all around.

Neither here nor there.
Just got back from Fareway, central Iowa, and bought a ten pound tube of ground beef 80% for $2.99 a pound. Got a really good price on pears, organic bananas, red bell peppers, broccoli, cauliflower and FINALLY the price of brussels sprouts came down $1.99 a pound. Three pound bag of carrots $1.47 so picked up one. And they had egg nog still, so I bought a quart. No glaring holes, lots of frozen prepared foods, pizzas, etc. And I bought us a treat, their monster cookies are so good.

I did forget to buy leeks though.

I was at BJ’s yesterday and wanted to get oxtail along with a few other things. The oxtail, which I did not get, was $10.99/lb!

Oxtails on sale, here, are $10.99/lb, usually about $14.99/lb. Foodies sometimes ruin things for the rest of us. 20 years ago, they were .99/lb, and the stores still couldn't get rid of them. Oxtail soup rules.

Apple cider was $5.49 a gallon for several years. This year it's $7.49 a gallon.

Amazon still had some cases of Campbell's soup priced good so bought a couple of those. Also the price of paper towells is through the roof but as long as they are available I will buy them. Don't want to go back to using rags until I have to.
Did a medium size order at Vons via Instacart and they had most everything. Several brand subs but that is all. I sure do miss the different lunchmeats like olive loaf though. Who would have believed you couldn't get lunchmeat anymore?

Chewy was out of Friskies Shreds Chicken this weekend so placed an order at Pets Warehouse. Anyway they sent an email this morning saying it was backorder.
I went back to Chewy and it is back in stock with another price increase. 15.50 now. Still out of stock on Fancy Feast.
I cancelled the other order but for crying out loud.
Oh before I forget Zero Hedge had an interesting piece on the supply chain. Did any of you see it? About all the things that go into making a loaf of bread and getting it delivered. Insanity at its best. Everything from growing wheat to plastic bag ad infinitum.

If you need it, you better have it on hand in quantities to last for a very long time. We've got everything for making bread--all different kinds--for years, including the bags.

I raised all the cats I had on cheap cat food, so they would eat anything. They lived long and healthy lives and died of old age. They very rarely had a vet visit. Same with my dogs.

I wanted to make Bourbon balls to gift to my hairdresser/longtime friend, but apparently there is a nationwide shortage of Nilla Wafers. Even the generic kind. Walmart says they have them so I’m hoping they’re still there after I drop my son off at work. Otherwise, I’ll have to either improvise or make something else. Not the end of the world, just an inconvenience.

Homemade Nilla Wafers
Homemade Nilla Wafers
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/3 cups flour
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt

Cream butter and sugar together. Beat in egg and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients separately (and yes, that is baking powder and not baking soda), and then add to creamed ingredients and mix well. If you want true Nilla Wafer size cookies, roll about a teaspoon (like measuring spoon teaspoon size) of dough into a ball and flatten it with your fingers. The cookies will spread quite a bit, so place them about two inches apart on the cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes. Cool on cookie sheet for 5 minutes and then transfer to a cooling rack.

(Cookie evaluation: These are kinda plain little cookies--no chips, no nuts, no spices or frosting. But apparently they were sufficiently tasty. At any rate, they're way better than I remember those Nilla Wafer-hockey pucks tasting. I forgot to set any aside for garnishing the top of the pie. Oops.)

Just yesterday talked to my ranching buddy that we get our beef and pork from. Prices for hay jumped from $9/bale to $16/bale in one year....if you can find it. Starter calves prices jumped to $600 and feeder pigs jumped from $40 last year to $200. I image feed prices are headed up as well.

For folks are probably not aware of that 400,000 acre fire in Kansas recently. A lot of ranches and livestock got wiped out, so I'd expect beef prices will go through the roof as a result.

If you live anywhere that still has small holdings, family farms and community supported agriculture better get busy and support them. They may be your only reliable source here pretty soon. I'm already got my order in for beef and pork and have added chickens, duck and quail as well.

BTW.....are Peacocks any good,
other than to look at? My ranching buddy just expanded his property and the previous owner left behind a SHITTE-TON of peacocks that are making a mess of everything and somehow seem to avoid the coyotes. He'd like to get rid of them as they are a pain.....are they any good grilled?

California Pig Law Requiring More Space Prompts Meatpacker to Halt Pork Sales
By
Michael Hirtzer

A top meatpacker is halting sales of some pork products in California, in the first sign of fallout from the state’s new law demanding more space on farms for the animals.

Seaboard Foods, the second-largest U.S. pig producer and fourth-biggest pork processor, confirmed the decision Friday in an emailed statement, blaming the state’s Proposition 12 rule that goes into effect on Jan. 1.

California voters approved the regulation, which advocates say will provide more humane conditions by allowing farm-raised pigs enough room to turn around. The move is a reaction to the widespread use of cages known as gestation crates that constrict the animals’ movement.

Hog producers and pork producers have largely opposed the rule, arguing that costly renovations to farms will raise meat prices, at a time when they were already soaring and contributing to the highest food inflation in years.

Best security system you can have. Most of them are mean, and hate, and will attack men.
One of my friends got ALL of her delivery service cut off because of hers. The 2nd time she beat her male off the UPS man with the broom, they told her she would have to have her stuff delivered elsewhere.
I have no idea what they'd taste like...

Thank you! I’m still hoping to find a box because I put in a lot of hours at work over the weekend and still have some prep to do for Christmas. I chose this recipe because it’s really easy. But I bet they’d be really good with homemade cookies! I’ll save the recipe for the next time I decide to make them.

The move is a reaction to the widespread use of cages known as gestation crates that constrict the animals’ movement.

Having actually worked on a Hog Farrowing Farm in the early 80's where we had 5,000 sows producing feeder pigs to a COOP of finishing farms....THE ONLY REASON we used Farrowing Crates (farrowing = birthing) was to keep the sows from smashing half their litters into pancakes. Some breeds of hog are better mothers than other and some are dumb as a rock.

All our sows gestated out in large pens on concrete (for sanitation) and had plenty of room to roam around with their "sisters". We even gave them bowling balls to play with. Ever seen hog soccer? They were brought into the Farrowing houses, washed from top to bottom and put into clean sanitized Farrowing Crates about a week before they gave birth and remained in there until the piglets were weened. The "birthing crates served two purposes: they kept bad mothers from smashing their babies and other sows from eating them! Once the piglets were weened, the sows then went back into their large outdoor pens and the piglets were housed indoors in runs in groups of about 20-30 piglets with plenty of room to run about, play and eat. The indoor units were heated and air-conditioned depending on the time of the year....in Colorado.

We did not put any of our hogs on dirt for sanitation reasons. There are several very nasty hog diseases that once in the soil can take decades and decades to finally die out and be safe to put pigs back on.

I don't know how other operators run their operations elsewhere, but ours was humane, gentle and clean. If you didn't work on the farm you didn't come onto the farm.....PERIOD! Even workers had to park vehicles away from any animals housings and runs, pass through a clean room, replace any "city" clothing and shoes/boots with shop coveralls and farm boots to avoid bringing animal diseases from other farms and anywhere else onto the property.

That farm would pass any of these new regulations they are trying to put out today with flying colors. Yes there are probably enough unscrupulous farmers to make this an issue, but I think the biggest reason is all the Nazi Vegans and such that just want to stop any meat production at all.

The people I buy my locally produced meat from raise all their animals with care and respect or I wouldn't deal with them. It can be done and it's not really that difficult.
